We did this attraction with friends and had a great day. Beautiful ride up the mountain and a great way to get a spectacular view of the area.

This is one of those DO NOT MISS attractions here in the desert. The rotating bucket gives everyone a view all the way to the top of the mountain so there is no need to worry about where you are standing upon boarding. remember that no matter how ungodly hot it is on the ground, the top of that mountain is always always always Cool .. sometimes snowy cold! The restaurant is very good also. Enjoy the view and hike around outside, just stay on the path or you might get lost on the mountain top!

Most of the reviews are right on the money! The tram itself is awesome - climbing two and a half miles in a rotating tram is awesome. Don't worry - the tram slowly turns, so you don't even notice it. On a 100 degree day in July, it was nice to hike in the San Jacinto mountains where it was 68 degrees. If you hike, PLEASE where hiking shoes or sneakers with grip. So many people were walking around with flip flops. Really?? You are in a desert walking in dirt, climbing rocks. We hiked the desert view trail which was relatively easy. Note that you will still need water even though it is cooler. We had to offer water to an older man who had to stop along the way as his family hiked unprepared. You can bring whatever you want in your backpack. There is a backpack check, but they are just checking for weapons.

Overall, this was a great experience!!! Don't miss out!

If in Palm Springs in July, you’ll want to escape the 110+ degree heat for at least one day. This is how you do it. The ride up and down is interesting, especially if you’re as afraid of heights as I am. I stood near the window, on the rotating platform for the way up, but sat in the middle, facing the cliff (and not the expanding airplane-like views) on the way down.

Once up there though, there is a Desert View Trail that is a must to take. One tip: have the right footwear (running shoes, hiking runners or anything with grip). Sandals, flip flops, even loafers/Toms won’t do to be comfortable on this hike. It is rocky, NOT stroller friendly, and deals with some pretty crazy cliffs if you’re travelling with younger children (I’d say under 7… I’d definitely not take my 4 year-old here and she’s a pretty good hiker).

There are 5 notches – some more interesting than others, but all provided a great view! Some of the trees and logs around are very interesting as well, and if you’re attentive, you’ll see a few lizards around! And it is about 30 degrees F cooler up there, so 80 degrees (26C) was a very comfortable temperature to do this kind of hike in.

The whole experience was very enjoyable. The walk back up the walkway to the tram is challenging if you’re not used to it. I saw an electric wheelchair be pushed up the hill, so the incline is pretty steep. There is an adventure centre and another shorter trail – we didn’t take those so don’t know what they provide. My guess is that they’re a little more family friendly.

Thank Wasfou

July 8th my husband and I stopped at the PS Visitors Center and the gentleman told us about the tram and that it's free to veterans in July so of course free meant my husband had to do it! We arrived at noon and bought ticket for 12:45. We bought a bottle of water from the cafe and sat out back under the minsters where it was cool and beautiful scenery. The system is very organized and boarding was quick and easy. The ride up is amazing. So beautiful as the car slowly turns so you stand still and experience a 360 view of the valley. Breathtaking beauty. It was a pretty clear day so the view seemed endless!! We made a reservation for lunch at The Pines and waited 30 minutes at the bar for a few cocktails, watched some soccer and chatted with others at the bar. Time passed quickly and when we returned to The Pines at 1:30 as instructed, they had a table for two waiting with an awesome view. Husband had blue cheese bacon burger and fries, I had grilled chicken beast club on ciabatta with fresh fruit cup. Both were very good. The berry sangria was also refreshing lovely, nice portion. After lunch we walked around the area and watched the movies about wildlife and hiking safety. Then the movie about how the tram was built. Really enjoyable. We couldn't hike because of my knee injury so we bought at shirt and headed back down. The tram runs about every 10 minutes. The ride down was just as amazing and we took many pictures. The ride over the towers is the best as the car sways a little and it's so funny to hear everyone hoop and holler. My husband is afraid of heights ... Hence the cocktails on top for liquid courage for the ride down. It must a have helped because he said the ride down was easier than up! We spent about 3 hours from start to finish. Wish we could have hiked a little as it is so beautiful!! Thanks to other trip advisor contributors for recommending this activity. It really is a MUST for any visit to Palm Springs. Especially in July when military travel for free!!!
