I want to say up front my wife and I did not partake in the two major things folks seem to be raving about here: the breakfast, the drinks, or the pool. We stayed here two nights in early July and only really slept here. We did not eat the breakfast either morning. The pool seemed okay but there were three couples already parked each morning in or around the pool and it felt crowded. This is a pretty small motel property jazzed up with Palm Springs decoration to give it character, hence all of the positive reviews here. The manager Wayne was pleasant enough and gave us the “tour” when we checked in. He mentioned the instructions for the hot water. We thought it was odd he had to mention this at all but we went with it because he seemed so nonchalant about it. I should have known. We stayed in “the crooners” room and unfortunately we only achieved lukewarm water at 1:00 am on Saturday night after letting the water run quite awhile. That was the only non freezing water we enjoyed the entire time we were there. No pun intended but this was not cool. I could see if this was a super cheap stay but we paid $159 each night to stay here and hot water (or at least warm water) should be guaranteed. Frankly, I would rather have this than the free breakfast. I really wanted to like this place given how highly reviewed it is but the no hot water thing was a deal breaker. We mentioned this to Wayne on Saturday morning and he kind of shrugged it off like I was asking for too much from him. Sigh. Again, not cool Wayne. I realize this is an older property but you all need to invest in a better water heater. Or just don’t rent out the crooners room.
Some other notes: the crooner room was not the room we reserved on their website. We reserved the Rebel w/o a cause room but when we checked in, Wayne made no mention of this. I let it go because I really did not care. But after our visit, this oversight was indicative of their overall service. With regard to cleanliness, the room was again “just okay”. There was a bit of dust in the closet and some kind of caterpillar larvae in there as well. It was dead but obviously the housekeeping person missed this. The tub/shower set up had a very high step you had to get to in order to get into the shower. It was okay for my wife and I but if we had mobility issues, this would have been a BIG problem. No mention was made of this on their website, which is annoying. As with many motels at this price point, the walls were pretty thin but luckily our neighbors were pretty low key and did not keep us up.
Positives: coffee in the room was great. And the AC worked well. Bed was comfy and sheets were clean. This is why I did not give 1 star. It wasn’t horrible.
But would we stay here again? No. For the price, we could have enjoyed hot water at the Best Western up the street.
Maybe it was just our room? Who knows...
