Owner description: Turnbull produces exceptional quality Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, dirt to bottle, from our 100% estate grown vineyards in Oakville and the Napa Valley. We are known for our small production bottlings, most only available exclusively at the winery. We are a hidden gem, an authentic and approachable winery experience where you can taste our honest and true wines at their source. We offer private tastings by prior appointment, and gallery tastings open to the public seven days a week. We believe in the opportunity to pause, explore, and discover something new every day, and for us, wine should be no exception. Other highlights: Pairing Garden - Planted with edible produce and flowers that offer perfect pairings with our wines, this is also a great spot to relax with friends in front of the fire and taste wines. Photography Gallery - Turnbull has one of the largest private black and white photography collections, and twice yearly we curate a show in our Gallery Tasting Room, featuring a plethora of famous artists, including such notables as Berenice Abbott, Ansel Adams, Jock Sturges, Dorothea Lange, Herb Ritts and more. History Established in 1979 at the original estate site where the winery is today, Turnbull has been rooted in the culture and history of the Napa Valley for more than 35 years. We are a small, family-owned, multi-generation business building on a legacy.

“Hospitality + Great Wine”

We've been fans of Turnbull reds for almost fifteen years, but this was our first visit to the tasting room. With a full month to taste our way through the best wineries in Northern California, we had time but still limited ourselves to ones we'd either not visited or hadn't for many years. Turnbull is one of the best. Very knowldgable staff pour excellent wines. Buy some and lay them down for a while; you'll be glad you did!

“Okay experience, nice grounds.”

We took a short family trip to the Valley for wine tasting and Turnbull was our first stop. We received lukewarm welcome from the gentleman which set the tone for the visit. The $20 tasting included 4 pours-2 whites, 2 reds. The Sauvignon Blanc was my favorite, not citrusy, very smooth. I cannot remember the others, not to say they weren't enjoyable. The gentleman didn't give any descriptions of the wines or winery. I may return in the hopes of experiencing a different host and learning more. Be sure to check out the photos around the tasting room.

“Great wine, a pleasant surprise!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 December 2013

My wife and I along with a few friends had planned a day long trip to wine country while we were in California for a wedding. Unfortunately, plans had to change at the last minute and we didn't have time to visit some of the places we'd planned. Turnbull Winery was right next door to one of the places that we did make sure to visit so we decided to give it a try (one of our party is a part time photographer and the art gallery part caught her eye). The gallery was closed while they were changing it up but we were able to walk in for a tasting without a reservation which was very nice. The few employees that were there (it's quite small!) were extremely friendly and informative. We ended up talking about all sorts of things other than wine (which is what drinking good wine is about!) and had a fabulous time. There is a fee to do the tasting but our experience was, it is waived if you buy wine. I really can't wait to go back!

“Best wine! A must!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 November 2013

We stopped in to view the 'Masters of Photography' and try a wine or two. The gallery was shut and we nearly left- I'm so glad we didn't. Fortunately we went for a nosy and entered the tasting room, where we met Rob. He proceeded to educate us on wine, and opened up the gallery to allow us to have a look at the fabulous photographs on display. I could easily have stayed here all day, and unlike a few other vineyards, I think we would have been allowed/welcome to! The wine was fabulous. Easily the best wine we had on our visit. If I'm honest I kind of regretted spending so much time in some of the other places as they didn't have the atmosphere of Turnbulls, nor the standard of wine (however that's just my opinion!) or the extensive photography exhibition. Please visit, relax with the wines and take your time appreciating the pictures. You will be welcomed into the winery and sad to leave it behind.

“Beautiful and so much fun!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 October 2013

We stopped here on our way home from another winery (or two) as a quick last stop. It turned out to be a great choice! We tasted some wines and found the staff to be extremely friendly and accommodating. We even got a private tour of the winery, for no real apparent reason other than they just seemed to want to please. Ended up spending 1.5 hours here even though it was meant to be a quick stop.

Basically, we felt comfortable here. Its a small shop, nothing too glamorous, but nonetheless is beautiful and produces some great wines without being pushy or snooty about their membership or clientele. It was a relaxing environment, laid back and had knowledgeable staff.

We ended up joining the wine club and just got our first shipment. We will be back next time we visit Napa.
