fun place to stay in palm springs. the rooms are really cute and different, but i think i'd rather stay somewhere with more amenities (nice spa, better restaurant, etc). it's too much of a hipster haven.

We stayed at the Ace Hotel in May and had a patio room with fireplace.
Positives: gorgeous room, fab shower & nice products, great food in the diner (best veggie burger ever), wonderful location. We loved hanging out on our patio (with the fire on in the evenings), and there's a place nearby where you can go horse riding which I highly recommend. The art museum and architecture tour are definitely worth it too.
Negatives: no rug/cushions on our patio like in the picture, and we didn't get any when we asked, slow service on the terrace, the bikes don't have brakes (you have to pedal backwards). I'd also give the 'Village Fest' thing a miss - hoards of people and touristy tat on stalls.
All in all though, I'd definitely come back.

I stayed 3 nights in a fireplace suite (w/my dog). It was a very comfy bed, decent sink/fridge/in room snacks and bar. Tiny bathroom, but functional. Actually this place would be a cool apartment, if it had a kitchen.Canvas chic. There should've been a full length mirror on the bathroom door, for getting dressed for a party...It was a busy weekend - Stagecoach Festival and the hotel was full. But it was quiet and comfy on my side, near the dog patch and second pool @ 425.

I stayed at this hotel over the Coachella music festival and loved loved loved it! I saw it once before last summer and fell in love then so I had to come back and stay for real this time. It was the perfect place to stay over the festival. Various bands played during the few days, boutiques set up shop, specials were on offer in the spa - all so fantastic.
The vibe & the crowd were all so eclectic and different. The Ace is doing something so different in Palm Springs and damn do they do it well. The rooms are spacious, the staff are great and the diner is a fab place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The rooms are very affordable and such great value for money.
I heart the Ace Palm Springs and will defo be rebooking for Coachella 2012!

I like Palm Springs in the blazing summer, and so I first stayed at the Ace in August, and then again in the fall - very different demographics of guest each time, but the hotel kept its own sense of tone and space, which I appreciated. While I think the chain pushes the branding a bit too far, you can pretty much shrug off what you don't care for - the fact is, the rooms are inexpensive, well-designed, and perfectly functional. The hotel has all sorts of nice amenities: free bicycles to ride around the neighborhood, a second "quiet" swimming pool, rooms with enclosed outdoor patios, fire places outside at night. The restaurant menu is a little limited, but the breakfast is especially great, and you don't want to eat there every night anyway. The restaurant staff in particular is unfailingly nice. The bar serves a solid margarita. The hotel is well situated, with a great view of the mountains, and serves as a perfect base for PS, whether you want to dine out, hike in Joshua Tree, or simply hang by the pool.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the mountains!

We just returned from 5 days at the ACE and had an incredible time. Friends visited last year and recommended to us...and so happy that they did!
My husband and I (41) were traveling with our 10 y.o and 7 y.o; our room ( #502) was a good size with a king platform bed and two single beds with cool sail cloth drapes to use as room dividers. In addition, the room had a tiny balcony with a table, chair and a sofa. The decor is what I would call modern -surf chic. Minimalistic (no drawers) with creative storage (foot locker and s-hooks on a slatted wall served us well, in addition to the closet) The bathroom, albeit tiny, was nicely done with a rain shower head, and a very European styled glass enclosure. Outside of the bath was a double sink and bar area.
The King's Highway Diner cheerfully served a wide variety of great food ..which comes in handy when traveling with a picky 7 y.o. She loved the fish and chips. The chilis were great and the breakfast hash browns should not be missed!! Coffee is superb.
Drinks from the bar were kind of pricy, but the bartender definitely didn't cheap out when pouring the booze!
The grounds are fabulous in a very retro-Palm Springs-y way. Like an old HoJo from decades ago, with a cool remodel everything exuded simplicity...which, when vacationing, is a great mindset to have.
The staff was extremely helpful and kind. They handled everything from check in/out to offering a camera battery charger from their lost & found when I said that I'd accidentally left mine behind! They handled our bike requests...swapped out helmets and keys that didn't fit the lock...you name it, all done in the best of spirits. Given that we are on the older end of the typical hipster crowd and traveling with kids..and possibly the only people over 18 who did not have at least one tattoo, .it would've been so easy if they had treated us as lame old people who didn't deserve to be there...just the opposite. The attitude of everyone there ...staff and guests is very laid back and accepting, friendly and peaceful. If you are looking to unwind and are not uptight, this is ideal for you. If you are uncomfortable around open display of affection between same sex couples, this probably would not be a good place to stay...but then again, Palm Springs would probably be out of the question.
I understand that there is a really good turnout at the Amigo bar at nights...but , didn't get to check that out myself:) And, although there were tons of people and happenings until late into the night...I didn't hear any noise. Our room faced the main road and even that was pretty quiet most of the time.
Also on the grounds you'll find lounging areas in front of gorgeous outdoor fireplaces. The pool area can get a bit crowded and at times hard to find a chaise; there is another shallow pool that we didn't go to, which I understand gets less crowded. We were fine and even during the height of spring break, found a place to hunker down and relax.
Definitely go and Enjoy!
We enjoyed dinners at King's Highway, Davey's Hideaway and Rubies; Took a great horseback ride/tour to the Andreas Canyon; Definitely hike around the Palm Canyon (incredible palm tree oasis and waterfalls)

We have visited twice before this is our final stay. Scratchy towels, too noisy and the workers scream at each other early in the morning. The one towel policy at the pool was the final straw. I just needed another one for my hair. But no, only one per person. Done.
