I traveled here with my boyfriend in May '14. We chose to stay outside of San Fran to save some money, but were ultimately going into San Fran for site seeing, etc. Hesitant about the location of this hotel at first, but after being there, it was an excellent decision! We were able to save some money but not staying in San Fran and the BART station was literally right across the street from the hotel doors. BART ride no more than 10-15 minutes and was still able to take trains back later in the night. Downfall is that we were told the BART does not run to this location much later than midnight. Hotel stay was great--staff was extremely nice and room was great. No complaints other than potentially cutting your night short due to timing of BART stops.

Great Hotel, clean and perfect location. Very good breakfast. Bar service was very good and the drinks were great.

It was a very quick and smooth check in and check out. The doormen were very attentive and hailed a cab very quickly and had lots of great advice for us with good information.

Having moved out of Oakland one year ago, my husband & I often find ourselves @ The Marriot when re-visiting the city that we love. Having driven past this hotel year over year not knowing what it had to offer, we were pleasantly surprised to find that it's actually pretty good for Downtown Oakland.

+ Rooms are large and clean.
+ Excellent view of SF and the bay bridge (or Oakland!).
+ Walking distance to great bars (Van Kleef, The Trapist, Radio).
+ Walking distance to BART.
+ Cheap alternative in lieu of staying in SF.

- Parking is very expensive. $25/day for hotel guests.
- Area/crowd isn't generally the best at night (unless you're used to Oakland).

I stayed here for business for 8 weeks. The hotel staff was fantastic and addressed any issue I had immediately. The night manager, Hakeem (I believe) was extremely helpful and was able to help me in securing rooms when it looked like the hotel was sold out. The bell staff were very friendly and always greeted me with a Hello and a smile. Last, but not least, there is the staff in the restaurant. The hostess were very nice and were always friendly and social when I dined there. But most of all there was James. James is one of the best waiters I have ever had. He will always cater to your requests and offers constant suggestions about the menu.

As far as the rooms go, I stayed on various floors and had both the Bay view and the city view. If checking in, request the odd # rooms if you want a Bay view. My only issue was a room next to the service elevator. It was quite annoying the first night, but I got used to the noise.

Lastly, if you need the BART train, you could not ask to be any closer.

Room Tip: Odd side for Bay view rooms.

The Northern California Handweavers' conference was held here. Nice to be in my old home town. I really felt like the city had cleaned up downtown and it felt very comfortable walking along Broadway in an area that was pretty run down a few years ago. The beds in this hotel were the best I've experienced in a long time…I hated to come home to my super firm mattress. The room was fairly simple included a refrigerator which was nice to store "doggie bags" that could serve for lunch the next day. The bar had a generous Happy Hour period which was nice.

Room Tip: We had a beautiful Bay view and could see the bay bridge and golden gate…ask for odd numbered room t...

We are delighted you chose to stay with us here at the Oakland Marriott while attending the Handweavers’ conference. Downtown Oakland is thriving for sure; there are so many things to see and do, and all within walking distance of the hotel. It’s great to hear you enjoyed our beds. I understand how important a good night’s sleep can be. Regarding the green features, being a green hotel is definitely a high priority. Water and energy conservation is consistently practiced throughout the hotel, including the option to reuse towels in our guest rooms. We hope to see you again for the next Handweavers’ conference, or maybe sooner for a summer vacation!

First visit to Oakland for business. Stayed in Room 1506 during week of April 13th. Good location near Federal Building. Pleasant staff. Richard at front desk was exceptional. All staff frequently smiled and offered greetings. Room was oddly shaped, but clean and comfortable. Maid service was good. Concierge Lounge staff were very friendly also. Enjoyed the late night snacks, and hot breakfast with rolls and melon was excellent. Parking was heavy at $36 day, but otherwise, good value. Ate in bar one night and had Shrimp Fettuccini. Also pretty good. Fax(sp?) restaurant across street was very good. Excellent Hummus, and happy hour prices were excellent. Had a beef kabob, and three drafts for $15. Would definitely stay here again.
