Marriott's Shadow Ridge II- The Enclaves
Ranked #10 of 23 Hotels in Palm Desert
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 18 May 2014

This was a great place to spend the week. As with most Marriott's the customer service we experienced during our stay the week of May 11th was top notch.

Stayed at the Enclaves, villa overlooked the 15th hole. Pleasant views 24/7! We had coffee on our patio every morning and enjoyed the stillness of the day. Loved the appliances, they suited our needs just fine. The kitchen came equipped with a blender and an automatic ice maker in the freezer, made some quick frozen cocktails in the mid day after a few hours at the pool.

They had out pool cards at the front desk when you check in. If you and another person are heading to the pool make sure you take two cards. They make no exceptions if you want another towel (one towel does not cover the lounge chair well enough for our needs). While this is a cost saving measure we were happy to oblige. If you run out of pool cards (we did on Day 3) , just head to the front desk and they will give you more.

If you are looking to have your room serviced the room attendants would make their way to our area around 3pm-5pm. So if you are looking to get your room serviced earlier you may want to make a request at the front desk to see if they can assist with your request. We would just exchange towels every two days and have them empty our trash.

The villas came equipped with a washer and dryer.

We arrived late at night due to issues with our aircraft out of two cities. When we got there the front desk staff could feel our pain. All we wanted was a place to hang our head. They were so pleasant to talk to and said to us "You arrived safely and are here with us so enjoy"...which is what we needed to hear at that time. Yes, we are on vacation so chill!

They also have a physical fitness "jungle gym" for adults in the back of the Enclaves. We used it most of the mornings. It was fun to see if we could do an extra set of squats or one more pull up than the day before. Great way to stay motivated while on vacation.

I just wish there were more walking trails. We did a no-no and ventured out onto the golf course. We were escorted off the cart path shortly there afterward. One note to the hotel, while I understand it's for safety (for us not to use the golf cart path) could you perhaps have more walking trails near by? While the resort was not too busy during the week walking in the road just didnt seem to safe for us, especially on the busy weekends when some cars seem to speed at the light of sound compared to others. One road had a marking "Walking/Jogging Path" but that was all. There is some remodeling going on so part of one road is tight with cars.

This was a great resort to unwind and recharge the batteries. Got to love the desert heat where you can have a glass of ice and no condensation develops while enjoying natures vitamin D (with a SPF 50 lathered on your body course).

We went to this resort at the perfect time. The high season started to wind down so the resort was quiet during the week. We didnt mind the 100 degree days at all! Pleasant change from our winter of 2013-2014. Just wish we could have brought that weather back with us in our luggage.

Room Tip: High floors have no covering on the patio, lower floors have no guards so you may get the occasional...

This is a beautiful property from the moment you drive onsite. AND it is HUGE! We stayed in a small villa in the new section - The Enclaves. The rooms are brand new and spacious for three people, with a full-size refrigerator. The pull-out bed was perfect for our daughter and we could close a sliding door for privacy for us. My only complaint to the room was there isn't much counter space for cooking, but I made it work. They have EVERYTHING you would need to cook with though...and I mean EVERYTHING. I was impressed! We did not eat in the main dining room and brought food in to cook for breakfast and lunch. They have a walk in (beach style) pool. It is fantastic and is great for little kids under five. The property has a beautiful golf course and ponds. One day the slide wasn't working, but that happens. My only complaint was the check-out time was at 10:00 instead of 12:00 like most hotels are. They said it was because they aren't a full-service hotel, but I don't know I thought it could have at least have been at 11:00. With everything there is to do here, it would have been nice to have had a little more time here. We would definitely return!

Note: THIS Is a time-share property and while NO ONE tried to sell me on a timeshare, someone did leave a message on my room voicemail about it. I just deleted it.

Room Tip: If you want to stay by the pool, but you don't want to be right in front of it with all the nois...

This is a very large property that is surrounded by a beautiful golf course, ponds, walking trails, palm trees and several pools. In the clubhouse is a bar/restaurant - Nick Faldo's - which makes a great first night stop as we settle in. Many of the units have full kitchens, so we do a lot of the cooking ourselves and save the dinners out for our favorites that we only get to when we're in the desert. We've stayed in the newer areas - The Enclaves - and the older areas - The Villages. All are well appointed with patios or decks, fully-stocked kitchens and amenities you'd expect from Marriott. There is pool-side service with lunch and bar. This is one of our favorite places to stay and is well-located - only a short drive to El Paseo and the Albertson's where we do our shopping. We've stayed there as a couple and as a family and everyone has always enjoyed their time.

Huge property. Not much for eating amenities (dining-almost none, room service-absolutely none). On property dining room in main building has a flustered staff, average food, slow service. Many highlights of the property that are so hyped in the literature are somewhat disappointing in real life (movie theater, activities, some of the pool, activity center). For some reason, this property just falls short on many fronts. It needs some spark it is really missing. We got a great last minute deal, so I'm not disappointed with value. It was just that the property lacked luster and life. The check in desk staff was very helpful and efficient. The concierge was a young woman and I found her very impatient, dismissive and almost snotty. Again, there was just something missing in our stay. Not as impressed as I thought I'd be.

We stayed here over MLK weekend for a Lacrosse tournament. I wish we would have had more time at the resort. We stayed in a two bedroom villa which is a studio combined with a 1 bedroom villa which suited us perfectly! There were tons of activities, unfortunately we didn't get to partake in any. The room was upgraded and beautiful. Full sizer washer and dryer came in handy. Only thing that should be improved is the pull out sofa... It was Awful! The food at The Grill was good not great. Good by the pool was also ok. This isn't a place for foodies but is fine fid families. The property could be better lit at night it can get hard to see driving around at night. All in all we'd come back with our family in a heartbeat!

Shadow Ridge is a top notch property. We stayed in a 2 bedroom where the second bedroom had two dbl beds which was great for my two daughters. The rooms are well appointed with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. There was still some construction of new units while we were there but it did not affect our stay. The grounds, pools and golf course are excellent. There were quite a number of activities each day on the schedule but unfortunately we were only staying 3 nights so we where not able to partake. We stayed at Shadow Ridge as hotel guests and of course the property is a timeshare so expect at least one sales pitch, to be fair they were not too pushy.
