My family and I stay at Marriott's Shadow Ridge for a week starting on the 4th of July. My family lives in San Diego so driving there took only 2 hours. We got there around 1pm and even though check in isn't until 4pm we where able to check in with no problems. As we drove to through the property to our room we knew this place was really nice, the grounds where well looked after. Because it was the 4th of July they had added security to make sure people didn't sneak on to the property to use the pools. Our room was in the 2200 building on the first floor. We stayed in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath with full kitchen and a golf course view. It was the perfect place for our family of 7, included my mother, father, my teenage brother, his friend, my son who is 6, my daughter who is 11 months old . The room was the a great size for all of us. My parents took the master bedroom with the spa tub in the room. I took the 2nd bedroom with a king size bed, pull out sofa, and wet bar mini fridge and microwave; which when not joined with the living room area is a studio. My brother and his friend got the pull out sofa in the living room. Plus 2 patios off the bedrooms. The living room/dining room/kitchen area was a really good size didn't fell crowded when we were all in there. Before we got there we called to see if they provide cribs they do not but do have pack and plays, but also have restaurant style high chairs. Which was good but I brought my own. The location couldn't have been more perfect we were in walking distance to 2 pools. We were closer to the pool at the enclaves so we used that one more. but not to far from the main pool. The pools at the enclaves was nice with warm water and wasn't as crowded as the main pool. The main pool at the enclaves was by the sand area and the other up a small set of steps. It had a cool sand area for the kids to make sand castles. But if didn't bring anything to play in the sand you were out of luck cause they don't provide any toys for that. It also had a cool water area for the kids and some adults to play in and spray people with. The people at the bar and towel pick up were very nice at both the enclaves pools and the main pool. The only con about the pools at the enclave was that there is no covered area to lounge out of the direct sun light. Well except the cabanas but they are really hard to get at any of the pools on the property. Now the main pool was a little farther from our room but we did go there a good amount of the time. The main pool had one large pool, a baby pool, and a pool where the water slide runs into. My son really enjoyed the water slide. This pool area has covered areas with misters which I greatly enjoyed. But again getting a cabana was impossible. We were told that people get up at 6:30am to get a cabana but the pool doesn't open till 8am. The food at the pool is good, and the prices not bad. The drinks at the bar are good but a little to pricey for me, on the last full day we were there they got a new drink menu and didn't get to try them. But we were able to save a lot of money by using the kitchen and cooking our own food. Right outside of the main pool area was there activity center, that place was very nice, with a nice staff. In there they have 2 TVs to play nintendo Wii, lots of board games, chess, and shuffle board. There is also an arcade that is rather expensive, ping pong were you pay for the ball and a pool table which you also pay for. There is also a small movie theater which shows good current movies a few times a day, on Saturdays they also have dive in movies at the main pool. There is more free stuff there then paid things which is good when your on budget. Also to add there is a half court basketball and miniature golf across the street from the main pool, they provide a basketball and golf clubs to use there you just check them out from the activity center. Around the resort there is barbecues for guest to use. Also to add they do have shuttles through out the resort to take you to different areas of the resort. The resort was in a good location, when you were in it you felt you where in your own world but once you leave your close to everything. There is Walmart not to far away to pick up anything you may have forgotten to bring and a mall to walk around to cool off from the desert heat.
We really enjoyed staying at this resort and would recommend to everyone. Especially San Diegans cause it's close enough to drive to before the kids get to cranky but still a getaway. My father had to work during the week but had no problem driving back up the next weekend. We usually take a vacation like this in Las Vegas but my father coming wouldn't have been worth it cause of the 12 hour drive back and forth. So any one looking for a good budget friendly family vacation come here you won't be disappointed. Trust me my mother has really high standards for the hotels she stays at and she didn't complain once.
One more thing I forgot to mention this is a timeshare property. But the staff doesn't pressure you to take their meetings.
