“Fantastic for the price! We'll be back...”
Reviewed 13 April 2014

This was our first family trip to Palm Springs, and some friends of ours told us about Palm Canyon Resort. We weren't too sure what to expect given some of the reviews. We visited at the end of February. We got a pretty sweet deal with our travel agent, and had a nice one-bedroom, had a kitchenette, etc.
As for the accommodations:
If you are looking for brand new, bright and shiny everything, then no, this is not the place for you. I'm sure that the resort is looking into updates, especially with the new management. But we are a family of four with 2 little kids and what was important to us was having our own bedroom separate from the kids, having a nice space to do some cooking, make some of our own meals, etc. all with a nice patio overlooking the pool. So it was all that and more.
As for the pool:
The poolside was awesome. A nice adult-pool and a great kids area with waterslides. The poolside bar was nice, a great place to pick from yummy salads, burgers, sandwiches and drinks. We especially enjoyed the mudslides for ourselves and ice cream smoothies for the kids. We enjoyed taking our drinks over to the hot tubs and sitting relaxing and sipping them down. There was tasteful music played at times, and since we went in February before spring break it wasn't really too crowded and the people there tended to be relaxed and well behaved for the most part.
My big complaint: The pool was just not warm enough. We were told the pool heater had been fixed. The weather was warm (high 20's) but with that little bit of wind, we couldn't seem to get warm in or out of the pool, which is why we kept going over to the hot tub. Coming from Canada in the middle of winter, we were really hoping for some real warmth, in the water as well as out! If the pool could be heated all that much more in the winter months it would really make a big difference for us. (the kids really didn't seem to notice it though, except my son's teeth were chattering at one point!)
Service:
Cleanliness was not a problem. But again, if you are looking for new and shiny, it is older and might give some people the feeling that it is less clean than brand new. But everything was cleaned to our satisfaction. Room service is not a daily thing, I think you have to stay for a week to get that included. But you know that going into it and for the price, I couldn't complain. They were very prompt in coming right up to our room when we asked for a packnplay for out little guy, and they responded to all requests immediately.
The Wi-Fi connection when we were there was slow, but they assured us it would be upgraded over the next couple months.
There is a beautiful hike right near the resort, takes you up on a cliff and you get to look out over Palm Springs, it's really beautiful and made the morning quite special. We drove into town, cruised the Palm Strip and had a wonderful Mexican dinner, visited the Palm Desert zoo and just overall had a great family time. Looking forward to coming back, hopefully to a warmer pool next February!

We stayed for three nights. And had a nice time overall. There was a nice pool with a poolside bar serving both food and drinks , and water slides which our twelve yr old happily used along with many other kids . There is an on site laundry, rec room with billiard tables,a. Half court basketball and a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Our 1 bedroom unit was a bit drab and needed some remodeling with old carpet. The property is 2 miles from downtown Palm Springs, is quiet at night. Service was mediocre, we waited an average of 15 to 20 minutes for poolside orders and we had no maid service for 3 days. We got a special deal where we got a very reduced rate but had to listen to a 1.5 hr timeshare presentation, but it was a great deal if one can bear the salesmen.

We found our 2 bedroom suite to be very clean with new carpet. I think that by the sounds of some of the other reviews that some rooms are nicer that others. We were lucky to be in a room that was fairly quiet. We did hear the people in the room above us a few times. We really enjoyed the pool which was busy, but it was Spring break so that would be expected.

I had read all the reviews regarding the hotel before my trip. I was worried because everyone seemed to have problems with décor, cleanliness, staff, etc. I think when people are given the chance to make a review they feel they have to critique everything!! It is a hotel not your personal house. We stayed two weeks March 15 - 29 (spring break) and loved it! The service and the staff were so helpful and always so friendly. We had a one bedroom and my daughter and her friend slept on the pull out, no complaints. When I needed something for the kitchen - frypan - I called down to front office and was given one immediately. The pool area is fantastic for people watching and my teens loved it. It is a great location to downtown. We had bikes and stored in our room at night. The room suited our needs and I'm glad I didn't listen to all the bad reviews! We will be booking for next spring break too.

Thank you for spending your spring break at the Palm Canyon Resort. The tropical landscaping and our over-sized swimming pool make the resort a perfect getaway for some fun in the sun. We are glad to hear you enjoyed our accommodations and our staff, and look forward to your return next year!

