“The good and the bad....”
Reviewed 26 July 2011

We spent 3 nights here the last weekend in June. We spend quite a bit of time in the desert each year. We prefer to stay in La Quinta or Indian Wells/Palm Desert but we were part of a golf tournament nearby so this was our first stay at this hotel. We have driven by many times to see a busy streetfront bar with misters going in front of the hotel. Unfortunately this now appears to be permanently closed. This is a large atrium style hotel on the main road with lots of shops and restaurants surrounding it. This is the ONLY decent hotel in Palm Springs proper. We booked 2 suites, one mountain view king suite on the 4th floor for us with a nice view of pool and mountains, and Cabana suite #101 for our teenage sons. Our friends also booked a cabana suite#109. The cabana suites are obviously on the 1st floor which means no privacy if you open your front or rear curtains, BUT on a busy weekend you have your own outside space and it is great for a fun day at the pool. Also great as you can leave your living room slider open and watch tv while sunning outside. Unfortunately one of the neighbors brought their boom box and blasted rap throughout the entire pool area. Staff did nothing about it. Most of the cabana suites were rented out for bachelorette parties. The big negative in our minds about the cabana suite is that their bedroom window is next to the front door and the door and windows open to the outside of the hotel. It is as if this wing may have been added after the fact. Anyone can walk off the street and try the doors on the 1st floor...not what we had had in mind for our sons. #101 had the doggy potty area directly outside. The door had a large gap underneath and the boys did not like finding live roach like water bugs in the living room each day. #101 was on the end with a wall separating it from the side road. Only 2 cabana rooms have their front doors and windows inside the hotel and they are suites #108 and 109 which are the WORST, as others have stated. They open to the small lobby off the front desk with the bell carts, the public restrooms and the elevator directly in front of the rooms. All Cabana rooms have their bedroom in front and the living room in the rear. The mountain suites are the opposite and thus provide more privacy. If the hotel is throwing a private party (the film festival party was there one night) you will have no access to these cabana's even though they are attached and part of your room. Our friends were kicked out of their cabana after the lock broke on their front door and it took over 1 hour for security to be able to open the door to let them in. We all sat in the lobby and waited...not what we had planned for the evening. Apparently the hotel ended up comping their room and inviting them back for a free stay. They will not return. The party even took over the only bar for the evening and there is no mini bar, just an empty refrigerator. Not a good thing when the kids want to watch tv and you planned to enjoy the cabana with friends over cocktails from the bar. On a positive note, we had excellent service from Aime at the pool bar on Friday and Saturday, but the bar was not open on a Sunday??! The female bartender on Thursday night opened for us at 11pm and said she would stay as long as we wanted...very nice. The breakfast buffet came with our room and there was a nice selection. We liked Oscar our server. Overall, if I needed to stay in Palm Springs proper, I would return to this hotel, but not the cabana suite, only after first calling to confirm there were no events scheduled in the bar and pool areas. Otherwise you would do better 20 minutes down the road at Hyatt Grand Champions, Renaissance Esmerelda resort or at La Quinta Hotel and Resort.

Room Tip: Get a suite in main atrium building, otherwise door opens to 100 degree heat. Hi floor = no bugs

Thank you so much for your feedback on our property. Our cabana suites are very popular and sell out every weekend. I'm so glad you were able to experience these beautifully appointed suites with their own cabana. The outdoor cafe is closed right now and will be under renovation in the next few weeks. We are hoping to open in October and I have a very good feeling that our guests and locals will really enjoyo this space, the atomosphere, and the food and beverage. Thanks for staying with us and I hope you will come back for another visit in the future.

My family and I stayed here July 15-17 and really enjoyed our stay. The rooms are nicely decorated. The hotel staff was the best. Everyone was practicing their best customer service skills. Thanks to Gabriel for helping w/ my poolside cabana rental, Erin for correcting any billing errors, Matt and Michael kept us hydrated all weekend long. Breakfast was great w/ much variety. This place is walking distance to restaurants and shopping. I would stay here again.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for just one night as part of our vacation in Southern California. The service was excellent, as was the condition and size of the room. It was late on Friday night when we arrived and there was a bit of a line for checking in, which was fine for us, but the receptionist was very apologetic and offered us a free breakfast to compensate (sadly we slept in on the fantastic bed - best of the vacation - and didn't get to take advantage of the service). We were flying back to New York the next day and had purchased a lot of items that we needed to repack the day we were checking out, so it was very much appreciated when the staff allowed us a late check-out - so helpful. The only reservation I had was that the scene around the pool is not really our thing, but that is by no means a criticism of the hotel; we prefer going to the beach ourselves or other less resort-type places, so I note this just to bring it to people's attention, rather than raise it as a complaint. All-in-all, the hotel is great and we had the perfect end to our trip here and left relaxed and reinvigorated.

I booked the hotel through Priceline at an excellent rate through the name your price option. I had often driven past this hotel but never stayed there.

