It's so rare to have an experience that exceeds your expectations. This place does that. Centrally located, great staff (thank you, Grant) clean/comfortable accommodations. It was so much nicer than a hotel. Our family loved it.
Pair that with breath taking views of the Redwoods at Prairie Creek or the ocean at St. Patrick Point; and you have the perfect vacation.

My family thoroughly enjoyed our 6 night stay. We rank this adventure at the top of our list. Grant was wonderful host and full of insight as to where and what to do. The peaceful atmosphere was what made this trip better than Yellowstone. The "cabins" are more like homes which made unwinding alot easier after crazy bikes rides and breathaking hikes. The Orick Market is supplied with most groceries which will come in handy due to the lack of restaurants. You will die the first time you meet the elk. The kids already are asking to come back.

This is a fantastic place for:

-families
-as a base camp to cover the gems of the Redwoods area
-picking more blackberries than you can consume if you are there in season
- seeing the elk herd up close and personal. . .every day
-relaxing
-playing soccer, frisbee, or any other grass activity

The location is exceptional. Lady Bird (don't miss it!), Prairie Creek and Fern Canyon are all within minutes. The beach is also extremely close. We hiked the Trinidad Head trail which turned out to be a big highlight. We found time to go soak in the Finnish Sauna and tubs in Arcata (Cafe Mokka) because the location of these houses is so central. We even made it to a Bigfoot Museum (request of the 15yo). We felt like we gained loads of time because of how centrally located the houses turned out to be.

Not unlike the elk herd. . .you will quite literally be in the middle of the herd. We had the joy of season 8 elk calves with the herd and while people were stopping their cars and craning to get a distant shot from the road we felt so fortunate to be spending days and nights with these beautiful animals really observing their habits and learning what it sounds like to be woken by elk calf bleating- we slept through it after the first morning!

The houses are cozy and extremely well outfitted. There's a nice market called Gooseberries in Arcata which is worth the drive to stock up and put the kitchens' to use. Our family of 5 fit super comfortably. The only downside at least when we were there was the weak wifi. It did lend itself to more nature and less device however!

My husband found this place after doing some research on the internet. If you want the closeness of nature without the hassles of camping, look no further! Elk Meadow Cabins are set in a central location with Prairie Creek State Park to the north and Lady Bird Grove to the south (off Hwy 101). Plenty of hiking/biking trails within walking distance. YES there were ELK (females) lounging in the front yard for the first two mornings of our stay. We had reserved cabin #7 (Beachcomber) which included a queen bed and two twin beds, big bathroom (but small shower), mini kitchen with microwave, toaster, coffee maker, mini fridge (we did a lot of grilling outside on the gas grill), a TV, and free wifi. The communal hot tub was situated right behind our cabin and next to our driveway so it SEEMED like our own private hot tub. There's also a friendly cat, named Seven, that hangs around cabin #7. The BEST part of our stay was getting to know Grant, who offered many helpful suggestions for hikes and attractions. He even went above and beyond by offering us rides to the top of the parkway on Bike Day and to the trailhead for Lady Bird Johnson Grove; that way, we'd end up back the the cabins instead of worrying about doubling back to the start to get our car - he was a LIFESAVER! Vanessa and Jackie were nice too; definitely made you feel like you could ask them anything at anytime without worries. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for the perfect redwoods accommodation.

Room Tip: Cabin #7 (Beachcomber) is the first cabin you see when you drive into the resort, and thus you may g...

Great location, beautiful house. Just the space we needed after several days in hotels. We loved watching the elk right outside the doors. We enjoyed hanging out on the back deck. The boys (14 & 9) were able to play soccer in front and back. We were there two nights and wished we had planned longer. Everything you could want. Get groceries before you get close, no major grocery stores in proximity. Also no big choices for restaurants. We were happy to cook.

This is such a wonderful place. We felt very safe and comfortable. The cabins have all the comforts of a regular home (just bring your shampoo and food) - plus the layout and decor is very pleasant and comfortable. The people who run it were very nice and helpful. A small herd of elk seem to make the grounds theirs, so you have much closer viewing access than probably anywhere else in the park. It's close to all the main trails and attractions and Newton B Drury scenic parkway. We stayed for a week and did not want to leave. This might have been my favorite vacation ever, and staying here was a big part of that.

Room Tip: The cabins are right off of highway 101, but in a remote area, so there is not that much traffic. T...

Lots of elk meandering right next to the cabins the four nights we stayed there (July 7-July 12, 2013). Staff were very friendly and helpful. Front desk guy was very knowledgeable about the trails and which were busy when. Donna even volunteered to drive the four of us up to the Lady Bird Grove because parking was limited. The trail connects to Berry Glen Trail which comes right back down next to the Elk Meadow cabins. We stayed one night in #19 Johnny Redwood Cabin and four nights at #11 Roosevelt Elk. We liked #19 the best because it was on the end of the row and the elk liked to sit on its front lawn. The cabins sit right between two redwood parks. Very convenient. The cabins have everything you need to make yourself at home and make your own meals. We ate twice in Trinidad, though, at the Larrupin' Cafe because it was so good.

Room Tip: We liked #19 the best because it was on the end of the row with park views on three sides, and the e...