We revisited the Palm Canyon Resort during the last week of March. Spring Break! An overcrowded swimming pool which was closed for a hygiene problem one afternoon and another day because of windy, sandy weather.Although we were told that we'd be in well before the 4 o'clock availability, this was not true and we wasted the afternoon at poolside. The room layout was good but the place had not been vacuumed (take a shower, walk barefooted for fifteen minutes over the rugs and the soles of your feet are black). Sink faucet leaked. 19th Century plumbing repair to 1/2 bath sink was an abstract sculptor's delight. Patio smelled of urine even after cleaning (skim coat on floor was cracked, preventing thorough cleaning). The noise level a poolside was fearsome: screaming children and shouting youths from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Friendly and cooperative staff couldn't overcome the two-star standard of accommodation -- this place needs renovation desperately. This was our third or fourth stay...and our last.

We appreciate you taking the time to write a review. We are very sorry to hear that you experienced service lapses during your time with us and assure you our new management company is aware of our areas requiring improvements. The particulars commented on in your review will be addressed respectively with our teams so that we can ensure our future guests do not experience this. We deeply regret the unfortunate noise disturbances committed by neighboring guests enjoying the pool. There is no shortage of reasons why our great location is thought to be an ideal place for vacationing families traveling for their spring break getaway. However, while we want all our guests to enjoy their stay, we do not want them to do so at the expense of other guests. We hope that you would be willing to give us another chance to make a better impression on you in the future.

We have been an owner of a time-share at this resort for eighteen years, but a little more than ten years ago we moved away from California and have not used this location since. Just recently we were invited to a wedding in Palm Springs and figured that this was a good occasion to revisit the Palm Canyon Resort. With our time-share we qualify for a 2 bed-room suite and we made a reservation over the phone about half a year before our trip, and received a confirmation for a Junior Villa with sufficient space for 4 adults (we were traveling with our two children).

Beware that Junior Villa is clearly a misnomer, since, as we learned upon our arrival, this is the name for an "over-sized closet". The room was smaller than most budget motel rooms in the area (or the US in general) and the interior clearly has not been renovated for the nearly 20 years of the existence of this place. There was a relatively small double bed with a very worn out mattress and an additional sofa sleeper, whose mattress was also hanging through so much that ultimately our older son ended up sleeping on the sofa closed. With our reservation we had also requested a child crib for our two-year old, but when we arrived it was not in the room and despite contacting the front desk was not delivered to us on the evening of our arrival. In the end, since it was rather late when we arrived, we were exhausted and made do without the crib for the first night. Furthermore, when we arrived we were told to park in the basement of our building, but all the parking spaces were taken, so that we ended up parking fairly far away from our room on the street outside the resort.

The next morning we complained, but no other room was offered to us, although eventually at least the crib was delivered. Given the small size of the room the only available space for the crib with the sofa sleeper unfolded, was barely fitting the crib in the hallway in front of the closet. In general with four people in the room it was almost impossible to move around. One more note about the room. It was essentially not possible to look the door effectively from the inside, so that we spent a good time of our stay chasing our two-year old in the outside hallway, since he figured that leaving the room was a highly entertaining game (not so much for us though). Lastly towels and toiletries in the bathroom were just the bare minimum and without regular room service you mate expect to run out of shampoo, etc.

The two somewhat redeeming features is that the location is reasonably central, and the pool is actually nice for the kids (even though it does get rather crowded on the weekend). But the room was so awful that it is highly unlikely that we will ever stay at the Palm Canyon Resort again, in-spite of being a part-time owner. Next time we will probably rather pay for nice lodging somewhere else in Palm Springs and maybe, if our children are still interested, use our access privileges for the pool only.

Room Tip: Stay away from Junior Villas. Despite their pompous name they are the worst rooms the resort has to...

Determined to make Palm Canyon Resort & Spa a premier vacation destination in Palm Springs, our new management company has already begun making the necessary improvements to provide the affordable luxury you and your family can come to expect. We regret that your accommodation was not what you expected on this recent visit, however; we very confident that you will be pleased with the improvements that have been made if you do decide give us another chance and stay with us again in the future!

We picked this hotel for three reasons: Pool for the kids, location (close to indian canyons with view) and price. We have been really pleased with the hotel. The pool was great for the kids, they really enjoyed the slides and for the parents peace of mind there is a lifeguard on site. The pool was cleaned but it is very crowded. The hotel room met our expectations: it was CLEAN even though it is outdated, the beds were comfortable. The staff was outstanding. Every morning we left at 8am and go hike until 2pm, used the pool until 5pm and go out for dinner. It is not a hotel I would suggest you to pick if you want to stay there all day as a couple for romantic retreat. It is very crowded, the room are very noisy (can hear people walk above) but it is a great hotel for the price if you want to do what what we did and use it for the basics. I would recommend the hotel more for families.
