“Total Chill Out”

I love this place, I have been 3 times in the past 8 weeks.
After a hard weeks work in Los Angeles I jump in the car on a Friday night and head to La Joya knowing that come Saturday morning I will relaxing by the pool, in the clean warm air or Palm Springs.
Staff very friendly
Rooms very clean

Room Tip: Avoid staying to close to the hot tub as guests use it all time of night

we checked into this place after another hotel had lost our reservation. We had driven all the way out to Palm Springs and had no where to stay. Thank god for Mo at La Joya. He was so sweet and got us a great, inexpensive room right off one of the pools. We enjoyed our time at the pool as well as at the sister hotel next door. Affordable and clean is how I like to travel and this place fit the bill.

We had somewhat last-minute travel plans and had to find somewhere to stay in Palm Springs for just one night. The previous six nights, we stayed at another gay-owned property in Palm Springs and had an amazing experience.

The lowest cost option for our one night was the Motel 6 in Palm Springs, which was advertised at USD$85 per night, but we wanted to stay somewhere gay so we took what we could get, not really knowing what to expect. The room rate for the La Joya was USD$179 per night (which was USD$20 more per night than where we were previously staying).

To say our stay was a disappointment is the understatement of the century. I'm not high maintenance by any means, but what we got *for the money* at this resort was shocking.

The grounds of the resort seemed tidy, although quite dated and not at all "lush". The rooms were also very dated, it was clear that the only recent renovations were some fresh paint on the walls, a new toilet in the bathroom, and a flat-screen TV. There were no closet doors, and the hardware for the formerly installed closet doors was still left on the shelf in the closet. The room had a chemical smell. There was no way to open a window to the room to let in any fresh air, there were no curtains (only louvered blinds) so the room was very bright in the morning. Also, we found that the resort was very loud at all hours, with people playing loud techno music, etc. Pets are also apparently allowed, as we heard a dog barking in a room next door all night.

In the morning before we checked out, out of curiosity we had a walk around the property and came across a man jerking off in plain view near the gym, at around 9am.

The guy at the front desk was nice, but there were no amenities at this hotel (e.g., breakfast, the ability to buy cocktails or other food of any kind, etc.) which was in stark contrast to where we had been the previous six nights, at a lower rate per night!

If you're looking for somewhere reasonable to stay at a fair price, this place is a rip-off. I wouldn't pay more than USD$75 per night to stay here, ever.

Room Tip: Choose a room somewhere else (like another hotel/resort).

I spent 3 nights here and enjoyed my stay. It was obvious management has spent a lot of money and time improving the property. Very friendly staff, nice comfortable new beds, and the pools/hot tub are well maintained. Very large room. My travel companion and I had our own separate bedrooms. I'll stay here again!

I just stayed at the La Joya Inn in Palm Springs for two and a half weeks. (January, 2014) This is a gay men's resort (clothing optional) in the Warm Springs section of Palm Springs. The resort is conveniently located to all the restaurants, movies, etc in Palm Springs. The rooms are very nice size and clean....they have refrigerators and flat screen tvs....the cable is somewhat limited on the tvs. The new owner of this resort (it used to be Inn Exile) and the one next door could not be nicer. He is always ready to help out with any problems and very eager to make sure your stay is a pleasant one. He took the time to move a desk into my room so it would be easier for me to work at my Ipad. There are several pools and spas at the resort and daily maid service. Breakfast is free and is held at the Warm Sands resort next door. Internet is also free. I would highly recommend this resort.

I have never written a review before, but this place was bad enough for me to write one. First, the rooms smelled like we were sleeping in a bathhouse, but without any of the perks; nor we're we seeking that kind of activity. The floors in the rooms were filthy as the bottoms of my feet were constantly black from walking on the tile. Mopping doesn't require a renovation. The bedspread looked like the same one that was there when I was at the Inn Exile 12 years ago. The coating on the bathtub was so worn off that it looked filthy. There was a hole in the tile under the sink that was plugged up by paper. There was no one in the common areas most of the time and breakfast and cocktails were at the property next door. The breakfast was bare minimum and Costco fare, but fine for us.

The worse part was, as others have pointed out, that you can't even have friends over to sit by the pool. We had two friends who live in Palm Springs and we were asked by the owner to have them leave for "liability" reasons. Really? I'm a lawyer...get them to sign a waiver, but not allowing guests felt like we were staying in an all girls dorm room 40 years ago. Lastly, no matter how many times I put the do not disturb sign on the door, the housekeeping guy knocked on the door every morning by 9am. Ugh...won't stay there again.

Stayed December 2013
