My husband and I found this place via Yelp reviews. We were staying along Cannery Row in Monterey and wanted to find a decent place to eat away from of all the touristy places by the water.
We arrived for an early (6pm) dinner and aside from some women in the bar, had the place to ourselves. Many things on the menu looked good, so we ordered a bunch of small plates to share.
Deviled egg (green harissa & jamon). Very good. I like the bit of crunch from the jamon on top.
Warm bread plate: both the hummus and the feta dip were very nice. The house prepared olives were fresh and tangy tasting.
Chicken wings (tahini, garlic, & chile) Probably my favorite thing on the menu, and one of my all time favorite wing experiences.
Chicken liver pate (pickled onions & px sherry): very nice.
Crispy octopus: this was also a big hit and it the presentation was beautiful.
Catalan salad w/romesco dressing: It was good, but way over-dressed.
Yogurt Cake (citrus & pistachio): fantastic dessert. Not too sweet, not too heavy.
Service was excellent. Our waiter was awesome. The owner even offered us a small glass of wine he felt would go well with a few of the items we ordered. I don't drink, so I cannot comment on the wine, but my husband agreed with the selection.
My only regret is that we didn't have room to try other items. The eggplant fries get a lot of mention, but we were just too stuffed. The chicarones (maple & pimenton) were not on the menu the day we went or else those would've been nice to try.
This was definitely the best meal of our trip, and next time we are in the area, Jennini will be our go-to place.
