“It feels like home.”

Just got back from Ojai. We had a wonderful experience! Staff, guests and interns were all very friendly. The grounds are magical and the aroma of the citrus trees combined with the peppercorn trees is indescribable. This is a place you come to think, and meditate on life. It's not a five star resort, so don't expect to be served or pampered by the staff. You're on your own here. Just sit back and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of this humble home.

This was my second trip to Pepper Tree Retreat. A new herb and flower garden had been planted and a new gazebo built. All improvements to the property. The staff is still friendly and helpful and the breakfasts are amazing. Really enjoy the beauty and quietude of the place. A place to renew the spirit. As Krishnamurti once said, one needs a retreat now and then. A place to get away from everyday life so that one can look at one's life with fresh eyes.

Room Tip: All the rooms have their pros and cons.

My wife and stayed here for a weekend. You get to pick the ripe oranges, site in the herbal garden watching the sun rise and set. On the weekends they serve a full breakfast. The place is very quiet. The location is away from downtown, but easy to get around in Ojai. We hike a trail that allowed us to view the valley. If you are looking for some "real" quiet time this would be a nice place to stay.

The quiet, tranquill ambience of Pepper Tree matches its lovely setting in the Ojai Valley. Pick your own orange from the orange grove outside the door. Visit Meditation Mount for a spectacular view of the valley..

Room Tip: We stayed in the Huxely Room off the lobby, which is supposedly not as quiet as gthe other rooms. I...

We went to Pepper Tree because of the connections to Krishnamurti and Aldous Huxley. Michael Krohnen (author of "The Kitchen Chronicles", about his days as cook for Krishnamurti)) in the bookstore is great fun to talk to. The place is quiet (quiet hours, no amplified sounds; also no meat or alcohol or tobacco). Short drive to the town of Ojai (nice restaurants and shops). Beautiful grounds and surrounding valley (see Meditation Mount). Yes the breakfast is very good. Very responsive staff.

Room Tip: The names on the rooms (Huxley, Lennon, Bohm) don't necessarily correspond to what famous people...

Quiet space to relax, reflect and refresh. Hiking trails and orange groves in a valley setting provide a serene space. Healthy breakfast food and friendly, courteous staff set the right tone. Pepper Tree is highly recommended.

Room Tip: Instead of traveling into town to eat with longer stays, reserve a room with a kitchen to cook meals...

We were up in Ojai for a wedding. We didn't want to spend tooo much on the weekend. We couldn't have been happier at the Pepper Tree Retreat. It was beautiful, quiet & filled with orange trees. What else do you need.
