very happy with the experience. we left the kids at home but very kid friendly. lots to do but we just relaxed by the pools. staff was great made the vacation run smooth. need reservations if you want to sit outside on the weekends for dinner to see the sunset. the country potatoes may have been sub par but that is it. it's really well done here.........

Room Tip: rooms and pools for everyone. quite to louder and the in between. bring cash cause your going want to tip.

Best place to unwind and relax. We first had a room that faced the golf course but they were doing work that made noise so we asked to be moved and we were moved to the Herb Garden rooms overlooking the pool. A gorgeous room with tub and fireplace and patio. Just loved it. We asked for a mini fridge which was awesome. There are four pools. A lap pool, a leisure pool, family pool and herb garden pool. All great service and beautiful. We ate at the pool for lunch and Jimmy's pub overlooking the golf course. We had a picnic under the wisteria arbor which is in the herb garden. Such a wonderful place.didn't want to leave.

Room Tip: The herb garden area is lovely but any where is gorgeous.

My husband and I decided to spend a long weekend at Ojai Valley Inn & Spa to celebrate our anniversary, and decided to bring our dog along with us since we'd read the hotel was dog friendly. While our stay wasn't perfect, it was very good!

In terms of the hotel itself, the grounds are beautiful and well-maintained, and I loved walking around each morning exploring the different gardens and buildings on the property. The landscaping is amazing as are the mission-style buildings.

We don't golf, but the golf course looked beautiful, and there was a ton of activity on and around it. I did utilize the spa facilities for a massage, and enjoyed the sauna, steam room, and hot tub while waiting for my massage to begin. Overall the massage was great, but overpriced, which is somewhat expected when you do a massage at a resort spa. If you utilize the rest of the spa facilities before or after your massage though, the cost is a little more worthwhile.

Similarly, the restaurants (and in-room dining) at the hotel were more expensive due to convenience. The food was decent, but probably 30% more than what you would pay if you were to just go into downtown Ojai. You're just paying for the experience and convenience of being able to eat at the resort rather than go into town, so as long as you're fine with that, it's a perfectly fine meal. One of perks for us was that Oak Grill, Joe n Go, and Jimmy's Pub had outdoor seating that allowed dogs to sit with you, so that was really convenient for us. If you have the time and means to walk or drive into downtown Ojai though, the restaurants are somewhat cheaper, and the few places we ate at were tasty and fresh.

The hotel is also conveniently located to the Ojai Valley trail - in fact, it picked up right across from our room in the hotel (in the Topa Court building), and goes for a number of miles into Ventura and Ojai. We walked the trail at least twice a day to go into town and to walk our dog, and while it wasn't the most exciting trail, it was safe and easy. Plus it was nice that you could take it right to the downtown area.

We also loved our room - the only thing I didn't like about the room was that the bathtub was somewhat old-fashioned with a older looking shower curtain. I generally prefer walk-in showers with glassdoors, particularly at hotels since they just feel more hygenic. But the bathroom was clean and spacious, as was the main bedroom. The bed was comfy, and the room well laid-out and decorated. We also appreciated that the staff had a dog bed and bowls for our dog, and the back door to our room opened out into a grassy patio on the ground floor, which made taking our dog out very easy and convenient.

The staff was also great - b/c our dog was with us, we wanted to make sure they didn't go in to clean the room while he was there (would make him nervous), so they were good about coming to clean the room as soon as we called them to let them know he'd be out for the next couple hours on a hike. We'd always come back to a clean and newly stocked room.

One small flaw if you're in the Topa Court building - it can be a bit loud. You're near the main lobby and atrium, and we'd often hear people (not sure if was guests or staff) talking or walking by as they pass your room in the early morning or late evening. There was also a wedding or some sort of party at the hotel the weekend we were there, and we were awoken several times one night by them hanging out in the hallway or atrium after the party. That's not really the hotel's fault though as the guests should have known to be more considerate, but that's something to consider if you're a light sleeper and would like to request a quieter location on the property.

Overall, a great - although pricey - experience.

Room Tip: Topa Court rooms are convenient but can be a little loud in that area as you're near the lobby.

I spent 5 days at this resort for a family reunion. I admit that I had reservations about this place...it seemed overly expensive and aside from golf didn't seem to have much more to offer than a regular hotel. But I was really won over by the service at this hotel, the attitude of the staff, the spa and the beautiful grounds.

