The Capri is a good choice among the over-expensive hotels in Ojai. The mid-century lobby is awesome--dark wood, original stone, white furniture & big windows. The pool is a big rectangle with a separate kids pool. The lobby & pool areas are surrounded by palm trees and bamboo, giving it a serene, secluded feel. The rooms also feel soothing, with bright green walls, white lacquer furniture & white sliding shutters out to the balcony or patio. The bathrooms have spacious showers, marble tile floors & dark gray walls. The water pressure is good & the shower head has a nice wide spray. The beds are firm & the white chaise lounge in the room is super comfortable! The second floor balconies have great views of the mountains and eye level swaying palm fronds. The lower level patios are large and fenced, with doors that open onto a large lawn and the pool. The footprint of the rooms is the same; we based our choice on view and noise. Plus, if you use the first floor patio, be aware that people on the second floor balcony are spectators to whatever you are doing or saying on your patio!
Overall, we really liked the Capri and would go back, but only if we found another great deal --
the regular rate is a little steep, considering some key points: the furniture is beat up. There were big cracks in the headboard & chips all over the desk edges. The walls in the bathroom had been touched up in paint that did not match the original. There were
screws sticking out of the wall, a soapdish holder in the shower but no soapdish, a liquids dispenser in the shower with the dispenser holder still attached to the wall but obviously no longer in use. There is no screen door on the patio slider; the patio floor needs a wash and a paint. These details keep this hotel at a 3 1/2 star instead of a 4 1/2
star. It would take just a little spiffing to give the Capri the 4 1/2 stars that it could consistently receive. The elements are all here: the staff
were all really friendly and helpful--they put out good coffee, snacks and fruit in the lobby in the morning and have a dvd library for use in the rooms. There is also a fridge & microwave in the room. We liked the friendly & nonpretentious vibe of the Capri & would stay
again if we went back to Ojai.
