“Great place to stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2014

Great resort. 6 heated pools, water slide for kids, restaurants, basketball, mini golf, sand voleyball, kids activities all day long.

Food is a little too expensive and the room walls or pretty thin, but the resort makes up for it.

We stayed here for a quick golf weekend get away. We shared our room with some friends, the layout of the suite is nicely planned. Great privacy for everyone. Living & kitchen space has a nice open plan.It really is a home away from home,it has everything you need.
It is a big complex, but they do offer shuttle service to get around. The pool area that we were near is nice, kept clean and offer a small bar / takeout food service.
The food is pretty good and not over priced, which was a nice surprise.
The staff were very friendly & pleasant.
They offer lots of different activities for all ages throughout the resort. Very family oriented.
we would definitely come back!

For comparison, this is a Waiohai level property but it is no where near as nice. The place is swarming with kids and that includes the restaurant (Grille) and they are definitely loud. Our locks were changed without notification; the elevator broke down; we had an unauthorized intruder (staff) in our room and security could not explain nor tell us who violated the "Do Not Disturb" request on the door. The vastness of the place is like a gigantic dormitory. Management brushed us off and that was that. Next time Flipkey or Homeaway for us! Marriott has let us down for the last time.

Room Tip: If you don't want kids and noise ask for a remote location

This property has it all!!!!!!!. We have 4 children, and they always love coming back to this property... Easy, fun, and lots to do.

As a senior reviewer I will share with you some helpful things to to know. This is also the 3rd Marriott Vacation Club that we have stayed at, and it is our favorite...so far. We are not Marriott Vacation Club owners, but we do love to stay at their properties. Shadow Ridge is the most well thought out property that we have stayed at. We have stayed here 4 times now.

If you reserve at Shadowridge, here are a few helpful things to know. -

Look at the map. You reserve either at the Villages or the Enclaves. Both are great, but if you can view the property on-line, it will help you decide the location that you wish to reserve your room. They are also adding on to this property. It's huge, but great.

There offer 1 and 2 bedroom villas. This is what makes Marriott Vacation Club stand out among the best. You can't beat the price of the villas, and they are worth reserving. Depending upon the time of the year, you can get them at incredibly reasonable prices. $200 -$400 ....they can go as high as $800 per night during a peak season, but normal prices are in that lower range. --- I don't work for Marriott, so don't quote me on prices. These were the rates during our spring break.

We stayed during spring break and our rooms were in the $400 per night range for the 2 bedroom Villa. The 2 bedroom Villa can sleep up to 8 persons. It has 2 pull out couches, 2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, a kitchen, 2 balconies, washer and dryer, dishwasher, micorwave, oven, and a sitting area, plus 3 t.v.'s (1 per bedroom, plus sitting room). The kids loved their room; it had its own mini-kitchen. So, fun for them to stock their own refrigerator. Wii fi is also complimentary. BBQ's are throughout the property.

Here are the many things that this property offers to families.
4 pools - 2 at the Main pool, Enclave pool, and adult pool.
The main pool also has a toddler pool, and a slide
The enclave has a beach type pool entry - where it slowly wades into a deeper regular pool.
Pools all have food and beverage service, along with fireplaces and activities that enhance the overall expeience. Both pools also have spouting water features for kids..(buckets of water that drop on kids, etc.)

Kids Club is at Main Pool - The Mirage
Ping pong, shuffle board, pool table
wii/xbox - video games
movie theater - and movie nights at the pool too.
crafts, cooking, snow cones, smores, etc.
painting, sand art, necklace making,

Resort Activities ---- most of any property that we have stayed at
Tennis
Golf and golf academy
2 fitness gyms
fitness classes - yoga, personal training, cardio, hip hop etc. (per schedule)
2 Outside Basketball courts
1 Sand Volleyball Court
Bike Rentals

Restaurant - The Grill
Mini market/ Starbucks - near main lobby

DYLANS CANDY STORE - in mini market (big treat for the kids)

OK so here is what you need to know ..................

When you reserve, you need to know that it is a large property. The buildings are typically 3 story and they offer elevators. I prefer to be on the ground floor. You are encouraged to request if you wish ground, 2nd or 3rd floor and even the area that you prefer. If you want those balcony doors to open up on to the grass, request ground floor. If you don't care about that and prefer the views of the 2nd and 3rd floor, that great too. Enclaves are the 4300, 4400, 45000 bulidings and also construction is going on for addition to that area of the property to expand it even more. Village is the area in and around the Main pool.

Villages is central to main the pool
Enclaves is newer and toward the back. It has the beach pool
Both have full bar, pool service, food/beverage and fire places.

Walking is part of the experience....bring your walking shoes
The property has Shuttle service to help get around. Our kids are 10 -17 and they hopped on and off the shuttle to go from the main pool to the encave pool. You can pick up any phone on property to call for shuttle service.

We think that this property has it all. It is great for kids of all ages and great to travel with several families together.--- lots of space and central to great restaurants and activities in the area.

