We spent 3 nights here the last weekend in June. We spend quite a bit of time in the desert each year. We prefer to stay in La Quinta or Indian Wells/Palm Desert but we were part of a golf tournament nearby so this was our first stay at this hotel. We have driven by many times to see a busy streetfront bar with misters going in front of the hotel. Unfortunately this now appears to be permanently closed. This is a large atrium style hotel on the main road with lots of shops and restaurants surrounding it. This is the ONLY decent hotel in Palm Springs proper. We booked 2 suites, one mountain view king suite on the 4th floor for us with a nice view of pool and mountains, and Cabana suite #101 for our teenage sons. Our friends also booked a cabana suite#109. The cabana suites are obviously on the 1st floor which means no privacy if you open your front or rear curtains, BUT on a busy weekend you have your own outside space and it is great for a fun day at the pool. Also great as you can leave your living room slider open and watch tv while sunning outside. Unfortunately one of the neighbors brought their boom box and blasted rap throughout the entire pool area. Staff did nothing about it. Most of the cabana suites were rented out for bachelorette parties. The big negative in our minds about the cabana suite is that their bedroom window is next to the front door and the door and windows open to the outside of the hotel. It is as if this wing may have been added after the fact. Anyone can walk off the street and try the doors on the 1st floor...not what we had had in mind for our sons. #101 had the doggy potty area directly outside. The door had a large gap underneath and the boys did not like finding live roach like water bugs in the living room each day. #101 was on the end with a wall separating it from the side road. Only 2 cabana rooms have their front doors and windows inside the hotel and they are suites #108 and 109 which are the WORST, as others have stated. They open to the small lobby off the front desk with the bell carts, the public restrooms and the elevator directly in front of the rooms. All Cabana rooms have their bedroom in front and the living room in the rear. The mountain suites are the opposite and thus provide more privacy. If the hotel is throwing a private party (the film festival party was there one night) you will have no access to these cabana's even though they are attached and part of your room. Our friends were kicked out of their cabana after the lock broke on their front door and it took over 1 hour for security to be able to open the door to let them in. We all sat in the lobby and waited...not what we had planned for the evening. Apparently the hotel ended up comping their room and inviting them back for a free stay. They will not return. The party even took over the only bar for the evening and there is no mini bar, just an empty refrigerator. Not a good thing when the kids want to watch tv and you planned to enjoy the cabana with friends over cocktails from the bar. On a positive note, we had excellent service from Aime at the pool bar on Friday and Saturday, but the bar was not open on a Sunday??! The female bartender on Thursday night opened for us at 11pm and said she would stay as long as we wanted...very nice. The breakfast buffet came with our room and there was a nice selection. We liked Oscar our server. Overall, if I needed to stay in Palm Springs proper, I would return to this hotel, but not the cabana suite, only after first calling to confirm there were no events scheduled in the bar and pool areas. Otherwise you would do better 20 minutes down the road at Hyatt Grand Champions, Renaissance Esmerelda resort or at La Quinta Hotel and Resort.
