“Quiet place to sleep”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 August 2009

Olema is not a busy town, and there a few places for lodging in this area. This is a nice, quiet, clean B&B located just off the main road in Olema, and down a stretch from Point Reyes Station.

We had a note with directions on how to open the door waiting for us when we arrived. We let ourselves in, found our room, and read through their provided reading materials on where to dine in the area in the main lobby area. The lobby also had a nice selection of reading materials.

The room was clean and well kept, but there were ants in the bathroom. A nice fireplace with an easy to use fire log was available. There is no A/C, but it's not really needed in this area. The queen bed sagged in the middle and squeaked when you rolled over.

The morning breakfast was juice, an apple pancake, fresh fruit salad and yogurt, bacon, and banana bread. Coffee and tea were also available.

It is an acceptable place to lodge if you are looking for a clean bed and some quiet.

We stayed here last October. I am surprised there have been no other reviews for almost two years on this property. There are five rooms in this B&B, and they were full all three weekend nights that we were there -- some of the guests telling us each morning at breakfast (family style) that they were "regulars" here from the California/Oregon area -- which speaks for itself.

We were very pleased with our stay. We had the "Vision Room", which is located away from the other four, in a very attractive corner with windows on three sides -- a nicely appointed room, large and clean, with a cathedral ceiling. No A/C, but then nobody in this area on the coast does -- the ocean breezes cool things down just fine in the evening.

Frank operates the B&B, while his wife works in San Francisco during the weekdays. Both were very friendly when we saw them -- although they can't spend a lot of time in the guests' study/kitchen/dining room area (which is very cozy) because of their other duties during the day. (The B&B building is separate and a short distance away from their residence.) Breakfast was delightful (although somewhat similar) each morning -- with a hot-prepared dish served right from the oven each day, along with a fresh fruit creation and a fresh baked bread. It was all we needed and very tasty.

This was a good choice for our 2-day/3-night visit to Point Reyes National Seashore -- which is another great recommendation: the visit to the lighthouse was spectacular, as was the special one-seating weekend dinner at Drake's Beach Cafe -- which transforms into a gourmet restaurant on weekend nights (this was one of the highlights of our 2-week vacation in the SFO area).

We highly recommend this B&B and all of the above named places, and wish we lived closer so we could return again.

This is a do-it-yourself inn. You let yourself in through directions on the door, and you have virtually no contact with the proprietors except at breakfast. The husband-owner was friendly and he made the breakfast, while the wife-owner was rather indifferent. They seem to commit as little time as possible to the inn, and pursue other ventures, which makes this a pretty good deal for the owners. I expect an inn to provide some personal service but that wasn't the case here.

After checking ourselves in, and returning around dinner time, we didn't see an owner until we came back later in the night and didn't have any dinner, since we weren't aware the rest.'s generally close at 9:00. She didn't seem that concerned about us either. The breakfast was pretty bad and unhealthy, and we decided instead the second morning to eat in Pt Reyes, which has a very good bakery. Despite all that. it's a nice property in a pretty area with few inns, and the room we got was very quiet and very clean.

Overall, it wasn't worth the high price, and I'd seek other accommodations next time, such as one down the road. Indeed, my negative experience at the inn unfortunately colored an otherwise very nice trip to the area.

My husband and I were anxious to get away and we were so pleased with Roundstone. When we drove up to the inn, there was a note welcoming us and instructing us how to enter the home (because really, it feels more homey than like an inn). We found our room, with robes and a fire place waiting for us. (oh, and a super comfy bed) We had a lovely view of the meadow and could hear nature sounds all night and early morning (it was a treat). Breakfast far exceeded our expectations. The first day we had fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, sausage patties, fritatta and fresh baked warm banana bread plus fresh fruit and yogurt. The second day we had guava juice, bacon, blueberry souffle with fresh, warm cornbread and fruit/yogurt. The company of the innkeepers was a real treat as we got to hear a bit about the area and the folks/characters that live there. The sitting room has books and magazines and is very welcoming. As is the large deck outside where you can borrow binoculars and bird watch. It was the perfect get-a-way for us!

On a trip to California in May 2005, we (2 senior couples) decided to make it a B & B trip. We searched the internet to find our places. We chose Roundstone Farm because of the beautiful pictuires on their website. The place matched the pictures in its beauty, but we found that there is more to a B & B that beauty. Something was missing here.

The accommodations were everything that was described--beautiful. Even with lovely large sitting room for relaxation, beautiful and immaculately clean bedrooms, a beautiful decks for sitting out, there was something important missing from this place. With a price tag of $170.00 per night, we were very disappointed in the breakfasts--mediocre at best. It is hard to pinpoint exactly what else was missing from Roundstone Farm. We have experienced many B & Bs and this one just did not live up to our expectations. The hosts were friendly. We were pleased with the fact that there were no TVs or radios, but frustrated with the lack of a clock in any of the rooms or common areas. Breakfast was to be at 8:30 prompt, but we were not sure of the time so we had to sit around and wait.

Great B&B with spacious clean rooms, skylights and wood-burning fireplaces in every room. We came to Point Reyes for Valentine's Day (weekend), and stayed in the Vision room, the largest, with enough room (and extra bed) for a couple with a child.

All rooms overlook the hilltops, pond, and five acres of land. Be sure to open your windows at night to hear the frogs and crickets chirping. It adds to the tranquility. Robes, extra towels, and even slippers are provided in each room so you can enjoy the walled hot tub with an open roof for star gazing.

Rooms are large enough to create your own private space, have keys of their own, and the front door combination lock allow you to come and go as you please. Hot water, tea, and cups are offered day and night, along with dishes, glasses, and refrigerator use (which we used for our champagne).

The living room is a great place to congregate, and has couches, a wood burning stove, magazines and books, as well as a stellar view of the hilltops and horses. On the coffee table, there's a book of menus from local restaurants and a phone especially for guest use, though the host, Frank also offered to make any reservations we needed.

After enjoying the best night's sleep I'd had in weeks, the full breakfast was a delight.

Coffee, tea, the most delicious, sweet pink grapefruit juice, mixed exotic fruit, and a spinach, cheddar and egg quiche the first day, and a light, delicious apple pancake the second was a treat. Conversation was easy, (Frank and the other guests were great fun to talk to), and we found ourselves wondering if we could just stay one more day...

This is a fantastic B&B, perfect for anyone wanting privacy and friendliness, cleanliness and rest.

I pulled up to the B&B and saw a sign saying "No Vacancy". Immediately, I thought there must be something to this place, after all, there seemed to be vacancies through-out town. Come to find out, the sign was up because the owners do not want people from off the street. We ended up being the only guest. If you are looking for luxury or any special amenities, this is not the place for you. The place was clean, but no hair dryer, 2 in 1 shampoo, no alarm clock, flowers wilting in the vase, things like that... Definitely did not get my money's worth. At breakfast, the owner was quite clear, while sitting down and monopolizing the conversation, that this is not their main focus. Now - why didn't they make that clear on their website?! That was definitely a huge factor in the whole experience. And one that I would never like to experience again.
