It was my first time in this type of place. A little bit outdated and rustic for me, but the nature and things to do with family or friends are great. I went for a conference and didn't like it for that, but for vacation and resting I would. The bedroom cabins are outdated. Resembling the 70s.....it reminded me of the parent trap movie and I thought that either yogi bear or smokey will say hi.
Close by there are many attractions. The beach, aquarium of Monterey, vineyards, a drive thru the freeway towards big sur is really nice. Great views for pictures. The service is good and people are helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for ocean view.

This was my first time here and the Monterey pines are magnificent! Being so close to the beach and Pacific Ocean is amazing. They are doing many improvements to the setting by putting in lovely brick paver paths. I like having the internet. I do not mind having no tv and no phone. However, the burnt orange bathroom counter really dated the place. It would help tremendously to have rooms available with refridgerator and microwaves!!! I do not eat enough to go to the dining room for very meal and it is also more expensive. I also do not like to have to come to every meal at a certain time which feels very restrictive to me. I liked the panini and the cheese plate at the deli. I do appreciate all of the recycling efforts and available recycling bins in the room and everywhere on campus.

This is the third time I've stayed here, twice in historic rooms, once in a newer room. Don not expect luxury, although the rooms were very clean and the newer ones quite nice with decks. The older ones are cramped, but absolutely unique and each group of historic rooms shares a lovely living room with fireplace, great for reading, board games with kids, etc.
There is no tv anyplace (although once during the Olympics a small set was set up.) Wifi is available anyplace. They have many acres of beach, dunes, and of course the beach. One day I asked the kids what they wanted to do, and they simply wanted to walk the beach. It's right next to Pebble Beach, about 10 minutes from Monterey. It's acutally in the town of Pacific Grove, an absolutely lovely, Victorian beach town, way nicer than Monterey. It's quiet and has wonderful beaches. This is a conference center, so only the extra rooms go to tourists. They also serve meals, which you pay for in advance. They are quite good, although we didn;t buy them for my oldest son, who would rather have a banana. Rates vary acoording to how many conferences they have and season. This time we paid $139 for historic room (Julia Gordan designed the grounds and older buildings). The last time I wanted to stay here it would have been over $200 for the same room so we stayed elsewhere. They also serve wine and other things in a small restaurant off of lobby. The quiet, gorgeous lobby overlooks ocean.
Again, not fancy, but so, so peaceful and quiet.

Room Tip: If it's quiet the historic rooms are great. But, the walls are thin, if it's pretty busy ch...

First time i went to asilomar for a congress, i must say, i hate it, no TV, no phone in the rooms, no wifi!!! it was like being in a episode of Survivor!
This second time, though, i truly understand Asilomar, its peaceful night, it was another congress, but i needed peace, no TV, no phones seem to me like a paradise (but at least now we have wi-fi in the rooms, afterall we are not made of iron!)
i still think we can pass without TV or even phones, but wi-fi in the rooms is essential and it was from excellent quality
Meals are delicious, but they were very strict with the time (what for me it is a paradox in Asilomar, a place in which we should feel time as a friend not an enemy). Anyway, i do understand they need to organize and schedule everything because of the congresses, but maybe it could be nice to have a cafeteria there to people like me that learned to feel Asilomar and , at least for some days, not to feel smashed by the velocity and speed of the actual modern world - i was seeing stars in the sky in Asilomar! God, when it was the last time i could do it in the city?

I spent 3 nights at Asilomar at a meeting; I had been there about 6 times previously,, and love it. It is rustic and tranquil, and almost functions as a retreat. They are upgrading some of the paths to make it more disabled-friendly. The rooms are comfortable, not luxurious. Bathrooms are a bit small. The staff is low-key but helpful. One change since my last visit is the addition of wi-fi access in the rooms. There is a clock radio in the rooms, but no room phones or TV ( which is a blessed relief). If you want a 5 star resort, this isn't it, but if you want a relaxing, few-frills place to stay in a beautiful setting, I highly recommend it.

I was there for a conference and stayed for 3 nights. The rooms and conference center are located in a beautiful setting, near the Pacific and full of vegetation, deer and squirrels. The rooms were very nice, clean and cozy. I think the food and service at the restaurant was ok but a little below expectations. A very very nice place.

This was reminiscent of summer camp but upscale and pricey. My room was comfortable with a great bed, fireplace, and wide glass patio doors overlooking a wooded area where the deer hung out. The central lodge is similar to those built in the national parks, and coastal dunes were adjacent to the property. The real surprise was the top-quality food and efficient service in the dining room. The dining hall was a bit of a hike from our rooms, and walking along the road or across asphalt parking lots undermined any sense of being in nature. This was a good setting for our small conference but definitely too pricey if I were traveling on vacation.
