The prices are very reasonable especially for this area. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

It is a convenient location on the end of the main street, close to the shore and a short walk to shops, great restaurants, and the beach. Monterey, Fisherman's Wharf, Cannery Row, the Aquarium, Pebble Beach, and Carmel are a short drive away.

My largest complaint is the noise. The walls are PAPER THIN!! You hear EVERYTHING and I mean everything! Bathroom noises, slamming doors, hair dryers, talking, etc. We also had the pleasure of a couple fighting next door to us, and I had to all the front desk at 11:30pm. The very next morning at 7:30am the folks below us had what seemed like 15 people staying there, complete with kids, a loud grandma and a heard of elephants. They were loud, obnoxious and inconsiderate. I blame them more as inconsiderate guests rather than the property, but it should be pointed out he will hear everything if you have noisy neighbors. I also feel the property should do a better job of enforcing quiet hours. Do a walk around. See if you hear folks fighting at midnight or kids screaming at 7:30am. Because of the noise, we wouldn't stay here again unfortunately.

The room itself was decent. Clean, average size. Nice bed with comfy bedding and extra pillows. The shower/toilet area is small and our showerhead hardly had any power. They are a bit outdated.

The continental breakfast was just what you'd expect; Costco yogurt, baked goods, cereal OJ and of course coffee - we were satisfied. The area to eat is very small so we just took everything back to our room and ate on the balcony, which worked perfect for us.

Overall, a place to stay for convenience and decent pricing.

I usually take advantage of the travelzoo deals for Olympia Lodge & have not yet been disappointed. I love the location, it is just a 5-10 mins walk to the lighthouse & a good 20-30 mins walk to downtown Pacific Grove. Lodging also comes with continental breakfast. The prices are very reasonable especially for this area.

Room was pretty much what I expected. It had the lodge atmosphere but was very small. The bathroom was tiny and outdated. We had a problem with our shower (wouldn't drain), called the front desk and they let us use another room to shower. Overall, I was pretty happy with the room for the price paid compared to others in the area. If they remodeled the bathrooms I'd stay there again. Staff was friendly and helpful.

We stayed a couple nights at Olympia lodge based on an online deal. I probably wouldn't stay here again, but wouldn't object either if I had to. For those who hasn't stayed in the Monterey Peninsula before, accommodations are expensive. Even a 2 star motel lodging generally cost $100. The pricing for Olympia would be a bit higher than a motel option but location is better than those options around Monterey.

The location - 4 stars
Very good location. Pacific Grove is more understated that it's Carmel and Monterey cousins. It's walking distance to downtown PG, and just a stone's throw away from the ocean. We took a walk from lodge down to Cannery Row one day and just explored all the various cliffs and hideaway beach areas. It's good for biking/jogging, etc. Downtown PG is also quiant with nice little restaurants, coffee shops and stores for those who want to get away (slightly) from the touristy areas of Cannery Row, Fisherman's Wharf and Carmel.

The facility - 2 stars
I had read there was some updates to the rooms. Our room was dated. It's was of decent cleanliness but just everything about it was dated. Very small bathtub/toilet area and the sink was right next to the front door. The faucet on/off handles were strange functioning. The breakfast area was in a small area by the front desk where people had to sit along the fireplace ledge, etc. We were there on a weekday so it wasn't even full. Some people had to eat the breakfast in their rooms as there was no place to sit.

Noise - 2 stars
Thank goodness that 1 night only someone above us and next door, whereby the 2nd night it seems no one above us. The walls are really thin. You can hear someone walking above loudly. And next door when someone is opening closing shower door, you can hear it. The good part is we didn't really hear the lighthouse ave street traffic from our room.

Misc - 1 star
We ended up staying in an upgraded room w/2 queen beds instead of 2 fulls. It was sold as "partial ocean view" room. I didn't get the room because of the view, but there really was no view as marketed. There is a big tree in front of the most of the rooms facing the ocean. I suppose on a really, really clear day, there might be a few inches of view to see, so it wasn't a false statement, but certainly don't stay in those rooms to think you will relax on your balcony w/a nice view or anything. Also, the pool was not open and that was not made clear. Many families with kids choose to stay in a place specifically for a pool, so definitely ask if it's open if it is important to you.

Service - 4 stars
Front desk people were friendly and maid service on time, so that was good.

Overall - Solid 3 stars
Given that we got a good deal online for the lodge, I'd probably give a 3.5 stars. It's pretty close to staying in motel just with a slightly better location. Overall, I'd say for the price and location it's a viable option, but just have realistic expectations.

We had a really hard time finding lodging for our weekend stay in June in the Monterey area and used a third party to help us book our stay. The Olympia Lodge was one of the only places left in our price range. Two rooms for one night and a one room for two nights. My son and his family arrived a day before us and felt the property was not up to their standards and left to stay in another hotel which was more of what they were looking for. The front desk lady was nice enough to offer us a refund for that night.

We arrived the next day and were given a room downstairs with a King bed, our daughter and her family decided to come over and use the extra room for the night. They had a room downstairs with two double beds. Our room smelled very musty but it was decorated nice enough, the bathroom was tiny with minimal amenities. The property is showing wear, peeling paint and unkept landscaping. The potted plant outside our room was dead with a broken pot.

The breakfast area is very average with a basic continental breakfast offered. This was a very short stay and we were not at the property that much except to sleep and shower. I would suggest putting a little bit of maintenance into the property to bring it up to snuff. The little touches are what makes a property quaint and charming.

Other reviews state that there is a pool, but it is NOT the hotel's pool. It is the condo complex next door that has the pool, not the Olympia Lodge and it was closed. The grounds are not kept up here either and is much need of attention.

we stayed for 3 night at the end of June. The hotel staff was great, we even got to check in early! The room was nice with a balcony. Because of the ocean it was a bit musty but we were prepared with Fabreeze! The cleaning services were great and timely. The staff was accommodating and kind. the only inconvenience was parking. The continental breakfast was just what you'd expect; yogurt, baked goods, cereal and of course coffee - we were satisfied. Overall the stay was great, no complaints (and im usually a complainer!)

Overall Olympia lodge is a great place to stay, but has limited amenities. The pool happen to be closed when we were there. Great proximity to some of the best beaches in Pacific Grove. We did not get a chance to try it, but we heard the free continental breakfast in the mornings were good, particularly for those staying with kids. The front desk and staff are very nice and helpful.
