Century Palm Springs

The new owners of The Century Hotel could not have been more welcoming. The Hotel is beautiful and has the best moutain views in Palm springs! We enjoyed every aspect of our stay from the beautiful pool and spa, to our comfy room with a great tempurpedic mattress, to the fresh and delicious breakfast and pleasant afternoon cocktail hour! This is the place to stay in Palm Springs!

This was our first stay at Century Palm Springs spending a few days between Christmas and New Year December 2012. The exterior is very nice. In a macro view the interior is nice as well with midcentury (mostly stuff from Ikea) designs. The common area is nice with large chairs and lounges.
On closer inspection the place does not hold up well. There are many flaws to the way the property is being (rather not being) maintained. There is crumbling concrete around the pool and spa. There are holes in walls (these can be easily filled with dry wall compound and painted over correctly but they don't bother with this detail). Shelves attached to the walls are not aligned or supported well. There was obviously a ceiling water leak that was poorly painted over. The tube TV was placed too low to the floor on a small stand that made watching TV from the bed difficult. It should have been placed higher on a shelf or stand. The cable for the TV came out of the wall behind a lone piece of art. It would not have been too much work to reroute the cable lower to the floor so the cable was not visible. A single towel rack in the bathroom isn’t next to or across from the shower door. You have to walk out of the shower to get to it. And the towel rack came off the wall. Put the towel rack across from the shower and mount it correctly. The host acknowledged that the room door locks didn’t work well and advised us to jiggle it a bit to get it to work. Or, they could fix the locks or get new ones.
With the exception of the striking orange, green and gray colors there is remarkably little room decor. Our room had a kitchenette. It was well stocked with dishes, flatware, pots n pans and all the things you'd need for a quick stay. The counter top looked like it belonged in a day care center with a odd design of colors and shapes. The sink drain line leaked water inside the cabinet and on the floor. Every time we turned on the water in the sink there was a burst of air. This is usually a good indication that there is water leaking in the supply line someplace.
There is no space for toiletries in the bathrooms but there is a shelf outside the bathroom that should be moved INTO the bathroom for this purpose. The fridge in our room made a constant gurgling sound (probably the defroster needs some maintenance but this isn't taken care of) that made it difficult to sleep, along with the annoyingly loud clock on the wall (that was an hour fast, probably because they didn't bother to reset it 4 weeks ago when we moved to standard time. It will be at the correct time in the spring). The Ikea chairs and table in the kitchen were very noisy on the concrete floor, because some of the plastic feet were missing. Again, a very easy thing to fix that wasn't maintained. Placing a small area rug under the table and chairs would work too.
The continental breakfast was adequate but here too a little attention to detail would have gone a long way. The jelly in the little plastic containers provided with the muffins was coagulated as if perhaps it was frozen at some point or just old.
The rooms are kept very clean by the staff and the linens, bedding, pillows and towels are very good. The pillow top mattress is much too hard, more like a futon.
There were not the usual referral cards or literature for outside services. There were plenty of menus. The staff didn't ask how our stay was going while we were there. When we checked out they didn't bother to ask then either nor did they say goodbye or Happy New Year. Overall, Century Palm Springs is below average. They could be better if they showed a little more effort in making the place look and feel like the guests are special. Generally people like to be pampered while on vacation and not have to deal with an accumulation of annoyances. Don't expect to get pampered here. We didn't get the impression Century Palm Springs is proud of the property or service.

This was actually my first stay at a gay hotel/resort in Palm Springs - and I was very impressed. This hotel is a quiet, classy mid-century motel that just happens to cater to a gay clientele. The attention to detail is impressive. The rooms are accessorized with soaps, shampoos, towels, water in the refrigerator. The lobby has a refrigerator with complimentary water and soft drinks. There are complimentary snacks. The pool and Jacuzzi are impeccable. The place is always clean and neat. The staff is very helpful with suggestions for restaurants, taxi service, etc. And at 6 pm there are complimentary cocktails. When I stayed there, the place was sold out - but still it had a secluded quiet ambiance about it.

My only minor compliant is that the DVD player built into the flat screen TV did not work.

But ......... I'll definitely be back to Century Palm Springs for a future stay!

My partner and I just returned from a nine day stay at Century PS. This was our second stay there, and if consistency can be a measure of quality, this place is fantastic. We were warmly greeted by Charlton who let us know about some of the goings on in PS since our last stay, gave us some new restaurant recommendations, and invited us to leave the chill of Chicago behind and to start relaxing. The staff, some of whom have changed since our last stay, we attentive, sweet, and unintrusive.

Again, we are looking forward to our next stay at Century! D&D Chicago

Once I discovered PS and it's crazy mid-century martini vibe - I was hooked. That big, black (when the sun passes) mountain, blue desert sky and waving palm trees coupled with avocado, orange, turquoise and yellow around town makes for a great blood pressure-lowering escape.

I discovered the nifty [naughty] Warm Sands area in my research and sought out lodging options. Having stayed at several resorts of varying quality and, well, seediness - I stumbled on this stylish spot and was thrilled. From the design to the experience - it's cocktail chill.

Charlton and his team keep the place in good order and are attentive and helpful. Love the groovy organ in the lobby - waiting for a cocktail-y, Mad Men singalong!!! Ready with recommendations, savings (sometimes they partner with folks) and my martini - in a real martini glass or towels - they offer a non-intrusive, clothing optional retreat that may have its moments - but isn't too sexually charged to be able to chill.

It is my home away from home.

A very pleasant stay at Century Palm Springs, a very relaxed atmosphere will excellent service. The staff are simply wonderful, helpful and always have a smile on their faces. The complex itself is truly amazing and generates a calm, warm and serene atmosphere. We stayed at the resort for 10 days and left very relaxed and rejuvenated. My partner is in wheelchair and the complex is fully disabled access compliant. Breakfast was vey tasteful and an excellent variety of drinks and snacks available throughout our stay. We would rate the Century a def 11 out of 10 and would highly recommend a stay. I dare anyone to go there and not have a good time.

My first visit to this hotel was a very unexpected surprise. I was looking for a gay hotel for a last minute trip and booked here based on reviews and I was truly not disappointed.

They really pay attention to detail here in service and in design of the resort. I had a basic King room and it was more than enough room for 1 person. Big comfortable bed, flat screen TV, small fridge a Kuerig coffee maker with all kinds of coffee pods as well as creamer in the fridge. (Not to mention, the safe, the shoe shine kit, the sewing kit, etc) And of course the fabulous mid century styled furniture.

The public area is a Mad Men inspired dream. A modern take on mid century and plenty of great detail for comfort. Clips on the loungers around the pool to hold your towel in place, candles lit at sunset, all in all, a very "zen" environment.

Every morning, you're handed a french press of fresh coffee and today's local paper with a continental breakfast. There is an open pantry all day long for snacks and drinks. You can also get a free pass to World Gym and The Palms Springs Art Museum.

Service was understated and friendly. I was left with the impression, that this place is working very hard to make your stay enjoyable.

At this level of service and amenities I could find little to complain about, however I will say that the bathroom in my room looked great, but design won over function here. It's a little cramped for 1 person (Not enough room on the sink for your shaving cream, razor etc) and the lighting is too dark (Lights only fit on one side of the mirror creating too much shadow, when trying to shave)

It's great to find a place that pays so much attention to detail and that seems to care about your stay. Highly recommended.