All rooms are very spacious suites. I had one on the top (6th floor) facing the street - there was no street noise. All the suites also have a private balcony.

Breakfast was good - the buffet at weekends was very good value at around $19 per person.

Rather than pay for parking, I parked on the street. There is ample parking on Belardo Road behind the hotel, and a free public parking lot across from the hotel.

The hotel pool is not the largest around and it was very full and very busy at the weekend.

Looking forward to staying again.

I love the title to your review....and believe me we have no "coach" rooms at this hotel. It's all about size, comfort, location and views. It means the world to us when our guests take the time to make positive comments about their experience at the hotel. At least we know we are doing it right! You should also check us out on Facebook.....you never know what kind of deal you will find there. Don't forget to stay with us next time your in Palm Springs!

My wife and I decided to head to Palm Springs for a few days with the family. The Hyatt was a great choice, perfect location, good price, and awesome staff. We were always greeted by every employee, and they always wanted to help, even the person staffing the parking garage was helpful. We went for the cabana suite due to having 2 young children, and this was the best thing ever! The suite itself was laid out perfect with two TVs, and a mini bar. The only thing missing is a microwave, which is a little inconvienant not having with a toddler with us.

The only negative seems to be the same with almost every other review, the house cleaning is unacceptable for a Hyatt. The hardwood floors were very dingy, there was napkins and other trash behind the furniture, and one of the soap dishes in the shower had some nasty soap scum with some hair in it. We went to the front desk, they apologized and gave us a free breakfast, being we had already taken our showers we just asked that it could be cleaned the next day during their normal routine, it was not. Another trip to the desk only brought a maid immediatly to our room. Another note I almost forgot about, we had room service bring us breakfast that same morning and the tray sat outside our room untill about 7 or 8'oclock at night.
Overall we were very happy with the hotel and will stay here again, as we plan on making PS our new vacation destination. Something needs to be done about the room cleanliness, but everything else was top notch.

I cannot overstate the quality of service that we received. Every single member of the hotel staff that I encountered in my 24 hours was genuinely friendly, happy and went out of their way to ensure I was happy. This was extraordinary.

Pros:
The cleanliness and maintenance was top notch. The hotel decor is vast, open and modern. The rooms are all suites with a balcony, very large and well appointed with 2 TV, a safe, fridge and extra sofa bed.

The pool area is clean and well-staffed with plenty of clean towels provided. Good food and beverage will be brought with the wave of a hand. The rental cabana's are attractive and clean. The pool is small, but adequate.

The location is the best you'll find on Palm Canyon. A plethora of dining and shopping is literally steps form the hotel door.

The breakfast buffet was very good quality with above average selection. Once again, the service was impeccable.

Cons:
No Spa. However, poolside and in-room massage is available.

Notes:
Coffee, tea, bottled water and Internet are included in the "resort Fee". There is a charge for parking. Complementary Hors d'œuvres are served in the bar nightly.

We stayed one night on July 4th weekend, the hotel was assigned by a bid-your-own-price website.

I usually only write a hotel review when there some problem that I feel others should know about. However, every once in a while a hotel experience is so extraordinary that I must share. This place is tops.

3 familes stayed at the hotel for the 4th of july weekend , we've there before and will come back again and again , we had 2 cabana rooms and a city view room and a $75 welcome credit and we love it
upon booking i had called the hotel and requested the 2 cabanas to be next to each other but when we got there they said they couldn't ......
also during the stay i have noticed that there wasn't a single trash can in the loby nor the pool area and the staff does not pick up the trash , we ordered food by the pool and the in the cabana and from the time our food came untill we left the chairs by the pool and bowls werent picked up , i know u r suppose to pick your dirty towels to the bin , and some people dont , neither the staff , some people leave the towels behind and they dont get pick up untill 10 pm when the pool close...DEFINETLY YOU HAVE SOME HOUSEKEEPING ISSUE some other hotels and right on top of it ,,,
other than that we loveeeeeeeeee ittttttt, we love the fact that from the minute we get there unitll the minute we leave we dont see our car, friendly staff and check in and out, very roomy suites , we had stayed at many places at PS and this is our favorite, being a gold member allow us late check out at 2pm witch is awesome ,,,, love the fridge in the room ....
2 things this place need and will make it more awesome , a game room with a pool table and better HOUSEKEEPING
AND KEEPING THE POOL OPEN UNTILL 10 PM is SUPERRRRRRRRR at some of our previous stays it would close at 6pm

Room Tip: Cabana rooms are awesome

A happy guest makes me a happy general manager. Thanks for sharing the experience you had with our hotel on Trip Advisor. Sounds like we have some retraining to do on the housekeeping side and I will definately address this with the staff. Our pool area is so popular however - we have to stay on top of bussing the dishes, picking up the towels, etc. I appreciate the feedback and will implement procedures to make it better for all of our guests. Palm Springs is a great place to visit in the summer with the desert heat, relaxing pools, and refreshing drinks - it's the perfect getaway - and we are right in the heart of downtown. Hope to have you back soon!
