“Hang with the locals”
Reviewed 6 April 2014 via mobile

This is a neighborhood bar. And, I prefer to hang with the locals vs the tourists...but I don't like to feel like an intruder. The bartender was friendly enough. I tried the hard cider, which was good. The wine on tap was a good price for the half carafe but not very tasty. The French onion soup was too peppery and none of us cared for it. The pretzel and biscuits were good. Suitable for a beverage after ziplining or if its your neighborhood bar but not a draw if you're coming from a distance.

“Wonderful beer and vittles”
Reviewed 28 February 2014

Barley and Hops Tavern is located in the hamlet of Occidental on the Bohemian Highway in Sonoma County, CA, about 15 miles west of Santa Rosa. It is a converted old two-story Victorian house with a bar and small dining room, rustic in character and a bit cramped, though not uncomfortable. It is open daily for dinner and for lunch Thursday-Sunday. The menu features burgers and sandwiches, soups, salads, and various entrees including some vegan choices, and the place is known for its fish and chips, garlic fries, and homemade mac and cheese. Portions are very generous and prices quite reasonable. There is a great, changing selection of draft and bottled beer, domestic and foreign. Our delightful waitress patiently guided us through the many varieties and her suggestions were perfect.

Free parking is available in a lot in front of the building. You need to climb a short flight of stairs to reach the restaurant; no disabled access is available.

“Great food and beers”

Can't fault this place. Great range of craft beers and food. Staff really friendly and enthusiastic with good food and beverage knowledge. We only went for a beer but ended up eating as the atmosphere and menu were great. Good value too.
