Being Chinese and growing up in Palo Alto area meant authentic Chinese food only at Mom's; "Chinese" restaurants catering to caucasian taste buds. So hearing about this place, founded by the famous Pang family of Campbell's Fung Lum fame in addition to the name being that of a celebrated Hong Kong (before China) restaurant we were intrigued. Obviously it's catering to the wealthier, westernized palate so I guess you could call it fusion. Regardless, it was all quite tasty, if a bit pricy. However, you get to sit in a sleek, pleasant room attended by attentive servers. Lunch is reasonably priced and reasonably filling, especiallyif you add an entree for all to share, such as the amazing ribs. The chef, named Gordon, is classically trained in Chinese cooking so he possesses a balanced hand in seasonings and sauces, so you don't end up fishing your food out of pools of sweet/salty goop, like you do at that psedo-Chinese "P.F" joint across the shopping center. BTW, sorry to hear someone felt neglected by the staff. Our pleasant lady server not only recognized us from our sole previous visit, afterwards she darted outside just to help us take a family photo; thank you for the kindness!

We weren't sure what to expect when we first read the menu, but since all the other restaurants had long waits, we decided to try before our toddler threw a fit because of hunger.
Food turned out to be delicious. We had the duck garlic noodle, Singaporean noodle & scallop salad - all very good.
The service, however, was a little odd. The salad came last. I had to ask twice. I wondered maybe they served food the way they do in china because that's where the restaurant originated from. Even the attitude of the servers reminded me of the typical "avoid eye-contact" Chinese way. I hope it was just a temporary glitch because it is not cheap.

One of the areas that we like to frequent is the Stanford Shopping Center. On a recent sunny afternoon we decided to try a new restaurant and were pleasantly surprised. We were drawn in by the decor, but even more by the delicious dishes that were being enjoyed by the diners on the patio. We were greeted warmly and immediately seated in the covered patio area where we could enjoy our meal and do a little people watching at the same time.

We took advantage of the very reasonably priced lunch menu and ordered several items. They were well presented and exceptionally flavored. The cuisine is Asian fusion and very well prepared. We especially enjoyed the balance of flavors in each dish – delicately flavored but quite tasty. We’ve tried everything from chow mein to samosas.

The décor is modern with dark woods and warm fabrics. The bar is at the front of the restaurant and does not interfere with the dining experience. It is also a family-friendly restaurant.

Since then we have visited on several occasions and been pleased each time. We have even taken friends who have been pleased as well. Our experience is solely based on afternoon dining, but look forward to having an evening meal in the near future.

Nice place conveniently located at the Shopping center. However, the food is only average and the service is very poor. As we walked in we were confronted with a manager that was good at rudely giving orders to the other waiters but simply ignored us as we were walking in the restaurant needing some help to open the door (we had a baby stroller); we sat in the bar but we were ignored for a good 10 minutes, when we politely asked for a menu the bar tender he abruptly responded with "just a second", he then went on to chat with another waiter and loudly cursed about the amount of work he had..., Finally our food arrived and it was only average, definitely overpriced. Any other restaurant in the shopping center is better (including McDonald's)

The last two times the service was sooooo bad. They were going thru some transitions with manager and employees, but that's no excuse. The food was great the first 2 times, but started to get inconsistent. Tethered with really bad service (still nice, not rude or anything) and we just stopped going. Every time I pass the place it looks empty while other places are full. To be fair, the style of restaurant is very different than what's around them. This is a very pricey place and they are surrounded by The Melt, Cal Pizza Kit and the like. Why in a mall, even if it is Stanford. So many wealthy Asian/Asian-Americans I guess. I hope they have their stuff together cause when it was good, it was GOOD!
