“Fantastic hotel with great service and the best Mexican food I've eaten.”
Reviewed 6 May 2012

We stayed here during the Coachella Featival and we were not let down. The rooms are a good size, spotlessly clean and have good bathrooms. The service was fantastic- from the moment we arrived to when we left. Personally, what really makes me want to give Los Arboles a 5 star review was the restaurant. It was by and far the best mexican food I'd ever tasted. Would be happy to return.

The stay was wonderful in most regards. The grounds are lovely, the staff very courteous. The hotel was mostly empty so we did not hear the noises others mention excepting some drunk/obnoxious ones at the pool (here for Coachella Fest).

My criticisms are as follows: no staff after hours. Our fault, we misplaced our key. No way into room at midnight. No staff on site. No contact info save 'call 911'. We had to book another room farther out and spend the night there. On call staff at a minimum could have arrived in 15 minutes and got us into our room...our fault I know, but that is what they are there for to help (such callouts would be infrequent an not costly); no morning coffee...went to nearby Starbucks, but would be nice to have it on site; pool never cleaned in week. Bar napkins, debris, twigs all in the pool...I cleaned it. Dirty plates, towels, drink cups all would set on pool side tables for hours after the users were long gone. "Managers" walked by but failed to notice the need to bus tables. Restaurant staff needs to better coordinate in serving pool side guests.

But, these were not huge issues (save the late night lock out) but the place is very pretty and some very nice people work here. Restaurant food very nice and ladies working there are a 10. Enjoyed our stay. View wonderful. Just a few little things to tweak...my suggestion.

Great feedback Switters ... appreciate your comments. Constructive critiques like yours a really helpful for us. My apologies for the lack of an after hours contact. We struggle with that one because of the small size of the property ... but your comment brought the issue into focus for us. No excuses for the problems with bussing dishes poolside. We just need to do a better job on that. When we get windstorms here keeping that pool free of debris is a challenge. But obviously could have done better there too. Thanks for the positive comments on food and our staff. Hope we see you again for Coachella 2013.

We had a lovely stay at Los Arboles. Russel our host was welcoming and gave a small tour of the property and its amenities. I have been to several of the boutique hotels in Palm Springs and I rate this one at the top. Beautifully remodeled in the old romantic California style. Inviting pool and spa with lovely lounges. Our room was roomy and tastefully decorated. The bed was comfy and I love the spa bath with a fireplace. Would like some coffee in the morning was my only need. The property also has a great Mexican resautrant attached called Mirasol. They serve good authentic food in a beautiful courtyard with the most comfy chairs ever. Could of spent all night. Their coffee Flan was outstanding. On those stressful days I will dream of coming back here. Thanks you Los Arboles!

This property is one of the hardest to rate. Not poor - not average. The hotel does not rate itself as a B&B. It is a small boutique hotel - or a small inn. The people at the hotel are extremely nice and the grounds are pleasant and relaxing. If everyone was at the pretty pool area at the same time, there would not be enough chairs or lounges.

Around 8:15 in the mornings, they brought delicious, hot coffee to the pool area with Mexican breads (with sugar) or sliced breads and cookies which was a nice touch. When we arrived, our room wasn't ready so a staff person gave us free margaritas. We thought that was a very nice thing to do.

If you have a bad back, this may be important... whoever designed the shower stall omitted any elevated ledge for soaps and shampoos. This meant keeping your soap and shampoo on the floor. Maybe the other rooms didn't have this issue.

Even though the tile floors were washed before we checked in, our white socks were completely black on the bottom from dirt.

The room was also very dark with 2 dim lights. There were no tissues, no clock, no closet. Many of the other reviews talk about thin walls and noise. We must have been very lucky because we heard no such noises in our room (#119). We were next to the outside seating area of the connected restaurant. With the air conditioner going, we heard nothing from the outside seating area of the restaurant.

If you want luxury, this isn't your place. If you want simplicity and a nice pool area, it's fine. If you're sensitive to noise, be aware of the other reviews that emphasized their noise issues.

My wife and I stayed at the Los Arboles for 1 night on Feb. 26th. We enjoy sampling the small, boutique hotels in the Palm Springs area. Specifically, we have stayed at the San Guilaino, Andalusian Court, Pepper Tree Inn, Twin Palms and the Palm Tee to name a few. So I think we have a good base to compare properties in P.S.
Let me clear the air a bit regarding the Los Arboles. The property is beautifully renovated and extremely clean. It is clear that the owners invested a significant amount in this property. The tile work is exceptional. However, there are some adjustments that need to be made. It is true that they need to add coffee makers to the rooms and, I discovered, a shelf in the shower of our bathroom to place your soap and shampoo on(I didn't note the room number). Our room was comfortable but a bit spare, some wall hangings and the addition of area rugs would help greatly. The staff was very helpfull and courteous. Jacuzzi was fabulous and clean. The view from the Jacuzzi of Mt. San Jacinto at sunset is one of the things that keeps me coming back to P.S. The highlight for me was the restaurant, El Mirasol, attached to the hotel. The dining patio, with a beautifull view of the mountains and festive lighting, was the perfect place for enjoying an excellent Mexican dinner. We took home a bottle of their hot sauce, which they sell in 12 oz. bottles. The restaurant is small, so I would try it before it gets too popular to get into.
On the downside, the walls of the rooms are thin and street noise and sound from adjacent rooms can be heard. I don't see an easy fix for this. If you are a light sleeper I would consider another property.
Don't believe the haters. This place is not a "desert dump" it's a beautifull property that needs to make some adjustments. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Request a room away from the street to reduce in room noise.

This improperly categorized "bed and breakfast" wins the award for worst soundproofing - our recent visit was highlighted by being able to hear every single world, moan, groan, and pleasure being voiced by our (honeymooning?) neighbors. Worse - since the "front desk/office" closes between 7 pm and 9 am (you're directed to the Mexican restaurant on premises for any inquiries/problems, which closes itself at 10 pm), there was NOTHING that could be done. Net result? A very bad night of sleep before a major bike tour the next day. Lastly, this property has no coffee, light snacks, amenities of any sort, be warned with the Tripadvisor categorization as a "B+B". After hearing our neighbors cavorting about that night, they should change "B+B" to "S+M"!!!

Thanks for the feedback and you are correct that we were categorized incorrectly as a B&B. We requested the change be made to "hotel" category and TripAdvisor made the adjustment. Sorry about the noises from your frisky neighbors ... our apologies. The circa 1937 hotel design is charming but is just not quite as sound proof as modern construction. And while we do not offer breakfast ... there are several great breakfast spots about a block away and our restaurant (El Mirasol) offers complete food and beverage service from 11:00AM to 10:00PM daily as well as room service and poolside service. Coffee in the morning is probably something we should offer and your comment is well taken. Give us another chance for the Tour de Palm Springs Bike Tour 2013 and we will pack you a couple of tasty burritos to eat on the ride!
