Owner description: The oldest operating lighthouse on the West Coast.

Oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the West Coast. Easy to get there and ample parking in area. Docents and displays add to the experience. Maintained by local historical society, so donations are welcomed at the door. View of how lighthouse living arrangement of 150 years ago very interesting.

While watching the Monarch Butterflies at Pacific Grove a local recommended I visit the lighthouse. What a treat! The view of the ocean from the Lighthouse is fantastic! A tour guide was on site who shared the history of the building. A must see if you are in the area.

Tried to just take a photo in the AM and was told by a man that the lighthouse was CLOSED and to step back behind the gate (which was open when I arrived). Don't make the same mistake I did. Stay back from the gate until the official opening times listed on the sign.

This is a remarkable restoration - a piece of California history not to be missed. Volunteers are very friendly and provide background. We even met one woman who lived there as a young bride in the 50's! Loved it!!

A little piece of history tucked away. For $2 you can come inside and see the living areas and basement where there is some interesting items and information. Volunteers are very knowledgeable and interesting. We were greeted by a Navy wife who was stationed here with her husband in the 1950's. Very cool to hear her story. Beautiful view and wonderful photo op. Some restoration work is being done but it's still open and easy to access.
