I was surprised at some of the bad reviews on here, and would have to say that they are more the exception than the rule. We stayed here Memorial weekend, and found the room to be perfectly acceptable in size, the bathroom was a good size, and the patio, while small, isn't something that you'd probably spend time on anyway, since the pool is outside your front door. Ed and Larry were very nice, offering good advice on restaurants, free water when it got hot, etc. There's a lot of little touches that most hotels don't offer, and I found myself trying to find things wrong, and couldn't. We stayed in one of the rooms that doesn't have lounge chairs in front of it, and just took some others that were around the pool. No big deal. In fact, we switched twice on the first day and no one cared. They have free DVDs to borrow, magazines to read, newspapers in the morning, wifi, etc. The hosts were gracious, I had no problems with the beds (in fact, we slept TOO much!), and there were plenty of little touches that I find other hotels lacking. Teresa, their ninja maid, cleaned our rooms, without us ever seeing her. If people needed an extra towel, she'd give it to them, and the kitchenette, while a little small, contained everything in it that you would ever need - including ice cubes in the freezer. My biggest complaint was that they didn't have the channels listed on the back of the remote, but that's just being REALLY picky, and shows the level that you have to go to, in order to find something wrong.

Definitely a place I'd stay at again!

Stayed with Ed and Larry for the 5th year running and I must admit you could not ask for a cleaner or friendlier place. Perfect for chilling out and avoiding the crowds of noisier resorts. Theresa does of magnificent job maintaining high standards of cleanliness and nothing is to much bother. The earlier comment regarding the 'roach', all I can guess the woman must of been having a bad hair day !!!!!

We recently stayed at Old Ranch Inn for the sixth time. Yep, the sixth time. And that's saying something, since each visit involves a nearly 6,000-mile round trip. We discovered this lovely boutique hotel just weeks after owners Larry and Ed began welcoming guests with their special brand of hospitality. We were so taken with the beauty of the place, and with our charming hosts, that we now believe there's no other place in Palm Springs for us.

Each of the suites in which we have stayed has been immaculate and beautifully appointed, and it's quite clear that guest comfort is of utmost importance to these owners. Beds are comfy, with abundant pillows and nice comforters. The kitchenettes, cozy and pretty, are more than adequately equipped for a two-person suite. Although coffee and tea are served outdoors each morning, it's nice to have a coffee maker (along with plenty of coffee and tea) in the room if you're an early bird or would like a cup of joe in the evening. And it's great to have a fridge and microwave right in the room. We always have restaurant leftovers to heat up for lunch the next day.

The pool area seems to get more and more beautiful, as new plants, trees and fountains are added. Love the jasmine! Plenty of lounge chairs for everyone, whether you're looking to sunbathe or stay cool in the shade. There are also several tables for breakfast, lunch, or even a poolside dinner.

Need an extra pool or bath towel? Soap? Shampoo? Just about anything at all? Simply ask, and it will soon appear, thoughtfully and promptly delivered by Ed, Larry or sweet Teresa. Looking for dining advice? Recommendations for fun things to do in town and elsewhere in the valley? A great deal on a spa treatment? Discount pass for the Palm Springs art museum? Dollars-off coupon for golf? Bottle of water to take on your hike? Again, simply ask.

We're seasoned and global travelers. We've tried the glitzy five-star resorts and over-the-top mega hotels. We love this place. It's intimate and quiet and lovely. We love these hosts. They are courteous, helpful, friendly and fun. We are so glad we found them!

Thanks, guys, and Teresa, for all you do to make our visits so special and memorable.

My husband and I felt the Old Ranch Inn’s web site was deceiving. Our room was awfully cramped. The so called kitchenette was way small. There was a very small sink, a even smaller refrigerator and a microwave. There were barely enough dishes and silver ware (only 2 dishes, 2 silverware and one knife, which was dull). You could not drink the tap water due to a terrible smell and taste. When we arrived in 86 degrees, the air condition was turned off despite knowing we were arriving early. The refrigerator was not even cool and we asked for the ice machine to fill our cooler. There was no ice machine. We thought our food would spoil so had to run out and buy ice. The refrig took 24 hrs to cool, but we feared our food would spoil so left it in the cooler. That evening we found a roach in our bathroom! We went to the office the next morning. When we told the manager about the roach, he got upset and barked, “Your not in a roach infected hotel, that was a palm beetle.” He became indignant and loud. My husband & I have 4 palms on our property and never heard of this palm beetle. I ended up looking it up when I returned home. Guess what, it was a roach, not a palm beetle. Palm beetles are bright orange with black spots and usually found in Spain to Egypt. The manager lied to us.

Couldn't disagree with the previous comments more!!

What a wonderful find in the Old Ranch Inn. We stayed two nights in a beautifully appointed room with a small kitchenette and lovely views of the mountain and pool area. Hosts Larry and Ed have paid great attention to detail in this establishment and it shows. It is kept spotlessly clean and tidy. In easy reach of all the main facilities of Palm Springs. Couldnt have been made more welcome and couldnt have found a nicer place to stay. Our only complaint was that our itinery didnt allow us to stay longer!

Whoever could find as many faults with their stay as the last review must have been staying at a different place!!

.With our wide experience of boutique Inns accross the USA and Europe this Inn does not live up to expectations.
These are our comments on room 2, a one bedroom unit.

1/ Hard bed, incontinent pad on the mattress in the form of a rubber sheet.

2/ Dark decor, ie.sage green and mustard walls, dark velvit drapes. Dark bedroom.

3/ Corridor location, room outlook into corridor, no natural light.

4/ Noisy-Front entrance door bangs shut next to this unit by leaving and returning guests in the evening, whos conversations are heard clearly through the single glazed french doors.

5/ Rear 'private patio' as described on the Old Ranch Inn website, is no more than a 6'
wide service corridor with a dirty metal table and chairs with no padding to the seats, no view and a lingering odour of what smells like cat urine. This service corridor serves rooms 2, 3, 4 and 5.

6/ Rooms 1,3,2 and 6 are corridor outlook rooms and do not have any view.

7/ The above rooms do not have designated sun loungers at poolside. Advised by owners that any sun lounger can be used. We sat on a lounger outside a room adjacent to the pool and suffered the indignation of the guests of that room.

8/ Pool loungers are Motel 6 quality and only one pool towel per guest is suppled daily.

9/ We cannot comment on the quality of any breakfast as we were advised only that coffee would be available in the morning. We did not use this facility.

10/ The owners are very meticulous in cleanliness and tidiness, however, it is a bit strange when you go to your room for maybe 5 minutes to make a drink, only to return and find your lounger has been folded flat and your pool raft has been removed from the pool and folded neatly and placed in a bin adjacent to the office.

Our review is based on similar priced Inns of this type in locations such as Key West, Santa Fe, Santa Barbara, Beverley HIlls, Savannah, San Francisco to name but a few.

I would have liked to have given a more positive review but the ambience promised in the website was sadly lacking.

This small inn is located on a quiet, peaceful street but within close walking distance to downtown for shopping and restaurants. The owners were very friendly and helpful with suggestions for dining and activities. Morning coffee and fresh fruit were available at poolside. Nicely decorated rooms, beautifully maintained courtyard, clean and spotless. A wonderful place to stay!
