“Excellent accomodation - Wonderful Hosts”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2010

Couldn't disagree with the previous comments more!!

What a wonderful find in the Old Ranch Inn. We stayed two nights in a beautifully appointed room with a small kitchenette and lovely views of the mountain and pool area. Hosts Larry and Ed have paid great attention to detail in this establishment and it shows. It is kept spotlessly clean and tidy. In easy reach of all the main facilities of Palm Springs. Couldnt have been made more welcome and couldnt have found a nicer place to stay. Our only complaint was that our itinery didnt allow us to stay longer!

Whoever could find as many faults with their stay as the last review must have been staying at a different place!!

.With our wide experience of boutique Inns accross the USA and Europe this Inn does not live up to expectations.
These are our comments on room 2, a one bedroom unit.

1/ Hard bed, incontinent pad on the mattress in the form of a rubber sheet.

2/ Dark decor, ie.sage green and mustard walls, dark velvit drapes. Dark bedroom.

3/ Corridor location, room outlook into corridor, no natural light.

4/ Noisy-Front entrance door bangs shut next to this unit by leaving and returning guests in the evening, whos conversations are heard clearly through the single glazed french doors.

5/ Rear 'private patio' as described on the Old Ranch Inn website, is no more than a 6'
wide service corridor with a dirty metal table and chairs with no padding to the seats, no view and a lingering odour of what smells like cat urine. This service corridor serves rooms 2, 3, 4 and 5.

6/ Rooms 1,3,2 and 6 are corridor outlook rooms and do not have any view.

7/ The above rooms do not have designated sun loungers at poolside. Advised by owners that any sun lounger can be used. We sat on a lounger outside a room adjacent to the pool and suffered the indignation of the guests of that room.

8/ Pool loungers are Motel 6 quality and only one pool towel per guest is suppled daily.

9/ We cannot comment on the quality of any breakfast as we were advised only that coffee would be available in the morning. We did not use this facility.

10/ The owners are very meticulous in cleanliness and tidiness, however, it is a bit strange when you go to your room for maybe 5 minutes to make a drink, only to return and find your lounger has been folded flat and your pool raft has been removed from the pool and folded neatly and placed in a bin adjacent to the office.

Our review is based on similar priced Inns of this type in locations such as Key West, Santa Fe, Santa Barbara, Beverley HIlls, Savannah, San Francisco to name but a few.

I would have liked to have given a more positive review but the ambience promised in the website was sadly lacking.

This small inn is located on a quiet, peaceful street but within close walking distance to downtown for shopping and restaurants. The owners were very friendly and helpful with suggestions for dining and activities. Morning coffee and fresh fruit were available at poolside. Nicely decorated rooms, beautifully maintained courtyard, clean and spotless. A wonderful place to stay!

All the positive feed back is true - a hidden gem. we have visited Palm Springs often and never explored the back streets - the location is great. Very quiet - no children and great western decor.
We will definatly go back

Our April vacation in Palm Springs was a dream....the Old Ranch Inn is the perfect place to stay. Two great hosts, Ed and Larry, could not be more accomodating...helpful, friendly and humorous, and they run a first--rate inn. A basket of treats greets you when you enter your room, comfortable, clean and inviting. Ed and Larry go out of their way to keep the inn in great shape, answer questions and make recommendations. Teresa is friendly and helpful and keeps the rooms neat and clean. The setting is perfect, a warm
pool with a mountain background, excellent location (can walk to just about everything).
Can not wait to return!

This is a beautiful, quaint, intimate hotel, in a great location. The owners are delightful, very helpful and the fruit and coffee in the morning are a great idea. The room was small but adequate and the place was spotless. Although everything in the hotel is quite close together, there was absolutely no noise. This is a great place if you want a peaceful, relaxing vacation.

The one thing we found annoying was that they have a plastic sheet below the bottom sheet on the bed. Although we understand that this is desirable to keep the beds hygienic, it does mean that they seemed very hot at night and we had to turn the a/c down to a lower temperature to compensate. We don't know exactly how to solve this, but a less "plastic" protector for the bed, if available, would be the perfect answer.

Having said that, we would recommend the hotel to anyone who wants to visit Palm Springs. We really enjoyed our stay.

This was our first visit to Palm Springs so we were not quite sure what type of hotel / inn to choose so we decided to rely on Tripadvisor reviews to help decide. The Old Ranch Inn turned out to be a terrific choice for our stay. It's small, intimate and very homey. The owners Larry and Ed were great hosts and extremely helpful and friendly. They offered great suggestions for restaurants and sightseeing activities including discounts and many local attractions. We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 nights at the Inn and will most certainly return the next time we visit Palm Springs. Our room was a king suite with a kitchenette and a very convenient, yet private access door to the pool area. The living area was warmly decorated and offered a comfortable king sized bed (pillows were a tad hard though). The pool area was quite pleasant -- sized just right for the property. Morning coffee was available at the pool (no pastries but there were donuts served on Sunday.) Theresa who takes care of maintaining the guest rooms was most pleasant and friendly -- as was everyone -- we felt like members of their family. We spent much of our time touring the area but were able to enjoy afternoons relaxing at the pool area---what a great peaceful setting to enjoy before heading out for dinner.

We are already looking forward to our return visit to The Old Ranch Inn.
