“Not too impressed, maybe wrong season”

Visited this park with my husband for an outing with the dog. Maybe we were just there in the wrong season, but everything seemed dead except the cat tails surrounding the lake. We walked from Guajome Lake Rd through what seemed like a gravel pit with unmarked trails and finally found the camp ground. We were a but confused by the buildings on the property, still not sure what they are. We made our way though the camp ground, which looked a little desolate to the lake. We were a bit bummed there was no real easy access to the lake though we did see some kids fishing. The wedding arch atop the hill would be real pretty if the grass was not dead. After we passed the lake we came to the underpass. It was dirty, littered and sketchy. Not sure we will be coming back here. So much for a nice afternoon stroll in nature.

It is better in the winter and spring. Gets a bit hot and dry in the summer and there is not much shade. There is not a lot a view to the pond because the reeds block it. The camp site is ok, a few nice spots. It is small and is quite full year round so book ahead.
There are nicer campgrounds in the local mountains but this one is convenient. Particularly if you are a poor planner and need to run to the store.

This is a beautiful place to camp because it's secluded amongst trees 2 lakes. You would never know you are still in a populated area. We enjoy it for it's close proximity to our home. There is electricity and water but lacking sewage to the sites.

It's fun riding dirt bikes on these trails but there's gross stuff on the trails so I can't recommend it for a romantic walk although it's fine for a hike with the wife. Not a lot of photo ops and, as with any place with standing water, there will be mosquitoes in summer but they're not bad if you keep moving.

This park is an oasis in an area that is becoming more and more crowded. It's a beautiful little park where you can walk under lots of trees and see many different kinds of birds. There is camping here, too. Has a few trails to get a good walking workout.
