“Known worldwide--Fabulous Follies is a must see!!!!”
Reviewed 14 August 2006

The Follies is like a time capsule that is magically opened each time you visit. Nostalgia takes center stage as singers and dancers perform various numbers in a vaudevillian-esque, themed production that is intertwined with various music and comedy acts. Oh, did I mention that the entire troupe is over 55 years old?

Riff Markowitz, the founder of the Follies, emcees the show with an uncanny comic timing that is rarely found these days in the younger generation of comedians. One of his best segments is when he has a Q&A with the audience. He is old school at its best.

The dancers are all former Broadway and TV troupe members who still have enough quality and energy to perform beautifully, in spite of their ages ranging from 55 to well into their 70's.

On a personal note, at our Follies performance, a special guest was in attendance to see the show...none other than Spartacus, himself...Kirk Douglas.

In conclusion, if you are in PS and don't go to the Follies, you have missed something big. Don't miss this show...you won't regret it!

“ok, but not as represented, and too much nonsense--not enough performance”
Reviewed 5 March 2005

3 of us went last night. One 40+, one 50+, and one 90+ year old. We had heard such great things that I think our expectations weren't realistic. At the same time, I think that there were false representations. Starting with the good: the 50-80+ year old dancers/singers were really great. the cosumes were fabulous. Going downhill from there: the singing: we are suspicious that some or all was actually pre-recorded. The conductor rises out of a trap door at the beginning, but, looking down from the balcony, we could obviously see there was no orchestra, while being led to believe there was, in a pit that didn't even exist. Further, on checking the program, no musicians were listed. The MC/producer, who was at best only moderately funny, spent more time on stage than all the perforers put together, even extending beyond the final curtain call. We started to wonder if the show was more about the follies or about him. The show was way too long (nearly 3 hours with 2 intermissions). As for our 1st row balcony seats: we called the theater to find out where might be best, and were advised that those were xlnt. They were not, and in a show where you need to see the faces of the older men and women, other than with binoculars, we could not. If you go, sit downstairs, as close to the front as you can, period. And a final note: the end was some superpatriotic tribute to something miltary or I'm not sure what. Starting with the call to soldiers in the audience, and ending with a huge inflatable eagle that dropped from the ceiling over the audience, and a standing star spangled banner. All just tacky, weird and inappropriate it seemed. The performers seemed good enough to stand on their own. However the way it was produced, they represent only about 1/3 of the performance time.
