This b and b is very comfortable, Excellant staff, the views from every turn are beautiful. We sat and watched whales while we ate breakfast wow our room was on the 3rd floor and we had an ocean view from 3 sides. Bed was very comfortable. Wine and cheese reception was very nice.

Couples longing for a memorable experience should stay at Seven Gables at least once because it has a uniquely romantic view. It's priced as an all-round experience with coffee in the morning, shared tables at breakfast, help-yourself mini-bar, wine and cheese from 4-6 pm and cookies and milk from 8-10 pm. So couples need to plan how to use those expensive waking hours that will pass all too quickly.

Because we had visited the Pacific Grove area before, we opted for spending more time in a room with a good view. We stayed for two nights in the Ocean Mist room which we feel has the best view of all of the rooms. Ocean Mist is located at the end of a building over what appears to be a garage-storage area so there was absolutely no neighbor noise and minimal outside noise. With our own view available 24 hours a day, we could appreciate the rise and fall of the tides and force of the sea against the rounded rocks during different times of day.

Many couples came early to sit at the public area seats with the best views for the wine and cheese buffet and stayed almost throughout the happy hour. We really loved some of the cheeses. The chocolate chip cookies were great at 8 pm. There was no view after it got dark at about 5:30 pm in December. Between the wine and cheese and cookies, one really doesn't have to eat dinner, but we walked a couple of blocks to Max's family-run Restaurant for an excellent meal.

Some great things about our stay:
• The soft drinks were replenished every day in the refrigerator.
• We did not miss a TV. If we wanted in-room entertainment, we would have brought videos in our laptop.
• The wi-fi signal was always strong, and we logged in only once a day.
• The heat was easy easy to regulate. The electric fireplace actually made heat.
• The curtains were thick and easy to close and keep closed at night
• The room was well decorated with pretty prints of paintings and stained glass windows.
• The breakfast had a smaller than usuall number of offerings, but there was considerable attention to detail. Their coffee cake was quite delicious, and we noted that the scrambled eggs were prepared so that the whites and yolks appeared as different clumps.
• The public rooms and spaces are quite beautiful to contemplate. Sitting in the parlor or at the reception room is a bit like visiting a former palace.

Personal attention is emphasized. They always have someone show newcomers the facilities and show them to their room. At the end, the bill is accompanied by a brown envelope for a voluntary tip for staff to be handed in at reception. Staff try very hard to be friendly and they always seek ways to interact with the couples. We were asked how was our stay when we checked out.

We feel that Seven Gables is an excellent value, depending on what kind of room you select and how you spend your time while staying there.

Pros: views, service, breakfast
Cons: NONE

My work booked the entire inn for its Christmas retreat and my wife and I had a fantastic stay. We stayed in the rocky shores room which 180 degree views of the ocean. You were put to sleep by the sound of the waves crashing as you sleep on one of the most comfortable beds.

What I think makes this place stand out is the attention to detail. Every square inch of our room and the inn was clean and in prime condition. It had the charm of an older inn but with all the modern conveniences including a decent wi-fi signal.

The other thing that stands out is the great service. Whether checking us in, serving the wonderful breakfast or the wine and cheese hour, their staff were on top of things.

I am a critical person and this place gave me nothing to complain about.

Believe the hype they are that good

This was our first trip to the Seven Gables Inn, but it will definitely not be our last. I had always admired the hotel from afar, but never got my act together to stay there. When we decided to go to the Monterey/Carmel area for the Thanksgiving holiday, I immediately thought of this lovely Bed & Breakfast. Our two night stay was so perfect that we ended up extending it a night. The rooms were clean and attractive. But the best part was the terrific view of the ocean. We both sat in chairs by our picture window admiring the view at different times of the day. I watched the sun rise over the bay on 3 separate mornings, and it was different and so beautiful each of the days. At night I would fall asleep to the sound of the waves rushing onshore, and the barking of the seals. These weren't loud and distracting sounds, but peaceful and calming. I slept like a baby each night in the soft comfy sheets. Sheets that were so comfy that we bought a set to bring home with us.

Coffee is served in the breakfast room starting at 6:30 a.m. to kick start your day. Since the hotel is right across the street from the ocean and a walking/bike riding path, there are lots of things to see and do just outside your front door. Lots of people were out just before sunrise walking themselves or their dogs, or biking or running. The small town of Pacific Grove was terrific with lots of great restaurants and things to do, but not the crowds of Monterey or Carmel.

Breakfast is included in the very reasonable room charge and is served from 8 to 10 each morning. It was different and delicious everyday. The first morning we had scrambled eggs (these are served everyday) and bacon. Also enjoyed the stuffed blueberry waffles and the great coffee and Odwalla juices. The second day we had chicken sausage and some type of potatoes au gratin, which were delicious. The third day we had Virginia ham and eggs and fresh scones. Oatmeal, fresh fruit and yogurt, as well as a large selection of breads were available everyday.

From the hotel lobby we could see seals and dolphins playing and jumping in the Bay. The rooms and the lobby have binoculars so that guests can look out on the view and see the special wildlife, etc. The hotel holds a wine tasting in the lobby each day from 4 to 6. They serve a large selection of usually 4 Monterey area wines including several reds and at least one white wine. The quality of the wine is excellent, and the woman that pours is fun to talk to. At night, the hotel provides fresh chocolate chip cookies for those with a sweet tooth.

We had a great time and you will too. We are already looking forward to our next trip!

Room Tip: Seemed like all the rooms have a view so hard to go wrong.

We only staid for one night but it was great. Amazing seaside view with a beautiful sunset while we were enjoying the wine and cheese service at the end of the day. Very nice room with a magnificent view on the sea. Breakfast was perfect.

This is 'The' perfect B&B. Even though it has a lot of rooms (multiple properties that are in a sort of compound) it feels like a quaint romantic home. The rooms are all immaculate with loads of beautiful antiques, mostly Victorian and a bit of Art Deco. Almost every room has some sort of water view and most if not all have a fireplace. We would absolutely recommend it and will stay there our next trip. Worth a phone call to scope out the perfect room. My boyfriend went back since our stay for just a one night and opted for the least expensive room (we stayed in the main house front together) and he said it was nice but for the difference he would take the higher priced room. The front water views are really spectacular.
Breakfast is a buffet with plenty of options.

Room Tip: spring for the full water view rooms
