Stayed there in late August 2012 for one night, slightly worn out furnishings although very roomy. The sofa-bed for the 3rd and 4th person was actual horrible! Check in was fast and friendly done by a nice lady but didn't like the manager (asian indian? with broken English). Breakfast was average, nothing special. Rate was USD 240,00 - afterwards I'm sure there are better deals in Pacific Grove. Would not stay there again.

These are coverted townhomes so was nice having two rooms, refrigerator, microwave and a nice continental breakfast with waffles, cereal, baked goods. Close to Asilomar Beach and closs to Pebble Beach and the Inn at Spanish Bay resort. Both are a must see...and have a drink and meal at if you are feeling spendy.
Cons are thin walls and no so soft towels but overall, not a bad place to stay and not spend a lot of money on. Staff was helpful and friendly. Was traveling with a baby, so was nice to have a real high chair in breakfast room. Would do again because of the large living space.

Room Tip: bypass the coffee in room and bring to go cups from home to get coffee at Breakfast room.

We had the 2 bedroom suite. The layout was a little odd. You enter into the king room with a table, two chairs, dresser, and tv. There is a door that leads to the queen room that has a tv, dresser, nice granite wet bar area with mini fridge, sink, micro, etc. The bathroom is down a hall off the queen room. There was a small balcony off the master area with two chairs on it.

The room had a kind of shabby chic feel to it. The bathroom hadn't been Updated but it was very clean with good water pressure. The tvs were newer.

But the beat part of the room were the beds and linens. I have stayed in rooms over $500 a night and the beds were never this good! The sheets seemed new and looked like they had been ironed. The pillows were plentiful and very comfy. My friend said the same great things about her queen bed in her room.

We reserved a 2BR suite instead we had a living room with a king bed and a small "bedroom" with a queen. The rooms are separated by a very thin wall. The bathroom is in the bedroom.

There is not really an area for us to sit since there are only two wooden chairs. I know this is a Howard Johnson not a Ritz but I can't believe they falsely advertised the suite on their website.

The biggest problem I had with this hotel was the strong curry smell in our room and the hallway. Will not stay here again.

I booked this hotel after reading the positive reviews here. The hotel is the worst I've ever stayed. We arrived at 11:00 PM and the office was locked. Right, no lobby, just a small office for check in check out. After a while, a woman showed up to check us in. We had a 2-br suite. The rooms were old, dirty and smelly. Everything must be original from 1970's or earlier. House keeping is horrible too.

Except for the location, which is right next to the 17-mile drive entrance, I can recommend nothing of this hotel. $199 per night is a rip-off.

We stopped off at the Howard Johnson Inn for a 1night stay after driving up from the 17mile Dr from Carmel. We had 4 adults and in a Suite which had 2 seperate bedrooms. The suite was clean, quiet, and had a cabin feel to it with high ceilings much like the pictures. Good parking with either outdoor or open garage. Beds were very comfortable and bathrooms clean. The area around the hotel did not seem that over appealing but regardless we had a good stay. If I was to stay for a few more days I would probably choose an alternate hotel mainly due to the location and area surroundings.

Total cost of four nights was $387.46 and it was worth it.Booking on TripAdvisor got me a very good rate. I parked in an open garage below my room. I had a king sized pillow top bed, huge walk in closet with mini fridge, coffee maker and microwave oven. There was a combination safe that could be used to lock up my valuables in the closet area. Outdoor patio/balcony had two plastic chairs on it and was overlooking a jogging path with a view to the West towards the ocean. Wood beamed ceilings, a fan over the bed, double sink in the bathroom with a hairdryer. The tub was big(I really liked its size) with a window that could pull down a bit to let the steam out. Shower/tub with an imprint on the surface of the tub so no bathmat was needed in the tub. Breakfast room with bagels, coffee, orange juice, apple juice, fruit, waffle machine with syrup, milk, several types of cereal. I was placed up a couple flights of stairs in the "treetop" room which suited me just fine. Very quiet, very peaceful, very lovely. I have stayed at about 5-6 different hotels in Pacific Grove and this was by far the nicest. Ice machine down in the parking lot with vending machines. Wi Fi available but I did not use it. Manager was nice. Hotel staff and maids were great. Free newspaper every morning. I saw a washer/dryer on premises in one of the garages that could be used to do clothes if needed. I really liked this place. My friend stayed at the Deer Haven nearby and this place was way superior in cleanliness, peacefulness and all around quality. Loved it. Loved it. Loved it. Exterior of each building has flowers. I liked my privacy and the cleanliness of my third floor walk up but if one is handicapped, get a downstairs place. Short walk to the beach through Asilomar State Park and its boardwalk.
