“I loved this place!”
Reviewed 15 November 2013

Small museum with a lot of local animal and bird life on display much like a very large park nature center, which was interesting for us to see. Rotating exhibits that are smallish - the one we saw was on Monarch butterflies. They ask only for a donation which is completely at your discretion. There is a very cool garden with only native plants that are not tended in any way except to keep the paths clear, which gives you some idea of what actually grows and blooms in the area in season, and also contains some lovely sculpture to see. Absolutely charming place! Very authentic.

“Tiny, but Packed”
Reviewed 24 October 2013

This is a small museum supported by a small town, but it is packed with interesting exhibits. Their taxidermy collection is especially impressive, all the more so because of their thoughtful explanation of the history of the art and the collection and of collecting itself. The monarch butterfly exhibit is also very informative and interactive.

“Great when the kids need entertainment”
Reviewed 20 October 2013

This very attractive little museum is just made to entertain children, but adults will also enjoy the trip. There is a life-size whale sculpture outside that kids can climb on. There is a permanent exhibition of birds, snakes, mammals, etc that is devoted to the local species. The monarch butterfly exhibit is a must if you are going over to the Monarch Grove to view this lovely creatures. The museum always has a temporary exhibit which is outstanding. These exhibits may feature photographic art, Native People history, or a wide-variety of other interesting topics...and its all free although a small donation or purchase from the gift shop is appreciated.
Across the street is a park for running and jumping and the Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce offices. The offices offers information and coupons for local restaurants and inns and staff that are happy to help you plan your day. Be sure to take a photo with Mr. Stillwell sitting on the bench outside the building. From the museum is it is a short walk down a Victorian cottage street to Lovers Point, another place to picnic and enjoy the ocean. Plan about 1-2 hours for the museum.
