“Wonderful stay at the Hotel California”
Reviewed 16 February 2014

We only spent 2 nights but the room and amenities far exceed most big hotels.
Warm welcome from Larry and staff. Larry instantly made our visit to the Hotel California feel like we were family coming for a short stay. Very clean and beautifully manicured grounds and pool area and hot tub which is perfect for a relaxing getaway. Beds very comfortable and kitchenette nice to have for a quick brkfast/lunch. And then the main kitchen area that is there for all to use is well stocked with all your would need and well organized. So glad we could spend part of our stay at this gem of small hotel. Sherrisse and Murray

Also just a tip if you plan to rent a car use Aztec (local company). I can't say enough about Candace - she was excellent to deal with via email prior to our arrival and more so when we met in person with our rental.

Room Tip: We had 2 queen beds with kitchentte on the second level west side of the building. Large room - ple...

I have to admit we were a bit concerned about the name as "Hotel California" sounded like a tourist trap but we needn't have worried. The place is great.
The positives:
Lovely charming and helpful staff lead by Larry and Lucy.
Very comfortable beds with good sheets.
Quiet but with a great atmosphere.
Very good value especially considering the amount of drinks, nibbles and fruit provided for free.

Things to be aware of:
No breakfast served but there is a good supermarket nearby and local cafes.
You are a mile and a half from downtown but you can use the free limo service and there are good restaurants within walking distance.

Room Tip: We had the "Tree House" which is on the upper level, so as long as you don't mind the...

We stayed at Hotel California in February 2013 in order to see an art show at the museum. When we checked in, we were greeted warmly and got a tour of the hotel. The grounds at the hotel are amazing! Very tropical and inviting. The pool is lovely. The jacuzzi isn't very inviting - that area looks like an afterthought - needs some TLC. We were shown to our room - room 4. It was in a shaded area by some stairs. Since it was on the bottom floor with stairs right by it, it was pretty dark by the front entrance to our room. There were some pretty bushes outside though. When we went into our room, I was hoping that there would be another window, but no. It was very dark in our room. The bathroom and dressing area were like a cave. If you went in there, you had to turn on the light. If you wanted privacy in the room, you would have to keep all the blinds closed. Not so fun. The bed was ok. The bed cover was old, but I loved the patterns on it. My biggest problem with the room and with the resort was there was no comfortable place to sit. The only chairs we had in our room were wooden dining chairs. So I had to sit on the bed. I have trouble with my back so sitting on the bed wasn't so fun. I went to a public sitting room, but the chairs in there weren't comfortable either. Sitting outside was lovely but not that comfortable. I wish there had been a comfy place to sit in my room.
This place is great if your back doesn't hurt, if you get a better room than room 4 - one that has a couch or something, and if you don't mind everyone sitting around and socializing constantly. I would be tempted to go back because the grounds were so lovely but.... no, I am not excited about the rooms.

Room Tip: Get a suite that has plenty of light. I would ask for an upstairs suite. This is not going to be eas...

Palm Springs is Heaven, and this hotel is Shangri-La. I cant think of anywhere else to stay! Lovely room with full amenities. Fully stocked kitchen. You can eat in and there is a great supermarket down the road too! We stayed there for two short days and sat by the pool just chilling. Its a small hotel and pool but it is an oasis in downtown Palm Springs. We ate out in a great mexican place just a 2 minute walk around the corner. I could retire and live in this hotel...

From the moment we walked in the gate we knew this was no ordinary hotel. The welcome we received was just wonderful. It felt like we were coming home. As we checked in we were offered a choice of beer, water, wine, soda etc....My partner and I just looked at each other in amazement. We were then taken on a tour where they showed us the DVD library, the phone that we could use even to call overseas, the kitchen that we had full access to, the free red liquorice, the pool and jacuzzi that were open all night, and the list goes on.....This place is truly an oasis. Shortly after checking in we hit the pool where we met a nice Canadian couple who directed us to the nearest liquor store down the street. We bought a bottle of Chardonnay and proceeded to have wonderful swim with plastic wine cup in hand that was provided in the room. Pure heaven!!! What a way to spend an evening after a long drive.

What is so special and impressive at the Hotel California is the trust they put in their guests. I will definitely recommend this amazing place to all my friends and will most definitely stay there again. I am one satisfied customer!!!! :-)

The hotel has a very nice feel to it, thanks to the casual atmosphere and amenities. Not the Four Seasons, just a comfortable place, creatively decorated and with an accommodative staff. Only negative is the spotty wifi service, since I needed it for work.

Just have to echo all the comments on the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff! Lucy and Larry made us feel so welcome and they were helpful with information (directions and restaurant recommendations) since this was our first visit to Palm Springs. The rooms are very comfortable and the pool/landscaping very restful and relaxing. Can't wait to come back again!

Room Tip: We stayed in King Deluxe #9 and would like to stay there again on our next trip.
