“Close to downtown, but noisy because of the traffic...”
Reviewed 3 September 2014

Nobody was at the front desk when I tried to check in and I literally had to chase a worker down the hall to get service. The continental breakfast doesn't start until 8:00 am, which seemed late to me. However, the room was pleasant and spacious and clean.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the back because the traffic is noisy, especially during commute hours.

I have stayed here twice. The first time was perfect! Love the bungalows! Clean, fresh etc. Second time, our room was too perfumy smelling from the cleaning products used. We let the managers know and they seemed interested. Also, one of the lights kept turning on all night and waking up my husband. It was motion censored but we were sleeping....the maintenance guy was there and said he would fix it. Overall, between both stays I would recommend the place!

Room Tip: Get a bungalow! No one on top.

We wanted to love this B&B, but were sadly disappointed. Cigarette butts were all over the front lawn, towels were stained (even though they were clean, they should have bleached the stains out), we found three different spiders crawling up our bedroom walls and some of the staff, ONE girl in particular were not friendly or welcoming. Please work on these issues and we'll be back. I guess you pay for what you get....

This inn is a hidden gem in an overpriced the town Ojai. Considering that this inn is located in Ojai, the room was priced well. Though this inn is not extravagent in any way, it is quaint and very comfortable and it has a feel of a beach cottage and sometimes you cant even get that feel with very expensive hotels. We stayed in a bungalow in the back, and it was quiet and roomy. We stayed at six hotels in California during our vacation and it was the cheapest by far and the most enjoyable stay. It backed up to a neighborhood, which helped with the quietness and provided a nice leisurely quiet stroll. I found the staff very friendly, especially the younger girl. There was temperature issues in the shower it would turn hot to cold, but there is a nice window in the bathroom.

Room Tip: Ask for the bungalows in the back.

It took three days to get through to the desk to even book our Living social voucher. Staff was nice but rooms and grounds marginal. Breakfast…..if you want to call it that was a JOKE!
A few granola bars, a plate of OLD strawberries, packaged juice and some old oranges! Really?
No cereal, yogurt, rolls, milk…. With out a doubt the worst breakfast we have ever had at
any accommodation any place in the world…I am not kidding.
Another review states the Hot pool was being renovated….well it is now boarded over! There was also plenty of road noise if you were on your patio of in the pool area.

We took a spontaneous trip to Ojai to escape the June gloom on the coast. The weather was in the low 80's, which made for a perfect week there. We have stayed at other hotels and at vacation rentals in Ojai, and this was our first time at the Hummingbird. We chose it based on the photos and the description of the "deluxe king patio room," since we enjoy having our breakfast outdoors. We were very pleased with the room itself...comfortable bed, great TV/cable package, and lots of hot water. However, it appears that although the rooms have been remodeled recently, the insulation is insufficient allowing noise (voices, bathroom sounds) to be heard. And unfortunately, our patio was also very noisy, given that it shared a common fence with 2 other patios. Fortunately for us, we did not have lodgers next to us or over us for most of our stay. However, for a couple of days we heard barking dogs, babies crying, noisy air conditioning wall units, loud conversations on the patio as well as occasionally inside the room. Had the hotel been full, it would have definitely affected our comfort. ( We generally avoid "pet friendly hotels" .....who are these people who put two dogs outside on a patio that adjoins several others and then let them bark at will?!) Fortunately, this only happened on one morning but it was enough to remind me why we usually avoid this type of lodging. Also note that the pool is right next to the main street of Ojai, so the road noise makes it not conducive to relaxing or reading by the pool. Finally, a substandard breakfast.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet, relaxing experience, probably best to book elsewhere. If you're looking fo...
