We stayed here one night and it was a treat! Very clean, comfortable, nice bed, great to have a fireplace, good location, friendly staff. Great place to stay, especially after a very long drive. It was nice to be able to walk to the beach; and the staff was helpful with recommendations, maps, etc.

The shower was like wow! This was a last minute reservation and I am so pleased. The desk clerk was so helpful too. She gave us great recommendations for dinner, the FishWife, a nice walk to the beach and info on Carmel.

Upon walking into the room the room looked like the pictures however the room was over 80 degrees. We quickly realized there was no AC. We then wanted to open the windows only to discover there were no screens except in the bathroom and that one was so dirty you could not see through it. When we spoke to the property manager we were told that none of the rooms have air conditioning. We were advised to open thewindows. When we said there were no screens we were told none of the rooms had screens because they don't have a bug problem. (The tree outside our room did have plenty of bees.) Once back at the room we noticed the bottom of the door had mold growing all the way across. Thankfully the second day it was cloudy and so with the fan we had bought at a local store we were able to keep the room cool.
In the morning we went to have breakfast only to discover that breakfast was a few types bread with a community jar of peanut butter and nutella and a few containers of yogart.
We will not be staying there again!!!

Thank You for your review. We'd like to remind you that most properties in Pacific Grove do not have AC's since the temperature rarely gets above the 60's. Lastly, please note that if a guest is truly this dissatisfied they should checkout immediately and not stay the second night. We still value your comments and will look into the items you've mentioned.

We stayed here for one night to celebrate our anniversary. The room was clean and comfortable, the hostess helpful and accommodating, and the short walk to the beach was a nice treat.

We enjoyed our one night stay at Sunset Inn. We had a lovely room which was huge. The bathroom was roomy and the shower sublime. Pacific Grove is very close to Monterey and all of the attractions there, but the shore at PG is one of the most beautiful we have ever seen. CAUTION - our GPS would not take us to the Sunset Inn, but Barbara stood outside and directed us in. The Sunset Inn blends so well with the beautiful surrounding area it is almost invisible. No neon lights here. Dinner recommendations by Barbara were excellent - may have been the best meal we had on our California trip.

My husband and I stayed here on the advice of my daughter who had stayed here a couple of months ago. She absolutely was in love with the place! My husband and I have to agree. It does not get any better then this! The location is within a stones throw of some of the most pristine beach area there is. And to top it off, they even have a trolley that runs from morning until around dinnertime that picks you up outside the Sunset Inn and takes you down through beautiful Pacific Grove to Fisherman's Wharf, the Aquarium, museum, Cannery Row etc. And it's FREE! My one and only regret was that we were here only for a couple of days. We will be back!

Room Tip: Get a room with the fireplace. It is is quite chilly and foggy here in the upper tip of the Monterey...

We picked this place as it was rated number one on Tripadvisor. We got a great deal on Expedia, paid 119 per room which beat the advertised AAA rate at the hotel of 129 dollars. It was definitely worth the price that we paid, and I felt like we got an awesome deal. The hotel is situated about one block from the beautiful rocky coastal area of Pacific Grove. You can walk there in two minutes. It is such a lovely spot, on a quiet residential street, filled with other hotels and homes. The area is upscale but approachable. Very nice people everywhere.

Across from the hotel is an amazing public golf course that is rated highly by Golf magazine, and you can play for less than fifty dollars. You can walk along the ocean here all the way to Monterey. It takes about an hour to walk over there, but it's a delightful walk. You are within walking distance of downtown PG. I loved walking over there. The beach views are comparable to Carmel and Cambria on Moonstone Beach. It truly is a magical spot.

The hotel was very clean, newly renovated and remodeled. I enjoyed it. The bed was comfortable, shower was nice, and parking was ample. We felt that the value of the hotel was very good. The breakfast was good and the front desk clerk or owner, I'm not sure which, was very nice. The only negative thing I have to say about this hotel is that it is a bit noisy. Not from the outside, but from the inside. You can hear your neighbors talking through the walls, and the water is very loud when it runs in the shower and in your neighbor's shower. I could not sleep in here as I was woken up by my neighbor's who were talking in their room. Next time I would stay here, however I would not forget to bring my ear plugs. The walls are very thin. Don't let this keep you from missing this little gem on the coast.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the end so that you only share one wall with other guests
