While planning a trip to California, my family used a groupon to make reservations for the Riveria. We had never stayed there before. The entire experience was outstanding. My first impression was the first surprise. The day we checked in we had spent in Idyllwild, hiking to Tahquitz Peak (total of 9 + miles). It was hot, we were hot, and grimy. Pulled into the Riveria and I was apprehensive as I saw the glitz and valets. They seemed to know right away that we wanted to park our own vehicle, and it was not awkward at all. The staff was welcoming and friendly, every day. The two pools were just the right way to relax, and the lounge is something to experience at night. We spent two nights there. The rooms were clean, quiet and comfortable. I can't wait to go back there again. Decompressing around the pool was just what the doctor ordered for us! :-)

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the pool for a quieter experience.

We enjoyed this resort very much. The staff (especially the concierge) was friendly, enthusiastic, and polite...oh, and very helpful. If it weren't for the concierge, we would not have had as much fun as we had. He suggested Elite Land Tours which turned out to be a highlight. The restaurant at the hotel is wonderful with excellent food. The servers are professional and care about the guests. Our room was perfect - right size, comfortable beds, clean, and easy to get to. It is a big resort. It also has fascinating history too since the "rat pack" (Frank Sinatra and gang) used to perform here. I would sum it up with old Hollywood charm meets modern day ammenities. Great pool too!

Wife decided to meet a friend in Palm Springs for the weekend in late July. She paid close to 260 dollars for a room in off-season. The same day we arrived they were advertising rooms for $220 and could care less when my wife let them know about the price difference. We parked in the valet and at the check in found out it was a 20 dollar per night fee for valet. I could see my car from my hotel room, it was parked outside in the heat and in the self parking area. It is rather insulting in a desert area with massive amounts of parking and space to charge 20 dollars for valet. Then they charge a resort fee of 25 dollars a night to use the pool and "spa". So basically our room was now a total of 310 for the night at a converted holiday inn or motel of some kind in the off season in the desert. Now once we were charged what the ritz in laguna charges per night, we had to walk through 4 buildings just to get to our room. The hotel is a massive motel layout, so be prepared to walk in the heat to get to your room, through a smoking corridor and by 20 somethings who can barely stand up let alone open the door for your wife carrying two bags.

Now, imagine paying 25 dollars a day to use the pool and at 10:30 in the morning after breakfast, my wife and I cannot get a lounge chair on a Saturday in the main pool. We had friends in town and the girl at the front desk told us we would have to pay an extra 25 per person if they want to come use the lounges and get a wrist band. Here is advice for the management, people who spend 300 dollars on a room don't want to wear wristbands and get charged money to have friends come visit. Extremely tacky... Yes crap techno music is blaring, overpriced drinks are being served and they try really hard to make this vegas (...it is not vegas).

The room was large with a nice balcony in the corner, but the balcony was shared! Great privacy when you are in your hotel room when you can see a stranger sitting on the balcony while you and your wife are getting ready. I could go on and on and I am not one that likes to complain. Longer story shorter, don't waste your money.

So many better hotels in this area and if you care for my advice look into the boutique hotels off Palm Canyon instead. Place should have been 125 dollars a night, don't be fooled by the "modern" re-design of the place. To end on a positive note though, the staff around the hotel was very friendly.

Room Tip: Tell them you don't want to walk 500 yards to your room if you have to stay here.

My husband and I stayed here last Sunday night, from a ZOZI getaway we had purchased. We both loved it. The decor in the hotel is absolutely stunning. From the carpets to the chandeliers to the mirrors on the walls, and that was just walking to our room! Inside the bedspread and pillows were awesomely decorated. The bar at the pool was fun, the staff was polite and we never went without a drink while laying out at the pool. Also, finding a chair to lay in wasn't bad either. The restaurant was nice, and the food was really good!!! And our waitor was very into descibing the food which was fun. The only negative I'd say, was that the main pool was filthy. We got in it, and there was debris, hair, and sand all over the place. We actually ended up loading up on drinks from the pool and walking over to the secondary (and smaller) pool and giong in that pool because it was actually clean. Other than that experience, we really enjoyed ourselves and would love to stay here again. Just hope the pool is clean next time. :)

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and discovered the unique decor that surrounds this resort. However, your comment on our main pool, I have our engineering and maintenance departments reviewing the pool conditions after heavy weekend use, this is unacceptable, and apologize for its condition.Again thank you for taking the time to share your comments. We look forward to your return.

just like any other place in the world you have to know what you want. the grounds are stunning and the rooms are nice, buuuuut some room are amazing and some are just nice. I got a suite that had it's own jacuzzi and backyard attached that lead out to the main pool. it was phenomenal. we had guests, we drank and laid by the pool then ofter house we moved back to out suite and had a night cap. if you want luxury, get a suite. if you just wand a nice room get a basic room. and there's a big difference. there is definately better value out there but this is fairly new and trendy.

We stayed here for one night and encountered several issues.
1) We arrive at 4pm check-in time. They tell us that is incorrect, our room is not ready it is being cleaned. We should wait for them to call us when its ready.
2) They gave us wrong directions to the parking lot. (asking us to go in the direction of the exit. No wonder the lift gate never opened!) We had to drive back around to ask the valet employees for correct directions.
3) Over an hour later we call them for a status update. It was an hour and a half later we got a room. Not pool view as we had been told.
4) The toilet had vomit stained running down the front. The carpet under the bed and TV was dirty. They missed sunflower seed shells. YUCK! worst of all the shower curtain had green phlegm spit on the inside.
5) Housekeeping never showed up, we had to walk to the lobby to find the manager to inform them of the condition of the room.
6) There were not clean towels in the pool area when we wanted/ needed them. We were told it was because the laundry room was backed up.
7) During check-out the next day there was a discrepancy with a charge that we had paid in cash at the restaurant. They charged us while they had to "investigate". We finally received a call back about 4 hours later.

In the end we did receive an upgrade of our room (which also wasn't all that clean, the couch and ottoman had stains on it) and a credit for breakfast from a nice manager named Fifi, but it wasn't worth all the trouble and discomfort we had to go through. I had very high expectations for this place in the end I got nothing but regrets. I would not go back.

I visited the Riviera last week for a corporate training arriving on Monday and departing on Thursday. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout my stay. Service the moment I arrived on property was fantastic from the front desk, to housekeeping, to banquet services. The room was beautiful and clean. Banquet space was modern and luxurious. Food service from the bar to the restaurant was awesome and banquet services were fantastic with creative offerings throughout the training. I would like to give props to the cocktail server in the bar, Angelina or Angelic, she remembered us every night we came in and provided excellent service!

I had read the reviews of the property prior to my stay and was truly surprised by how different the property is in real life. Although I hear it is the place to be on the weekends during the week it was calm and relaxing.

I love the style of the property and look forward to returning again with my hubby for a little getaway!
