“They really get it”

This is an amazing hotel that provides a real boutique experience in terms of size, personal attention and services. I was afraid the staff could not live up to the level of service they provided during my first stay but they did not let me down. They already knew which morning paper I preferred as well as my preference for a courtyard room but they took time to double check these details as I checked in just to be sure. The rooms all seem to have balconies and the amount of light that comes in is so great. The decor is very nice-warmly modern and plush. The bathrooms are all done in beautiful marble (squeaky clean!) and they provide a nice quality of amenities-not just the typical items in most hotels. To give you an idea: two types of robes in the rooms are provided plus slippers, in addition to shampoo conditioner, etc. the other amenities include a very neat travel toothbrush holder and a little bottle of air spritzer that is divine. I received a personal note with a little bag of chocolates at turn down and every single employee said hello to me as I came and went-genuinely friendly feeling One night there was a reception going on in the lobby and I was able to enjoy some wine and appetizers. It was really nice to mingle with the other guests and meet some of the hotel staff before I went up to my room (with another glass of wine!) Great location, easy parking and very comfortable. Can't wait to get back to Palo Alto.

We stayed here for 10 nights with a couple of short breaks to Carmel and Las Vegas in between.
Was a wonderful feeling after each short break arriving back to Garden Court, like arriving home. We were given the same room on each return. It was just so comfortable, a little noise from the functions in the courtyard but it didnt bother us as I found it quite interesting to see the different set ups for the various functions. The doormen were wonderful . The front desk staff were ok with the exception of Gavin who was very good and helpful
Hope to stay again next year when we visit quite pricey but so convienient.

I loved the room. Unlike most hotel rooms there was huge amounts of drawer and closet storage. The bathroom had a lovely large marble shower. A couch and big screen TV rounded out the room. It may have been a small room, but everything fit wonderfully and it really worked well.

The only downside is that when you opened the bathroom door wide, you hit the thermostat and turned up the heat. So be careful. :-)

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the atrium restaurant can be noisy.

I love this hotel. Great location, excellent customer service. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Room service was quick. Neat little shops all over downtown makes this hotel rates worth it. Nice and very spacious suites with patios overlooking downtown. Updated amenities...even the bathroom is top-notch. I rate this hotel a 5! Love it!!

Room Tip: Get a suite, you will not be disappointed.

Lovely hotel nestled off of the main street. Attention to detail throughout. No restaurant on property but so close to many wonderful places to eat. This is a small boutique hotel for those looking for something different.

We arrived after several days of enduring a rather basic vacation rental apartment in grotty downtown Berkeley. We were able to check in early and found ourselves were thrilled with the luxury here. Location, hotel, deluxe room with king bed and a balcony with courtyard view. Cost: $325 (inclusive) for the room, quoted at $289+.

The small balcony had a metal table and 2 matching chairs where we spent quite a bit of time looking down at the awning of the courtyard part of the hotel restaurant and listening to the raucous wedding celebrations that were held over the weekend.

Our bedroom was furnished nicely, with good bedside tables, a large flat screen TV, 4 table lamps with decent strength bulbs (one near each corner of the room), a desk with some complimentary fruit and a chair, a small elegant sofa, an armchair and roomy wardrobes as well as the usual minibar.

Although the bathroom wasn't large it didn't feel squashed. The walk-in shower had two heads, a fixed ceiling one and one with a long tube - with a shower seat it would have been perfect. Great towels and towelling robes well as good quality, crisp bed linens and lots of toiletries. Comfortable bed.

Everything was stylish, plush and attractive. Great care and thoughtfulness clearly has gone into this hotel. There is room service, daily cleaning, and a nice lounge by the check-in which is one floor above ground level, where the large restaurant takes up most of the space, including the courtyard.

It's a lovely small hotel and if we had to complain about anything it would be the flat pillows. A n umbrella was considerately left on the upper shelf of one wardrobe and alternative pillows could easily be left up there too.

Also, we often complain about suitcase arrangements in hotel rooms. Two guests often arrive with 2 large and 2 small cases but when you get to the room, however nice, you find just one suitcase stand! How weird is that? Not here!

We travel quite a lot. One thing we rarely see in any hotel but loved here were adequate arrangements for all our 4 suitcases to be laid out flat and left open, without getting in the way and without having to bend down to the floor, which is not that easy for one of us. Fantastic. (But really it should be standard, not something to rave about, shouldn't it?)

From 6-8.45am a complimentary "breakfast" is laid out near the elevator: coffee and a choice of tea bags plus pastries, all good quality. Full breakfast is extra (about $20) starting from 8am and going on through brunch but the hotel is downtown, in the middle of dozens of cafés and restaurants if you prefer to try elsewhere.

However, after we arrived we explored the surrounding blocks, trying out several cafés within a 10 minute stroll, and were not impressed. The one where reviewers raved about the hot chocolate? Well, reader, it turned out to be chocolate coloured and thickened with something, but with very little chocolate taste. We couldn't finish it. That nearby bakery had no breads, just disappointing pastries, and a few decades ago would have been classed as a hippy joint. And so on.. We did not regret splashing out on the hotel breakfast.

We also loved Palo Alto itself, a gracious and attractive town with loads of shopping, even an IKEA, within 10 minutes' drive. Coming from downtown Berkeley, which we found to be almost a ghetto apart from the lovely university, it was a very welcome change.

Valet parking using the hotel's car park costs $21 per day but there is a public car park opposite with three hours free parking until 5pm after which it is free until 8am on the next working day. There is ample free limited parking around the town centre, either 2 or 3 hours until 5pm etc. The hotel valets here are particularly welcoming and helpful.

As good as most 5* hotels we've stayed at - the lack of gym, pool, spa, function rooms and the like did not reduce our opinion in any way. Everything we value was here in abundance.

Room Tip: We loved our deluxe room with king bed and courtyard view

I stayed here for 2 weeks earlier this year and I hate to disclose how great the hotel is, as there may never be availability again. The hotel is very boutique-oriented, with a great staff and every need taken care of.. They have wine in the afternoons, a great gym, and the hotel of the location is remarkable. I have stayed at virtually every hotel in Palo Alto many times but the Garden Court has proven to be my favorite and it is not that close of a contest. Remommended for special events, business travel and a sublime visit to Silcon Valley or Stanford.
