Due to the many great reviews, I decided to take my mother to this restaurant during our birthday trip to Monterey. We went there on a weekday and arrived when they opened so they were empty at the time.
Service: good, unobtrusive, attentive service.
Ambience: Nicely dim lit with table cloths, traditional decor and I think a fireplace in the inner half of the restaurant. Good for a first date but not necessarily formal enough for an anniversary dinner.
Melanzane parmigiana appetizer - large portion of delectable eggplant covered with a flavorful marinara, fresh basil and melted cheese. The portion seemed HUGE but our waiter was right when he said it's lighter than it looks. My dainty mother and I ate every last bite. I'm craving it as I write this review.
Porcini mushroom panzerotti - generous portion, 10 pieces of house made ravioli filled with porcini mushrooms in a rosemary cream sauce. Loved the firm pasta wrapped around savory mushroom filling. Cream sauce was sinful.
Sandabs: my mother had this and love the light breading without all the oil - it was grilled. I stole some of the Veggies accompanying the fish and they were perfectly cooked lightly - so succulent yet crisp.
