Owner description: Miner Family Vineyards is a dynamic family owned winery tucked into the eastern hills of the Oakville appellation, squarely within the heart of Napa Valley. Founded in 1998 by Dave & Emily Miner along with his folks Ed & Norma, Miner is defined first and foremost by a sensational portfolio of wines, wines consistently characterized by and committed to individualistic style and uncommon quality. In only a few short years, Miner has identified, sought and secured a number of California's finest vineyard sites to produce and showcase a wide array of varietals. Each wine is crafted in a style to encapsulate the distinctive elements and the indelible fingerprints of their respective vineyards. This combination of excellent vineyard sites along with passionate and thoughtful winemaking injects the necessary components for creating profoundly joyful wines.

We visited the estate on January 2nd and it was a highlight of the entire trip. We took 2 selection of 5 wines each and even had a tour of the facilities. The service from Mike was the best.

If you plan a wine tour in Napa be sure to include Miner on the list.

If you are a first timer to Napa Valley make sure you stop by Miner Winery. They are perfectly located in Oakville which is in the middle of the valley and offer some outstanding wines. James Peterson and staff will ensure you not only taste some outstanding wines but also show you great hospitality. Schedule a cave tour and sit out on the patio overlooking the valley in the afternoon, truly a perfect way to spend part of your day.

We visited Nov 24th, 2013. I had never heard of Miner but was pleasantly surprised. We did the tasting which did not disappoint. Each person could chose 5 tastes ($25) from the long list of wines available. It even included their higher end wines. The servers were very knowledgeable and made it very enjoyable. They knew their wines inside and out. They helped everyone find a fav.

Great balcony to enjoy the view of Oakville.

Made several purchases to take home enough to get our tasting credited.

We stopped at the Miner Family Winery near Oakville, California on a early Saturday afternoon during our family outing to the Napa Valley. Four tastings for $100 ($25 each) was very reasonable (especially when Dad's paying, which would be me). It's a good thing we got there early as it became very busy. We tasted some great wines. My favorites were a 2012 Rosato (Mendocino) and the 2011 Pinot Noir (Gary's Vineyard). I also enjoyed a 2009 The Oracle (Napa Valley). Great view on a gorgeous day!

My wife and I visited Minor in October of 2013 hoping for a cave tour. I had toured their wine cave some 20 years earlier with very fond memories and wanted the same experience for my wife. We were not disappointed. Without a reservation, and on what looked like a very busy day for them, JP was gracious enough to take us on a private tour and barrel tasting. It was fabulous. I haven't been in very many wine caves, but this one is incredible. If we didn't live four hours away we would probably be club members so that we could take part in the events they hold inside the cave. I definitely recommend making reservations as a barrel tasting in this wine cave is not to be missed.

Tasting is 25 dollars each person (five pours?) and with a $75 minimum purchase, the tasting is comped. Parking is ample and the view is superb from the tasting area. Staff were awesome.

The wines are a bit on the spendy side (for us). One bottle of The Oracle is $90. And, they do not grow grapes here. This bears repeating: Miner has no vineyard except for a couple of dozen plants next to the parking lot. So, if your thing is the vineyard, keep driving. This place is all about the wine cave and the incredible view from the tasting area.

Five stars minus one for no vineyard.