Marriott Customer Service and attention to detail was impressive
....We did have a few issues that caused frustration. However, I was very impressed with the Marriott Management and customer service. We all know that things can come up. That's life. Kindness goes along way. I want to share my experience so that you can appreciate how management addressed it. There was an internal glitch with our reservation when we reserved with Marriott initially. The 2 bedroom villa we reserved, was actually reserved as a 1 bedroom. By the time, we noticed this, it was 2 days prior to our check in and the room rates and availabilty had changed drastically during that time. Marriott management and customer service was able to address it on their end and resolve it without us having to deal with it. Our family of 6 wasn't going to be able to stay in a 1 bedroom with 1 bed. -- But Marriott was able to fix this prior to our check in.
Also, there had been another issue at the property prior to our check in that delayed our check in until almost 6 pm on the day of our arrival......once again - we were gracious and Marrotts housekeeping had a beautiful gift basket awaiting us apoligizing for any inconvenience.

I want to personally recognize 1 individual who had OUTSTANDING Customer Service.... He made the difference in our stay and experience. Although he was in Florida, he was addessing our room issue .....all the way to Shadow Ridge in California. We really appreciated how much he made the effort to make sure that our room situation was corrected prior to our check-in. All Employees should have his standard of excellence and professional courtesy that he bestowed upon us while we were vacationing in Califorina. Thank you so much Mr. Alonzo R. Petty, Marriot Manager, Customer Care.

You will have a great time if you decide to stay at this property.....If you have never been to Palm Desert, CA you need to know that it is 100+ degrees from May to September.

Room Tip: Buildings are 3 story. Request ground floor, 2nd or 3 rd floor - elevator service available Enclave...

This is a nice property in the Marriott chain. My three year old loved the pools and playground, and the children's centre was huge, well equipped and well run. We had a fantasic view of the mountains with unbelievable sunsets. Definitely request something facing west. The property itself was a little far from everything, but driving anywhere we wanted to go was easy. The rooms are well done, with all the usual Marriott conveniences. Overall, enjoyed our stay.

This spring break trip to Palm Springs was the absolute best place to go for kids and family
girls 12 and 13 had so much fun and freedom at this place. The activities were wonderful for them and they met tons of school mates there. Its condos were ample sized and we never had to leave. there were pools in different areas and all were close by. Yes there was pool seating saved but so what? We got up early and got the spots we needed for being together as adults. The kids never hardly ever sat down there was so much to do.
It has everything. and there are these big travel mug cups you buy for 16.95 and you can get free refills on your icy soft drinks and even bring back next visit. Its a great experience. We loved it and are coming back. Its a family place!!!

Room Tip: We had a 1 bedroom and the kids used the sofa with great topper to make it comfortable. the beds we...

We just stayed here for a Spring Break getaway with the two 8-year-olds. I can see how someone might love it or hate it, depending on what kind of experience you're looking for.

First off, if you have kids that love to swim and do the kids' activities, either get a room in a building near the main pool (if possible) or bring scooters or bikes to get around. The property is huge, and it took us 20 minutes to walk to the front office this morning for coffee, no joke. When it's 95 degrees outside, you may not want to walk the 15 minutes to the pools from a far-away building. They do have a shuttle, but it only comes every 30 minutes. We ended up driving to and from the pool each time.

The pool ran out of towels today, several times. I guess they need more laundry capacity or something. People were frustrated when they couldn't get towels for their kids to dry off. The hotel issues each room 4 "towel cards", which are used to get 8 towels at the pool. According to the card, you must return all your assigned cards upon checkout, or you will be charged $25 per card. Not sure if that is enforced. Do people really steal these yellow/white striped towels?

Pool-side food was typical - a bit overpriced and not great. The line to order food was slow, with only one person taking orders and closing the window for a couple minutes after each order.

There were many activities for the kids. Painting, jewelry making, stuffed animal making ($25), etc. The craft activities cost $5-$25, depending on what they were making. My kids loved playing at the ping-pong and pool tables the most. The video games (Wii/XBOX) of course were a hit too.

One reason we chose this place was because it had a water slide. It does have one, but the kids were disappointed with the slow speed compared to others they've done at other hotels. Good for small kids I suppose.

We got a "guest room", which is smaller than the 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom units. MUCH smaller. I probably would have chosen the 1-bedroom if I'd known how small our room was going to be. Otherwise, the room was good and everything worked fine. I was told our building was just remodeled, and it looked like it. Some details were overlooked I think however. The bathroom door swung open by itself and was hard to close (was not hung correctly). The air conditioning was good, but a bit loud, probably due to the size of the room. The air vent is directly above the king bed in the room, and it was aimed completely straight ahead, so we REALLY felt the breeze when it kicked on. Because of this we were cold/hot/cold/hot all night long. The next day I climbed up and aimed some of the outer vents to the left and right, and it was much better.

Maybe it's unusual because it's Spring Break for many people, but there were TONS of people/kids at the pool and other areas. Crowded like Disneyland.

Overall we (especially the kids) had a good time.

Room Tip: Request near the pool if you want to swim, or you're in for a walk!
