“Honeymoon suite - a beautiful stay”
Reviewed 13 July 2010

We stayed in a suite for our wedding night. The room and surroundings were beautiful. The bed was large and comfy, the furnishings beautiful, the service professional. We loved the doubled-headed shower (actually four heads, two on each side).

Some people have commented that you can hear the train noise at all hours. We heard nothing in our suite so I guess it depends on location within the hotel.

The hotel is co-owned with the Sheraton next door, and guests can use it's facilities and even charge to your Westin room - a nice touch because the Sheraton has a nicer pool and poolside restaurant.

Three small negatives - the layout is a warren of hallways and you might need a Sherpa to find the lobby. Also, be aware that the areas outside your window on the first floor can be walked right up to from outside, and when you reach your room the blinds might not be drawn. You should make sure that you draw all the blinds at night. Finally, parking is about $15/day, which is unusual in this area as most hotels provide free parking.

We stayed here the day after the one of the biggest holidays - 4th of July. It seemed everyone had just left, and we had the place to ourselves. The property is located right across Stanford University, so it’s a great place to stay if you want to check out the campus. There are also a couple of restaurants that are walking distance from the hotel, however you would have to drive about 10 minutes to get to downtown Palo Alto where there are plenty to choose from. The staff and front desk was very professional and courteous - thanks Andrea! The Heavenly beds were still one of the best reasons to stay at a Westin! I had one of the best sleeps I had during our entire trip. You do pay for parking - $10 for 24 hours, however the basement parking is easily accessible. The pool is a little small, but the hot tub is worth it. We would stay hear again!

My wife and two of our children traveled to Palo Alto California in June, to see our daughter start her summer in the Stanford High School Summer College Program. We had never been to Palo Alto before, so when I made reservations, I went with the Westin because of past experiences having been good at others in the States and in several countries visited for business. Neither my family nor I was disappointed with my decision as both the staff and the accomodations of the Westin Palo Alto exceeded all of our expectations.
The people were all exactly what you hope when you plan your stay. Everyone we had occasion to encounter was genuine, helpful, friendly, cheerfully pleasant, and always accomodating and professional. From the Reservations Manager Jaime Moreno's acceptance of boxes of our daughter's personal items she hoped to have in her dorm room over the summer that we mailed to the hotel before our arrival, to the cordial follow-up email from the hotel GM Tanya Fleming thanking us for our stay, from our cheerful greeting at the check-in desk by a helpful Julian, to the excellent service and conversation of our Peruvian waiter Enzio at the hotel's expensive, but unpretenious restaurant Soleil, from the valet parking attendant's runs to retrieve our car to the Hotel Services Manager helping us load it up when we departed for the San Francisco airport, we could not have been more pleased with the personal services provided us before, during, and after our stay at the Westin Palo Alto.
When coupled with the more than just comfortable "Heavenly" beds, the well-appointed bathrooms with separate shower and tub, the two-tiered work desks, the flat-screen HD TV's, the fully-stocked mini-bars, some local Napa Valley wines, and the spacious living space, the value of the experience provided us by the Westin Palo Alto ranks it among a small group of hotels we will frequent exclusively when we travel.

I had lost my Dad on March 5 and was long over due for R & R. Felt totally relaxed from the time of my arrival to saying goodbye. It is always appreciated to be able to check in early, especially after a 5 1/2 hour flight, plus time zone changes. From the time I left to head to the airport in Toronto to my arrival at the hotel was almost 10 hours, with waiting time at the airport for security, customs and immigration. To be able to relax in a clean room, where the temperature was comfortable makes a big difference.to the way a person feels. My room #201 was just perfect, a corner room, tucked away from the commotion of Stanford Grad Parties. I enjoyed the three balconies.
The shopping at Stanford Mall, I gained thirty pounds of clothing, need I say more? Did have a chance to take the Cal-Train from the End at San Francisco to the very convenient stop behind the hotel - that was really nice. Worth taking, just to sit back and see the scenery. University Avenue also was fun to check out.

I stayed there for business reasons and looked from my room to a construction site. Also, nearby trains were sounding their horns regularly which made the stay not so pleasant. the layout of the hotel is a bit unusual so that you have to walk long ways to get to your room. But the rooms were clean and spacious.

Dear carpenoctemBerlin,
Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that your stay was not perfect in every regard, as this is our ultimate goal. Please feel free to contact me directly as I would appreciate the opportunity to make amends. We have a few rooms overlooking the construction and are pleased that the noise has decreased in recent weeks as the project progresses. We anticipate when the building is soon completed; having a structure there once again will minimize any noise from the nearby Caltrain. I look forward to hopefully hearing from you and we hope to serve you again.
Warmest Regards,
Tanya

We chose The Westin as our "mini-honeymoon" location because we only had 2 days left before going back to Hawaii. On our way to the hotel from the other side of the Bay Area, I called to inform them that we were going to be an hour late because of traffic. I let them know over the phone that it we got married and was wondering if they were able to do anything special.
Check-in was very quick and we were informed that we were upgraded to a suite free of charge and that a fresh fruit basket would be sent to our room. Awesome! It was so nice of them. The fruit was great.
The suite was amazing. Spacious and neat. The bed and shower were excellent as expected. Towels and bathrobes were great.
A couple hours after we checked out, we realized that we left something in the room. My husband drove back to the hotel and the front desk kindly gave him the room key and he went in and found what we forgot. Great service.

My only complaint was that there were 2 times when someone attempted to enter our room without our consent. First time was housekeeping a couple hours after we checked in (We didn't call for them, why would they come... the room shouldn't require more housekeeping after checking in, it should be ready). Second time, the person keyed in and tried to open the door; we weren't aware of who it was because we had the "flap lock" (you can open the door, but only a crack). It was a bit alarming and confusing. It would have been nice if they would call in advance alerting us of their arrival and their purpose. We could have had the "Do Not Disturb" sign displayed, but we didn't see it in the room or on the door.

Other than those 2 small instances, our stay at The Westin was wonderful and exceeded our expectations. The Westin is our top choice and we will continue to book stays here and in other Starwood hotels when the opportunity arises.

Dear hsuwimmer,
Thank you for spending part of your honeymoon with us and for your review. I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay and have addressed the area of concern of the lack of a Do Not Disturb Sign for that room. It is true that hotel associates might access the room twice per day in order to refill the mini bar and to provide turndown service. I am very sorry for the inconvenience to you, please rest assured it has been addressed.
Warmest Regards and congratulations on your recent nuptuals,
Tanya
