“Nice location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2014

Quick walk to the shoreline and lighthouse. Stayed in the junior suite and the room was nice. What kept us from a "5" were the stains on the carpet or the carpet pattern that looked like stains. The room otherwise was clean and quiet. There has been refurbishing so the carpet issue may be moot. The morning breakfast was delightful and the evening wine social was very nice. There are fire rings to sit and enjoy the evening.

Yep, we are here for a night , took a chance on the name your price option on Priceline and thought we were getting an upscale room but it was the lodge. Totally deceptive! Run down rooms with old furniture, painting needed, the pool was not heated, jacuzzi had green water. How can they keep getting away with this??? Cheap pool furniture, haggard plants, dirty everywhere, no shampoo , or tea in room.Bed is good, and walk to ocean is nice, other than that, forgetaboutit .

The on-line photos of this place look amazing, but those are taken at the Cottages, not the Lodge. We stayed at the Lodge. Kind of Motel-8 with comfy beds. Breakfast was a disappointment with scrambled eggs, white and wheat toast, bananas, apples, juice, raisin brand and corn flakes. The dining area is run down. After I did more research, I found out that for $8 per person, we could have breakfast across the street at the Cottages. Entrees choices include French toast, eggs Benedict, Denver Omelette, Pancakes, etc. There is fresh fruit salad, bagels, cereal and hot oatmeal. The dining room is more like a B&B with tables that seat 8, cloth napkins and wait staff. A significant upgrade from the Lodge breakfast.
Our room was quiet for the most part when the baby next door wasn't crying. Our view was of a quiet park with a cemetery. For less than $200 it was worth it, but I wish I knew about the breakfast at the Cottages when I checked in.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the Cottages

My family stayed for one night, and we enjoyed it. Rooms clean, food good, and you can hear the ocean. The only thing I am requesting is a screen door on the slider for the back door. are favorite part was how close we were near the Lighthouse and the ocean.

We were excited to books this hotel again. Orbitzs shows only the cottage property photos, so you assume you are booking a room in the cottages. When we arrived at the hotel we were told that they, the hotel, could assign you to any room. I expressed how upset I was because the lodge property is equal to a Motel 6. The hotel front desk stated they had no control over the picture that Orbitz places on their website??? As a business person I would never advertise a false product to potential customers. I had to spend 3 hours on the phone, at check-in, to get Orbitz to refund our money. As we booked the hotel on the first weekend in August 2014, Pacific Grove was completely booked. We had to drive around for an hour to find another hotel. We found a room at The Monarch Resort. They were so friendly and shared with us that we were the 3rd couple in 3 weekends that the Lighthouse Lodge and Cottages used the bait and switch photos. After reading more reviews this is a constant compliant from people that have booked this hotel. After speaking with Orbitz they stated that the hotel chooses their photos. The cottages make the hotel 3 stars but the lodge is a 1 star, so it is very unfair to customers to say that it is a 3 star hotel.

The hotel is below average. Not worth the price they charge. Stayed in a room that was nicely decorated, although old. It could be charming if things were taken care of. Part of the wall paper was peeling. The drain did not work properly. There is no air conditioning which was not a problem the first night but the second night was warmer and it was very uncomfortable. The windows do not open and you are left with the sliding doors as your only option. These do not lock and the screen doors were broken so the bugs get in. I thought from other reviews that you could see the ocean and had a nice view. There was no view and though the rooms had a nice little patio, it overlooks trees and the cemetery. The staff was friendly and they got a fan one of the nights because it was too hot to sleep.
The beds were comfortable and the grounds are kept well. They had a free breakfast served from 7:30 to 9:30. I can't comment on that because I missed it but it is nice that they offer it. Overall, it was not horrible but I would not stay again.

I was expecting a nightmare after reading the reviews but I am happy to say, we loved everything about our stay. The front desk people were terrific and let us pick from 3 rooms after I expressed concern about cleanliness (thanks to the reviews). The room we chose was clean and roomy, it was quiet and the bed was super comfortable. Housekeeping was awesome and even changed the sheets again for us after our dog got on the bed while we were out. We didn't even have to ask. People here even complained about the breakfast for some reason. It was one of the better complimentary breakfasts I've had. The location is wonderful also, being within walking distance to the beach and nudged up against a cemetery where a family of deer roam. There's also a nice path to walk the dog. We will definitely stay here again and I may not take other people's reviews so seriously next time because I almost changed Hotels after reading them. Lighten up, folks.

Room Tip: Ask to look at a few if they're available.
