“Awesome - location, location, location”
Reviewed 16 March 2012

I've stayed here on a few occassions at the Blue Whale Resort(resort is misnomer, about 12 units here). This time I stayed in a 1br/1ba unit #6. As I stated in heading, the location is awesome, as others have said, you step out your door, walk about 100 ft or less and you will be in the beach sand in Oceanside, a little walk to the Pier. You can hear the oceanwaves, just awesome location.

The room is appointed nicely, very simple, flat screen tv in living room(but no tv in bedroom), small dining room table, full kitchen with all untensils, pots, oven pots,forks,knives,salt/pepper, cookie sheet, tea kettle and more, everything you need to cook with or bake with...There is a sofa sleeper and even a pull out bed in the closet. Plenty of space to put your belongings in the bedroom, mirrored closets with plenty of closet space and plenty of drawers from the dresser and the built in drawers next to the closet..

The resort also has gas bbq grills, beach toys, a ousdie lounge area for relaxation. Saturday and Sundays morning continental breakfast. Free high speed wi-fi, you can rent movies at the office. Housekeeping stopped by to knock on the door nearly everyday to ask if we needed anything which was nice.. the front desk and staff were very nice and helpful. Plenty of literature in the room to help guide you around Oceanside, Carlsbad, San Diego area.

You can't do much better than this location being right next to the beach and not alot of people in this section of the beach. The Blue Whale resort is perfect for a getaway anytime of year... I'll be going back again as usual...

The cons: the bed was very, very firm, couldn't sleep on it, slept on sofa sleeper..
No washer/dryer in unit or at complex..
Bedroom wall is very thin, could hear people in unit next door if they were talking in the room.

A real find 50 feet from the beach. This historic converted small motel (think racedriver Barney Oldfield) has been renovated and made into a charming quiet seaside getaway. Only 12 units but nicely decorated and well maintained. A short walk to the pier and Ruby's Restaurant. Only two units on second floor but all have a sort-of view of surf/sand. The one bedroom unit is quite large and comfortable, with a full kitchen and nice bathroom/shower. The only negative for me were the thin walls allowing neighbor noise, and the harder beds (king.) Great walks along The Strand. Can hear the surf at night. Staff very friendly and helpful. Free videos.

Room Tip: Two front units front the beach for full views of ocean/beach.

I looked and looked for a reasonably price place right on the beach. I didn't want four star luxury, I just wanted a clean quiet comfortable place on the beach. The Blue Whale was great. Marcia was gracious on the phone and in person. Our studio with a Murphy bed was plenty spacious for the two of us. The kitchenette was perfect for our limited meal prep. The free movies were a bonus that we appreciated. The only thing I could suggest would be an upgraded mattress on the Murphy bed. It was a little firmer than I'd prefer. But, overall it was a great stay.

We spent a weekend here with family. This is a little jewel. They take really great care of this place. Everything is spotless clean. Good size rooms with everything you need. Beach is just across a small one way street.

I searched online for a long time to find just the right little spot to take a three-night trip with my high school senior. I knew we wouldn't spend much time in the room because we would be visiting area colleges, so the amenities weren't as important to me.

That said, it was pleasant to find that they had a lending library of movies and books had we planned to stay in at all. The accomodations were comfortable and very clean. We enjoyed having the full kitchen and took advantage of it by buying breakfast things to eat in. We walked to the pier for dinner one night (yummy), and it was a real treat to have the ocean just steps away from our room.

I would definitely come back here with our whole family and know we would enjoy ourselves in this low-key, pleasant place to stay.

I would love to go back and stay a week at this place. Adjacent to the beach - beautiful rooms - perfect parking - couldn't ask for anything more!

I found this condo in our timeshares. We took our 2 girls and 18 month old grandson. The 2 bedroom condo was HUGE. We had plenty of room for all of us it was newly remodled, clean and the location was the best. We could see the dolfins and surfers from our balcony or the windows that lined the front. We also saw a 1 bedroom and it was nice too. The only thing that would have been nice was to have a pool. They don't have room for it, but that would be the only thing I would have changed, because the water is so cold there. We all wanted to stay forever it was so nice, there needs to be more pics online.
