“Charming and private inn”
Reviewed 28 November 2011

If you like small inns with charm, privacy, tasteful and comfortable surroundings, look no further. About three short blocks off the main part of town, the Old Ranch Inn is perfectly situated so that you can leave your car, walk to dinner, and not worry about a designated driver. The two owners of the inn are delightful, helpful and full of fun stories and great advice.
I chose the room farthest from the pool in case it was particularly warm and people were outside at the pool. Our room was very spacious, with lovely touches, a comfy king bed, a kitchenette, and a living area. We had a little patio off the kitchen with a table and chairs, but you can go into the pool area for other tables as well. My sense of this place is that even though it was not warm enough for people to swim, it is more adult oriented and people staying here would tend to respect the quiet and privacy the inn affords. We'd return for sure if we ever returned to Palm Springs and recommend it as a lovely weekend getaway place.

Room Tip: corner room off the pool had a more private feeling

We spent a week at the Old Ranch Inn and were not disappointed. Ed and Larry were very helpful and friendly and our nicely appointed room had a lovely view of the swimming pool and the mountains. It was very quiet and relaxing and we thoroughly enjoyed the traffic-free street fair (recommended by Larry) on the Thursday night. Great location, close to the centre of town and to the art museum, restaurants and shops, all within walking distance. If walking the 4 blocks to Palm Canyon Drive at night, take a flashlight - there are street lamps but they aren't lit and the sidewalk is intermittent!

Room Tip: Room 8 was great

This was our first visit to Palm Springs. Our plans were just to relax and do some local exploring without having to follow a schedule. Since my wife & I prefer to avoid the larger chain resort hotels the description of "The Old Ranch Inn" sounded like exactly what we were looking for. We arrived earlier in the day than I had planned and was greeted at check-in by Larry (one of the 2 owners). He said our room was just about ready and suggested that we take a stroll down the street for a coffee or lunch. He offered us a discount coupon for one of the nearby coffee-bars and even supplied us with local pocket maps, and his own list of recommended restaurants. Upon our return to the inn, Larry walked us to our room where our luggage was awaiting us. Our suite was meticulously clean, with a kitchenette and king-sized bed with tons of pillows and a pillowy soft duvet.
Each morning Larry & Ed (the other owner) had coffee, tea, and fresh fruit set out for the guests poolside, which was a nice way to start the day and decide on whether to just lounge around the pool longer or get away somewhere for the day. Ed did a fantastic job of offering suggestions of interesting day trips once we rented a car. He even printed out detailed maps for us so we always made it back without ever getting lost.
The inn only has 8 suites, so it's easy to feel comfortable chatting with the other guests, sharing advice on where to eat, what to see, etc.
Our big mistake was to only have arranged a 4 night stay. Living is easy at the "Old Ranch Inn" so we will return again soon and now know that 4 nights is not enough!

Room Tip: There are 2 full sized one bedroom suites available which offer more space if needed.

I was looking for the perfect place to spend time with my boyfriend, and to meet up with my grown children for the Thanksgiving holiday. The Old Ranch Inn was just that place, and I hope to spend every Thanksgiving sharing with those I love in the same way for years to come. When you enter the courtyard of the Old Ranch Inn, there is a posted sign that say's "Enter as a stranger and leave as a friend" , and that is exactly the experience we shared. This is a great place to stay to relax, and experience all that Palm Springs has to offer. Thank you Larry, Ed and staff for a wonderful time that I will remember for years.

Room Tip: All the rooms are wonderful

Having stayed at the ORI a couple of years ago, after taking an ill fated train journey from LA (yes i should have taken ed & larry's reservations about this more seriously), and realising if you needed to relax after a 7 hrs shlep on amtrak there is no better place to do it than here. The desert climate has that effect on you, it's very laid back and i can understand why a lot of the stars used to come down from vegas to put their feet up, but the real relaxation is provided by the enviroment created by Ed & Larry, returning back was like meeting up with old friends, they both have so much time for everyone and provide a wealth of information not just about local stuff but lots of other california areas as well, indeed Ed convinced us to go to Catalina island whilst here, which was great. we both love california and would always consider going out of the way to come back(if fortunate enough to return) to the ORI not just because of Palm Springs but mainly to enjoy the hospitality of these two great gentleman. My wife and I stayed at the Old Ranch Inn from 10/31/11 thru 11/5/11 and had a wonderful time. Ed and Larry made us feel right at home, made some wonderful suggestions on the Palm Springs Follies and also a Thursday night street fair in downtown Palm Springs. The Inn is very close to almost anything you could want or need. We stayed in a poolside room and it was very comfortable and we used the pool a couple of times. All in all, it was a very relaxing stay...

Such a great stay! Relaxing, clean room, quiet, other guests were delightful. Really comfortable, but elegant. Also had a great dinner, as recommended by the hoteliers and a fantastic morning coffee by the pool!

Room Tip: Ask the inn keepers...They are great at judging your needs!
