“One of our favorites in Monterey area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 February 2012

Petra has been one of our favorite stops in the Monterey-Carmel-Pacific Grove area for many years. It's a family-operated restaurant with excellent service and fresh, hearty fare. The vegetarian plate should appeal to anyone, and the falafel ranks with the best. Have had many good family experiences here, and friends we have introduced to Petra have liked it, too. For a low-key and hearty meal that will not break the bank, Petra works. Whenever we visit Pacific Grove, I'm glad to see it there.

Love their gyros and Greek salad. Wish I had the recipe for their vinaigrette dressing. Delicious!

“Just OK”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 December 2011

This restaurant was just ok. The pita sandwiches we had included the meat, lettuce, a slice or two of tomato and one sliver of red onion. Mine was supposed to come with both a cucumber/yogurt sauce and hummus. Although there was a little sauce on it, it was flavorless and i could not have told you if it was a combo of the two sauces or just one. Prices for sandwiches (no fries or other accompaniments) were under $10 but other entres or dinners were between $10 and $20. Perhaps the dinners were better than what we got. The dining room was nice, cozy and good atmosphere, overlooking the street, but service was very slow. I would not return.

“Wonderful Mediterranean food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 October 2011

The wife and I loved every tidbit of our dinners. She had the (1st on the menu) combination plate: beef kabob, a little beef? gyros, very good minty tabbouleh, hummus, and grape leaves (dolmas). I had the gyros plate with some of the same items. It's just that the beef and especially the lamb gyros were moist and tender and warm. Served with a basket of warm pita bread to dip into the hummus. The only downside were the beef kabobs which were tough. The Lebanese beer is a Pilsner (a little wimpy for my taste) and the house red wine is pretty good, especially for the price. For the price, get the pinot for a buck or two more. Service was very good. We had quite a wait for the food after ordering with only two or three other tables filled. So don't go with a low blood sugar level. Or make it leisurely and have 2 glasses of wine before dinner. Reasonable prices too!

“great place to have authentic mediterranean food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 June 2011

Went here on a recommendation and absolutely loved it! Delicious ethnic food without the steep price tag. We were with another couple and decided to get the "royal feast," a delicious combination of three meats, rice with veggies, and side dishes and dips. The meal was finished off with baklava and outstanding turkish coffee. It was a wonderful experience that also included a fireplace! We will be back to try other items on the menu.
