We have just returned from five days at Desert Sun Resort. The resort is beautifully maintained, the rooms are comfortable and well-appointed and the staff is attentive. However, there is one HUGE negative that results in my rating of only three stars – the “music” around the main pool.

In past years, the music piped into the speakers around the main pool has been Sirius/XM’s “The Bridge,” which plays soft rock and adult contemporary music and offers a wonderful and unobtrusive ever-changing background of 70s 80s and 90s hits such as The Eagles, Sting, Elton John, Steely Dan and James Taylor. Unfortunately, management has now abandoned this music source and replaced it with a two-hour in-house playlist of they-all-sound-alike hip-hop music that begins about lunchtime and repeats over and over and over all day. It’s unrelenting, and is anything but relaxing.

Desert Sun Resort attracts an upscale clientele who often stay for days at a time and typically spend their entire days around the pool in the desert sun. The first day the endlessly-repeating music is noticeable. The second day it is irritating, and by the third day it is excruciating.

The choice of music for 20-somethings is strange considering the resort’s guests are typically 40 years of age and up, and the endless repetition of a 2-hour playlist is much more suited to the inside of a fast-food restaurant than an upscale resort where guests spend entire days subjected to the music. The decision is even stranger because both the lobby and the restaurant have wonderful background music similar in nature to The Bridge, even though guests typically spend much less time in these areas.

My advice – enjoy Desert Sun, but if you plan to spend more than an afternoon by the pool, bring earplugs!

I am glad that you enjoyed your stay at the resort. We try to provide different music for our guests to enjoy. None of our music is taped or a playlist. We recently upgrade the volleyball pool music to XM Radio for Business because there were so many commercials on the regular XM Satellite. I am sorry that you did not enjoy it. Our manager tries to change the channel on request from guests. Also, we have three pools. The Spa pool has XM spa music and the Condo pool has no music so you have your choice of venue. I hope you will read this reply and revise your review since it is in error. Thank you.

Just back from a 10 day visit to the Desert Sun Resort. Weather was great even when skies cloudy. Everyone was either at pool, or if it got a bit windy, headed to hottub. The grounds keepers do an amazing job of keeping the grounds perfect. Friendly and helpful staff made our trip that much better. Till next time, wishing we were there!

This writeup is directed to all of you who have NEVER experienced a clothing optional/nudist resort or the nudist lifestyle. People who have, and especially those who have been to Desert Sun Resort, know exactly what I am talking about. Desert Sun Resort is unique; it is everything a first timer is looking for in a clothing optional experience yet you will also meet several extremely nice, longtime nudists who either live there or nearby.

This is a true resort in every stretch of the imagination in beautiful Palm Springs, CA. There is no question this would be a great location to vacation even if you actually had to wear clothes. The people who frequent there are very open, warm and genuinely friendly.

The food is always very good to excellent; yet Desert Sun Resort is situated close to nearby restaurants you can walk to on the days when the DSR restaurant is closed. You can also get a newly remodeled courtyard room that has a spacious fridge and microwave at your disposal.

Negatives: If there are any it would probably be your fault for not scheduling enough days to stay there; clearly, you will never want to leave.

Room Tip: The courtyard rooms are the best!!

This was our first time visiting the Desert Sun Resort. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will be returning. We felt comfortable during our entire stay. The staff is excellent and the guests were friendly. Everybody seemed to enjoy themselves. The grounds are beautiful and well taken care of. Lots of fun and interested places to see in and near Palm Springs.
