Location was perfect but the room itself did not meet expectations. The drapes were falling down, heat did not work, one large sliding door only had a sheer drape over it which did not give us any privacy. Size of the room was fine and we appreciated the wifi. Breakfast each morning was okay. Especially glad to have the coffee. In my mind, I thought a Lodge would be a large building with indoor hallways to rooms. These were actually separate buildings with 8 rooms to a building and everything opened to the outdoors more like a motel than a lodge.

A little background--We purchased this room on priceline for the dates April 11-13, 2014 at the rate of $177 per night. It was advertised as a 3-star property on priceline (and on trip advisor and expedia) which priceline specifically describes as a "really nice independent hotel" on par with national chain brands such as the Hyatt, Four Points, or Double Tree.

First, let's start with the good. It's clean, and it's in a nice, safe location just a block or so from the beach. The open-beamed ceiling gave the tiny room a more open feeling. The staff was pleasant. The bed was comfortable, and it was quiet. At a minimum, I was thankful to not be sleeping in the car.

Now, the not so good. The room is very tiny--barely big enough to hold the queen bed contained in it. If you are a couple traveling with 2 carry-on size suitcases, you will not have enough space to store the suitcases. We just kept our suitcases in the trunk of our car. All of the furniture is very cheap, old, chipped, laminate, faux wood, particle board that is of a circa 1970's style and has definitely seen better days. For example, the mirror in the bathroom had chips all over it (and not in a shabby chic way). The room had a slightly moldy/mildewy smell which could cause allergy-sensitive individuals migraine headaches. The TV was a very small, circa 20th century cathode ray tube TV. (Granted, we came to this area to enjoy the outdoors, but the average traveler would expect something much better.) The water in the "heated" pool was very cold and not usable. We did not see anybody in it. (The pool issue was very important to us because we like to swim in a pool when we are on vacation).

Simply put, I am shocked that this hotel has any good reviews b/c I have stayed in nicer Motel 6s. If this room had been advertised as a 1 star and we had paid well under $100 for this room, I would not be writing this article. However, as you can see from the description above, this is definitely not a 3 star hotel. It is an absolute fraud to advertise it as such. Also, and most importantly, I gave the manager on duty this review before I posted it to tripadvisor to allow them the opportunity to remedy the situation. If they had remedied the situation, I would not have posted this here. They blamed the issue on priceline (even though trip advisor and expedia also advertise it as a 3-star), and they declined to remedy the situation. I strongly urge trip advisor, expedia, and priceline to send a representative back to this hotel to reassess it and decrease its rating to a 1-star.

Room Tip: Do not recommend at all.

We recently stayed at the Lighthouse Lodge in Pacific Grove. We hadn't been in the area for a while and they were quiete ameneble on the phone and gave us a great rate with an AARP discount for what was listed as a CABIN SUITE. We had stayed here a few years ago and considered it at that time to be a first class hotel.

First of all it is not a cabin as it is connected to other units with 4 in a row. So do not expect a separate cabin if you rent this type of room. The Suite is really a large ceilinged room with a small patio which faced the road about 6 feet from our door. There are no amenities that make it special except for a nice gas fireplace. i have not been in very many hotel rooms that don't have someplace to sit besides the bed and maybe a small table, but this is one of them unless you want to sit on a small backless bench that tucks under a shelf against the wall. No table. So the room looks huge and is because there is nothing in it except the bed.

The bed was quite comfortable but they still are using the old type bedspreads that most hotels have done away with. The first thing to do is pull it back or completely take it off so as not to sit on it. Never sit on a hotel bedspread. Anyone who travels at all knows this.

The room also had some maintenance issues. The screen door to the patio was broken(and you certainly could not leave the door open anyway because it was so close to the road. There was also an issure with a large wooden peice on the floor that separtated the entry from the rug. It was missing a screw and we tripped once or twice before knowing to be careful how we walked.
We did report these issues before we left but the desk person seemed entirely disinterested.

They do provide a nice cooked breakfast as part of your stay. Very good and very nice service.
There is also a wine and snack table provided in the evening.

The firepits were not lit in the evening on the large shared patio but that may be becuase it was a weekday.

All in alll I would say go if you just want a place to stay in the area and are not looking for fancy.

The location is great, just a couple of blocks from Asilomar State Beach, where you can walk along the trail and watch the waves crashing over the rocks. You can see an occasional otter diving and feeding on its back. There are sea lions barking and lots of birds.

As for the accomodations, they are adequate, but a little tired. Our room was large and quiet. It had only one sink, but the shower was good. It is easy to get scalded in the shower, because the water is SO hot. We had a fridge and microwave.

The breakfast buffet is very basic, nothing special.

We stayed at the Lighthouse Lodge and Cottages several years ago. We loved everything about it and everyone is super friendly. This place is conveniently located, yet it is super quiet and peaceful. You can take a nice walk to the water, which is wonderful! We brought our bikes and loved riding them around and rode them on most of the 17 mile drive.

Me and my family stay here once a year, around February. This is the perfect location for a family trip, if your expecting the Ritz try again, however walking 5 min to the beach and 5 min drive to cannery row is unbeatable. this is a pet friendly hotel so if your allergic or don't like dogs don't stay here, but we have four dogs and we didn't mind. the staff was very helpful thank you Jason in Reservations. the room is a nice Double Double and they have an ok breakfast included with your rate. we had such a blast out in Monterey.

Every spring, our group of friends holds a long-weekend reunion somewhere between LA and SF. After much searching for a location that would accommodate our large group (20 adults and 4 young children), I am so happy that we found the Lighthouse Lodge and Cottages. We rented the Cottage residence and 8 cottages (which are more like condos.) Everyone was so pleased with the location and the service. Having hot breakfast included meant that everyone could wake up on their own schedule. The Cottage Residence was the perfect place for group dinners, marathon board games, and talking late into the night without waking the little ones. The location was perfect: just a block from the beach, walking distance to the butterfly sanctuary, and a 10 minute drive to the Monterey Aquarium and Cannery Row. The staff at the Lighthouse was helpful in coordinating our group and even measured the distance between the Residence and the nearest cottages to ensure that baby monitors would work. Thanks to the Lighthouse Lodge and Cottages, our annual reunion was a huge success and we hope to be back again in the future.

Room Tip: Ask for a map of the cottage property to better choose your room.
