Stayed in Ron's place for a week and the care he puts as a naturalist into making the environment friendly to wildlife was wonderful. Every morning we would wake up and have coffee with numerous birds, jackrabbits, cottontails, hummingbirds, and squirrels. The hot tub was wonderful after a long day of hiking to watch the stars. He also has a chiminea outside that I used one morning to warm up while watching all the animals.
His place is about 30 minutes from downtown Palm Springs, including all the canyons there that you can hike. We drove a little more than an hour to Ladder Canyon (Painted Canyon) and that was a VERY unique hiking experience and highly recommended. Also, a few miles up the road is Yucca Valley that has any groceries you might need (Stater Bros was very reasonable).
Ron's placed has everything you need: very comfortable queen size bed, small kitchen but adequate for what we needed, grill outside, and a beautiful central location!
If you go, and you should, try Pappy & Harriet's at Pioneertown, which is right down the road and a spectacular 'desert eclectic" place to eat & explore.
What a well appointed smart, clean perfectly located property! Ron has stocked the house with everything you will ever need and more. He has spent years encouraging so much wildlife to surround it and entertain the visitors. We loved watching the quail, chipmunks and hummingbirds. Ron gave us seed to feed them, too. The views from the inside and out were outstanding. The bed, sofas everything was so so comfortable it made it hard to leave. The dirt track to the property was dusty and on leaving it was not easy to turn left on some occasions, but if you manage to do so, just a few minutes' drive takes you to the Big Morongo Canyon Reserve for lovely walks. Turning right takes you to Yucca Valley for shops. We stayed here for 2 weeks over Christmas and New Year and had a perfect quiet relaxing break.
The cottage was ideally located between Joshua Tree and Big Morongo Canyon, where we did a lot of hiking. The view is fantastic, especially watching sunsets from the hot tub. We saw more wildlife on the property than at any of the parks. 10-min drive to major grocery stores in the town of Yucca Valley.
This is our second year visiting this lovely desert getaway! The lovely house, the beautiful view, the access to so many hikes and shops and venues to explore...and don’t forget the hot tub! We will certainly be back. Thank you, Ron!
This very secluded cottage was very comfortable and had beautiful views. Loved the outside hot tub looking over the valley and up at the stars.
I hesitate to write this review only because I don’t want to share it with anyone but, Ron, the owner. Hahaha! I spent three blissful days in this parasdise, fully submerged in solitude and nature. I am quite grateful to every quail, jack rabbit, scrub jay, raven, humming bird etc. They helped me remember that whata simplest is what’s most important. This location is near so many trails including Joshua Tree. Ron knows literally everything there is to know about the area. He is a treasure. I cannot wait to go back, sit under the stars in the hot tub. This is on the short list of spiritual retreats for sure. Thanks again, Ron.
