I stayed there for a conference. My room did not equip with telephone or TV. The room is spacious but quite simple and out dated. The rooms are spread out in many buildings and not easy to find. I felt like that i was in a national park. The location was quite excellent, you can walk to the beach and enjoy the nice scenarios. I am not sure if it's an ideal place for conference but definitely a good place for back to nature retreat.

Wow. What do I say? From the outside, the grounds look really nice and you expect to walk into a nice room. Once inside, you find badly faded red carpet, no TV, wood paneling, minimal furnishings, exposed box springs (not even a dust ruffle!). Rooms look like they haven't been updated since the 1970's. Rooms are housed in sections and very hard to find. You have to park in the lot and then try and find the section your room is in and walk to it. At night, the grounds are really dark. The only positive things I can add are the beds and pillows were decent and the room was clean. Expensive for such a bare-bones room. Wouldn't stay here again.

THOROUGHLY DISAPPOINTING

We recently visited Monterey. Instead of staying at one of the area's many, low-level strip motels, we thought we'd splurge (almost $200!) on a night at Asilomar. We reserved on-line, through Expedia, and clicked the photograph of the historic hotel, as well as requesting this in writing.

When we arrived, check-in was disorganized, with people cutting in line, etc. The receptionist could not have cared less what we reserved! And was rude, as well! She said they had no room like what we'd requested. Instead, she gave us another room.

Unbelievably, this room wasn't even at Asilomar! Instead, it was two blocks away! We parked where the receptionist directed (on the street); and had to walk along a dirt path to the room. (I mean dirt!). Unfortunately, it had been raining, so our shoes were muddy by the time we found the room. The room? - It was worse than any Monterey strip motel. Window shades were broken, finishes were old, and the room smelled musty. However, worst of all was the tiny bathroom, with black mold growing on the shower (no tub); and an old, dis-colored, deteriorating vinyl floor. Also, no soap, shampoo, etc. - you're supposed to squeeze these from the dispenser in the shower! We've never stayed at a Motel 6 that was this sleazy! Asilomar should be ashamed charging $200 for rooms this squalid; and for mis-representing what they have available. Shame on them!

Our advice? Avoid at all costs

Room tip: Unfortunately, we've no advice here, except this - Stay Somewhere Else!

Just returned from a weekend at Asilomar. We went with a group and I have to say I am appalled that they charged over $200 a night for a room that looks like a Motel 6. What are they doing with all this money? Nothing has been updated at all. Even the common rooms at some of the buildings look like they have original furniture dating back to the 60's. Our carpets were old and stained. Did not want to walk barefoot in the room. The food at the free breakfast was nice and hearty but it was more like an assembly line with a youth hostel feel. Lines were long and service was very slow. Right across the street from a beautiful beach so the location was nice but I would definitely not come back again.

The rooms are really outdated- old carpeting & tile. Had the bed, dresser and a desk. Very simplistic in style, comfort and decor. It has a nice cabin feel and walking around outside is beautiful but I was glad to only have to go to our room to sleep.
