Bad experience here on Fri, Oct 18th!!...Ok, in all fairness, the food & sangria were really good but Horrible, Horrible service!!!...Had to ask for water twice...The waiter brought us silverware & empty water glasses when we sat down to our outside table but never brought water...When he came to take our order 15 min later, we asked him for some water...When he brought our food after another 20 min & still no water, we asked him a second time if we could please get some water!....Also asked him for a ramekin of remoulade sauce for my crab cakes which finally showed up 15 min later....After that, our waiter was nonexistent...I finally went into the restaurant & trying to tract down our waiter & asked the manager (think it was Alan?) if he could get us our check so we could cash out!...Told him about the problems...he seemed very surprised almost to the point of disbelief...He offered an unsincere apology & asked if we had dessert...We certainly weren't looking for freebies & at that point was quite disgusted & just wanted to leave!!!...Staying at the Four Seasons & the staff there highly recommended this spot....They have been right on the money with their recommendations up until this point...Let them know about the problems & our experience as well...Again, the food was good but the horrible service made this a really, really bad experience!!...Would NOT recommend!!!

Fantastic night of tapas with my business colleagues. With 8 of us wanting different things, and a few folks with dietary restrictions/preferences, we got a variety of apps with a few orders of paella and it was perfect. We got a taste of everything without over indulging. Don't miss the tuna tartare, yucca fries, chorizo corndogs (so I heard, I don't eat pork, but others raved) and cheese plate - the wild mushroom paella was also fantastic. Finally, do not leave without SHARING the Fried Oreos or the bourbon ice cream! The atmosphere was great and a very helpful server topped the night. A little loud, but that's to be expected at a Palo Alto favorite.

Joya is conveniently located 4 blocks off the Stanford campus. They have limited outdoor seating. The interior is friendly, attractive and sharp. Service is attentive but not fussy. The food can be a hit or miss proposition. On this occasion the appetizer was chicken tacos and were very nice. The Joya salad had fresh greens but little to enhance its interest. The main course was a salmon, which was fresh and cooked appropriately, but again nothing to make it special.

I have been here many times and this visit was typical. Nothing is bad, but nothing is fantastic.

Four of us ordered, shared several dishes and at least tasted all at this South American restaurant. Began with the yucca fries which were bland in themselves but just right with the chipotle aioli. Also ordered the guacamole which was good in itself and even more fun with the unusual variety of chips. Then we moved to crab cakes, kobe beef sliders, and empanadas off the starter section. The empanadas were surprisingly rich with a large filling. Again the sauces were the best part of the crab cakes and empanadas. From the entrees the sea bass and pork loin were very generous portions and very fresh. Dessert was the shared churros with chocolate dipping sauce. The chocoholic in the group spooned out every bit of the sauce. My favorite part of the meal was actually my drink, the Effen Son of a Cucumber, tasty and refreshing. Service was not speedy but our server was quite professional and helpful.

Went with a big group (about 13 people) and had a long table. We had the server choose the tapas appetizers and since it was a rectangular table it was difficult to share (a round or square table would have been better). We shared a few paellas for entree and it was overcooked (the mussels were terribly dry). I was too full then to care that much. There were lots of choices on the menu. The service was excellent - and given that we were a group this might have been a challenge - but no complaints here. Very loud and noisy restaurant. Parking can be a challenge as there are a lot of stores and restaurants in the area. There is public parking around the corner but it fills up quickly.
