“Service and Amenities All Going Downhill!”
Reviewed 30 August 2013

Our family went here every year for the past five years, but NO MORE! This hotel has never been clean, but the ownership is clearly cutting back on what little amenities they did have to make up for that. They have a breakfast, but they used to include a poolside BBQ dinner- even though the website we reserved our room through said they still had that, when we got there they had nixed it, and said it's not their job to make sure reservation website have accurate info. We were counting on that as one of our meals for each of the 4 days we were there (there were six of us) and were not prepared to make that up out of pocket. Did they comp us? NO! The carpets can only be described as "gummy", and they CLEARLY don't was the covers ever. Our curtains had snot and blood on the backside of the blackout curtain- SWEET.... The pool was cloudy, ands both the pool and jacuzzi had leaves in them- I had to clean them myself. Never ever going there again. Hopefully they will lose enough business that they have to sell to new owners who take cleanliness seriously.

The lady at the front desk on arrival was friendly and welcoming. We had 2 rooms booked with a rollaway for each. When we got into our rooms we discovered they overlooked the cemetery, we asked to change and she was very happy to arrange this for us. The rooms are tired and very worn, although clean. The curtains were ripped and the blackout curtains had so many holes in that they no longer work as blackout! The beds were very uncomfortable, I kept rolling into the middle of the bed during the night. The rollaways had plastic covers on the mattresses and were also incredibly uncomfortable. The rooms were dark, phones didn't work and the walls are paper thin.
Breakfast was awful, very basic, tables left dirty, only 1 cereal, scrambled eggs and roast potatoes. The bananas were over ripe and brown. I have a particular hatred of disposables for meals and so this added insult to injury.
I would not stay there again.

Very limited TV. No in room movies. No in room telephones. All three phones were dead. Tried to watch a movie and none were available.. The front desk said they had just upgraded the tv.. Sorry was the response from the front desk.

I stayed here for three nights for the local Monterey Car Week and first off it was busy due to this major event but considering the "crowd" it was VERY quiet!! Now getting to the location was a tiny bit confusing since there are two different locations but one is just the cottages and the other is the actual lodge. Once I got to the right place checking in was a breeze! The staff was VERY friendly and quick. There is free wifi which is great since there isn't much signal since we are close to the ocean. Also there is a golf course nearby for people who want to play during your stay.
The room was on the bottom floor but it still felt very safe and quiet. First impressions of the room seemed a tiny bit dated and the fan for the bathroom seemed to be on its last leg but the room was a great size with a small desk, microwave, good size TV and a fridge. What was a surprise was I had a balcony/patio area with two seats and a table. It was completely open and even though the view was of a cemetery it still was a nice view. Also within the first 20 mins of sitting outside two deer walked by. The room above us was a little loud but it was only during the day. The beds were just OK but I slept just fine with no problems. Also the moments when its quiet you can hear the ocean in the distance.
The breakfast area was a great size next to the pool so there was a nice view while you eat. Food wise was many choices with someone always there (who was friendly) to refill everything throughout the time.
The Lighthouse Lodge & Cottages is a great place to stay if you don't need or don't want to be around the local tourist areas. I will keep this place in mind next time I am planning a trip to the area again

I booked this because it was the only place I could find available on 3 days notice. I know why. This place is run-down and poorly maintained. There was NO thermostat in the room and had to try and keep on top of temperature with a heater in the wall, and the room was cold for our entire stay, the window curtains were worn and dirty, as was the carpet. The old style comforter and pillows just looked nasty. This place is very pricey for what you get. I should note half the rooms look over a cemetery. On the good side the location is fantastic, its very quiet and within walking distance to Lovers Point as well as Asilomar beach.

Room Tip: Try to book @ the borg or lovers point inn. Both looked in good repair and great location!

My family (me, husband and 3 small kids) and I stayed here this past weekend. We were with two other families. We rented a junior cottage, which was the biggest I could get without springing for the $900/night house. Let's just start by saying it wasn't a cottage. It was a large hotel room with a partition. The room was very clean but the furnishings were dated. The light switches didn't correspond to the fixtures they were near and I had to call the front desk so they could walk me through the sequence of switches to turn on the dimmers in the bedroom. The bathtub (an old jacuzzi tub) leaked and there was damage to the wall. The mini kitchen consisted of a bar sink, a small microwave and a mini fridge. We were unable to use the freezer section of the fridge because the door was gone.

The good news is the location is excellent. A block from the ocean and near a neat lighthouse. You can walk to downtown or the tide pools. We enjoyed the daily morning complimentary breakfast too. That was definitely a plus. The scenery is beautiful and the grounds of the hotel are nice. We used the pool a couple times which our kids enjoyed. We were told there is new management as of a couple weeks ago. I hope they do some needed repairs and updating. This could be a real treasure.

My friend booked this room over the phone and was told that the cottages were recommended over the rooms because they " were all renovated". Going online and checking out the hotels website, it certainly seemed that was the case. Then we get there. NOT renovated .... Unless a TV from 1999, grungy carpeting and dark wood paneling is renovated. Our bathroom window was broken and there was dog poop in our " private" patio area which was basically a plastic chair outside the rear sliding door. The best part was the fire pit on the common patio - except late at night, when people were still partying right outside our door - Room 306. The provided breakfast is not " chef" prepared - I witnessed half the food put on the plate pre-made. This is an adequate place to bring the family, just don't have any illusions that it is a luxury property.

Room Tip: This property does not have an ocean view from the cottage rooms.