First, let me say that the spa at this resort is FANTASTIC. The service is gracious and totally unpretentious. The spa is on the expensive side, but they do a fantastic job of making a massage, facial, pedicure (etc) into a real experience. And, although it is expensive, the staff don't put on an snooty attitude--they are very warm and genuine. I really appreciated that. I had a luxury pedicure and I have never experienced anything like it! It was to die for! Definitely worth the extra bucks!

The grounds are absolutely beautiful as well. I loved the multiple pools, especially the Herb Garden pool which was gorgeous and super relaxing. I love the gardens and orchards too. The property is so huge you could easily discover new things each time you went for a walk.

Since I was there for a reunion we stayed at the resort most of the time and ate at the restaurants. The food is good, but not super fantastic. It is expensive so if you care about cost you can probably eat better for less in town. The staff at the restaurants is really fantastic, they seem to be happy at work and are very gracious. Overall, the staff was amazing at every turn (tennis, golf, grounds, valet). They really seek to help you and are just so nice about it. Note to management: don't ruin a good thing! It is working!

We stayed in a Vista room which was nicely decorated and renovated. The bed was comfortable and the room was a bit larger than the regular room. The rooms are different and have diff amenities so if it matters to you make sure you ask.

One last thing: if you are availing of a special rate or some sort of package deal make sure you clarify the details of the package. If breakfast is included make sure you ask how much per person. If there is a resort credit make sure you clarify how much per room/per stay. Things are expensive at this place and it can add up quickly if you make the wrong assumption. Our one unpleasant interaction with a staff member (just one out of so many great ones!) was over this issue.

I'd definitely return. This is an ideal place to go with a group (that can afford it!) as it is easy to laze away at the resort and catch up while doing fun things.

We returned the Ojai Valley Inn in August 2014 to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The Inn has special memories for us as it is where I proposed (and she fortunately accepted!).

Our long weekend (three nights) at the Inn were almost perfect. We had the same room overlooking the first tee that was ours when were last at the Inn three years ago: we could look left, right, or center to see the stunning hillsides at sunrise, mid-day, or sunset. The large junior suite included an indoor gas fireplace and very large patio (17 x 10) overlooking the golf course. (I've stayed in business boutique hotels where the room was smaller than the patio I enjoyed this past weekend at the Ojai Inn.)

Our three-night package included the option of spa treatment, golf, or other resort amenities. We did the couples massage one day, and opted for golf on the other two. Unlike many golf resorts which try to pair couples into foursomes, the Ojai Inn let us go out on both days (Saturday and Sunday morning) as a couple, unencumbered by others, which we very much appreciated.

The Inn’s staff were attentive and eager to assist when asked. A special thanks goes Jimmy Catlet, the golf starter, who is a gracious gentleman of the old school.

We have two suggestions for management about things that would have improved our visit. First, put more lounging furniture on the large patios. Ours was sparsely populated with a just table, two chairs, and an umbrella. An ottoman for the chairs or, better yet, two chaise lounges, in addition to the two chairs, would have great for us for relaxing and reading -- and would probably be appreciated by future guests.

Our second suggestion involves the maintenance staff on the golf course, who no doubt work long, hard, and early hours. We left the patio door open at night to enjoy the fresh air and also to appreciate the outside quiet away from the city. So you can imagine our surprise (disappointment! frustration!! angst!!!) when we were jarred awake at 6:30 am on Sunday morning by the sound of the grounds people on the riding tractor who were cutting the grass on first tee and fairway under our patio. REALLY? Later in the day when I asked the golf staff about this I was told the early Sunday morning grounds work was “par for the course” (pun intended). I mentioned the unexpected Sunday morning wake-up call to the member of the hotel staff on check-out: I received an apology and also a small credit on the final invoice.

Patio furniture and the sounds of 6:30 am tee and fairway work under our patio notwithstanding, we very much enjoyed our long weekend at the Ojai Inn. We would recommend it to others and we plan to return.

On our next visit, in addition to enjoying a couples massage and playing golf, we also hope to be able to stretch out (maybe even nap) on our patio and sleep late on Sunday morning.

Room Tip: ask for room with view overlooking the mountains and the 1st tee
