“A Diamond in the Rough”

Our family has been staying at A Place In The Sun for almost a quarter century! A small but very cozy hotel. We enjoy being able BBQ out by the pool & fix meals in our kitchen in the room. The staff is personable, friendly and always there to help. The owners, Norma & Ron drop in all the time to make sure everyone is enjoying their stay. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing stay in Palm Springs this is the place.

We have been coming to this gem of a hotel in the desert for years. The grounds of the hotel are always kept up very nice. The rooms are always kept very clean. You can't beat all the amenities compared to other hotels. Each room has it's own patio and garden! Not to mention the spacious living room and dining area and kitchen too! Open your front door and you are steps away from the pool! Where else can you find all this in Palm Springs?. This hotel is also pet friendly! On weekends they offer a wonderful continental breakfast out by the pool area too. Behind the hotel is a riverbed which if great for long walks . The hotel is close to downtown Palm Springs.

Stayed at the same room we stayed 2 years ago. It was perfect, 70's style. The kids enjoyed the homey feel. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The kitchen was helpful instead of going out for meals. I highly recommend this place for family on budgets that want to have relaxing time away from home..

This was our second time back to A Place in the Sun and we will return. It is a small, intimate boutiquey style hotel that harks back to the 50's and we love it. The place is quiet, clean and small; a cluster of single storey apartments and studios set around a salt water pool. We upgraded to a one bedroom suite with a full kitchen which is perfect for us as we like to cook our own meals. It is a great place to chat with fellow travellers around the pool. The office has books and dvds to borrow and coffee and juice in the morning. We love the neighbourhood the hotel stts in- it is a great place to have a morning walk. It is a little piece of home with friendly and informative staff.

This is a place for those who like a dose of quirkiness, vintage charm, and quietude with their hotels. We stayed in their least expensive "standard room." It featured a very small room with a king-sized bed, a "kitchenette," which has a refrigerator, 2-burner stove, and a sink all in the space of a small closet. The bathroom was extremely modest but clean and functional. There was a small, private, out-door space with a cement floor, cinderblock walls and a table, two chairs and two lounges. Where this place really shines though, is its garden and pool areas. Beautiful grassy areas, colorful flowers and towering palm trees all framed by the mountains in the background. The pool and spa are open 24 hours, were crystal clear and they had a misting system to help cool you during the heat of the day. Although the clientele sort of reminded me of a retirement home (walkers and canes were well represented), it also meant that we never had any competition for the pool or spa. In fact, virtually every time we were in the pool or spa we were the only ones in them. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, particularly Kyle at the front desk. A minor bother was that the wall mounted air conditioner proved too loud to use at night. Fortunately, opening the windows and turning on the ceiling fan proved sufficient. Also, we found the bed to be a bit on the hard side. Finally, one caveat, one of this hotels niches is that it allows pets. There were dogs all over the place, mostly well behaved, although there was a fair amount of barking that went on. So if you don't like dogs, you might want to consider some place else.

We booked A Place in the Sun because we were looking for a dog friendly hotel in Palm Springs and they clearly advertise this on their website. Additionally, the mid century modern character was a big selling point. We booked the smallest room, and even so it has a little kitchenette with stove, fridge, coffee pot, dishes, and the essential cookware to fix meals. The rooms surround a courtyard with a lovely pool and beautiful grass and palm trees. There was a very helpful guidebook on Palm Springs created by the hotel, which included a list of restaurants with outdoor patios so we could go out to eat with our dog .

The bathroom and kitchen are on the older side, but perfectly clean. The room decor is not mid century, and the patio was not particularly appealing. It had a table and chairs, and two lounge chairs, but was all concreate surrounded by fairly high walls. Still better to have than not. (We ate our breakfast out on the patio) I'm very appreciate of dog friendly establishments, and especially those that don't charge high fees on top of the room rate. We would definetly stay here again and recommend it to others.

the pool is to die for. salt water, quiet. a cute little putting green and a gazebo stocked w/ newspapers, mags. a bbq. beautiful palm trees and landscaping is goregous flowers and shrubs. very fifties california style. had a sorta golden girls mellow vibe and the neighbors were quiet. it really felt like an escape from everything else in our hectic lives. i moved into my bungalow and entrenched myself like a hermit crab! the bungalow was beautiful and had more than i could hope for in amenities. mini everything except closets and bed. even had a vanity table! what?! even unpacking was fun stocking the kitchenette and spacious closets. it reminded me of my 1954 little ranch home i had on an orchard in northern cali a few years back. *sigh*. kyle was a wonderful gracious host and im just torn i had to "move out' after three days of heaven.
